That looks just great Jamband. I too have been curiously watching what ya'll come up with, been fun.
The clear coat is possibly laquer especially if it is sprayed on. Pretty durable and feels great to the touch. It dries quickly which would also help speed up the process getting them to market. Just a guess but this may be what is used.

I wanted to play with the skins some more, so I put the black zebra stripes on one of my white 510 batteries, and the left overs on one of the attys. the vinyl stripes feel much smoother to the touch than the metalic. Just passing some time while I wait for Kirk to prep the beer bottles, we are getting home brew ready for my birthday party next Sat. :D

Hey gang, I hate to be the one with bad news but it does not appear that the skins may be doable at all. The LPV2s are not consistent in length and button placement. Without it being exact there is no way to precut the hole and have it work and be easy for the user to put on.

Today is catch up Friday for us as we once again are behind on orders and have to have everything caught up and out the door by 2pm tomorrow. Then tonight is my once a month girls pokeno night. So I'm not going to be able to give this any real thought until Saturday night or Sunday. If I'm not around you know why.

I'm still waiting to hear back from Isaac, so if you can not produce the vinyl WW, don't fret, all is not lost. I have the feeling that maybe they wanted to apply these then sell them, unless I misunderstood something, which is very possible. If that is the case, I am coming up with some really cool stuff for them to work with. Let's hold out until I hear from Isaac about my ideas, and see where it goes.

WW, those are just mock-ups (though some have been made and quite a few others are "in the works"). If you want a Chiana Chuck it can be done (and no, there's no taper to the chucks). Though I wouldn't feel right letting someone re-use that exact image without asking them first. Of course it could be done with a slightly different design/coloration and then I'd feel comfortable.

Thanks Mike, I was only kidding though. I am a Farscape fan and really like Chiana, I just don't have a need for a Chuck. I'm extremely happy with the Chameleon and the LPVs so I'm set as far as devices go :)

Well the idea was to make a plain vinyl cover that was simple, inexpensive and easy for the user to put on themselves to merely change the color of their LPV. It doesn't seem my idea is going to be as simple as originally thought and is too plain for what some want. Since you have far better ideas, have found a superior product and have the means and knowledge to make it all happen, I will just bow out and let you take over. Thank you for saving me from fretting.

I hope you don't feel I am stepping on your toes WW. I know you were the mastermind behind getting this started. I just ended up doing some of my own investigation and found some other possible solutions. It would be great if they could be pre-cut for home use, which might still be possible with a little instruction included. I didn't have a pre-cut hole and the vinyl you sent me was not exact size, but I still got it to work with little effort. I imagine if we can iron out a few more kinks in the idea it would still be doable. Let's see where this keeps going. I realize you are very busy, and I hope you don't feel you are being pushed out, it was not at all my intention. I really appreciate your efforts and ideas.

I hope Isaac returns soon so we can get some answers about where this is going. I am actually really excited about finding some of the holographic vinyl because I am planning to use it as a new art medium. I used to paint, and like to build graphic art, and got into a bit of a creative "hole" and finding this vinyl just opened up a new level of creative ideas for me, something new to work with. I am having visions of mosaic designs using the vinyl instead of painting... it's just the kick start I needed to get my engine going again. So for what it's worth, even if the skins don't work out, I am excited to have this come up for so many other reasons.

Don't get me wrong, I was not suggesting you get a different product! But if the vinyl/???? can be figured out for the LPVs and/or Chameleon you could have a Chiana LPV/Chameleon!

That's the goal (as I understand it), to figure out a way to make our PVs different (maybe even customizable?).

I'm starting to think at the first level, it might be best to make them pre-wrapped, and you get to choose from a limited selection of styles. That would take the place of painting them, and he could have a specific selection to simplify things until it gets off the ground. I did notice that my second LPV2 is longer than the first one I got, so if they were able to make them all exactly the same size, DIY skins could be created for them. I had the idea of making it with a button hole cut, but the top and bottom edges are a little long, so all they would have to do is apply and then trim the ends with a razor, it's super easy and takes only a few seconds to do once you get the vinyl on. So the user would still have to do a small amount of work to make it fit, but it would be minimal, and easy.

Don't give up the dream!!!!

Hell, I've done nothing but "think out loud" here, you've done most of the work! I'm too lazy to do any actual work, I leave that to you! :D

The more minds we have working on the project the more viewpoints we have! As long as we all have a common goal, I say the more the merrier! Which means... YOU CAN'T BOW OUT! Ultimately, it may be determined that one idea works better than another but that doesn't invalidate the others! There's value in the elimination of ideas so that we're sure the final process is indeed the best! Besides, some of the best ideas come from some of the strangest places (not that you're strange... well... maybe a little, but that's why we love you! :D )

As time allows, I say keep on thinking/trying. This problem can and WILL be licked! So keep your tongue out! :p
