The op is right. No if ands or buts about it. Sure you can knock down the price considerably with DIY but you guys are leaving out all the hardware. Even if you buy all Chinese stuff. You are still looking at $100 or so for a setup that will give you a worth while vape experience. I vaped ego style and bought the cheapest juice I could find and I was still spending around $40-$50 a month on juice and coils. I was smoking on average a carton of Marlboro's a week before; so yeah, it was cheaper but then I was replacing tanks and batteries every few months. $15 here, $20 there... Then I was introduced to subohm vaping and have now spent upwards of $500 just on my two mods, ohm meter, RTA and RDA. i have also now started buying some more expensive juices... It's no longer "cheap" and I can feel it in my wallet.
Maybe, but I believe you may be comparing oranges and apples.
Of course it cannot be "cheap" if you buy more expensive juices. But if you do it, then you should compare your vaping expenses with someone buying premium tobacco as well. RYO tobacco expenses should be compared to DIY vaping expenses, to keep things at the same level.
Other people will tell me "Oh, I have spent a boatload of money on all the newest devices I could find... I have bought a dozen mecs already... It's NOT cheaper than smoking..."
Well. It is. Did you used to collect expensive pipes when you used to smoke? No? Then it's not the same thing. Because if you DID collect them, then smoking would be very expensive as well. As far as hardware is concerned, how many lighters and pipes do you need to simply smoke? One of each. To simply vape, without collecting stuff, you would only need ONE battery, ONE mod, ONE charger and ONE tank. See if that's not cheaper than smoking.
I could have been spending around 160 Euros/month. I am spending around 40 with vaping.
Sure, because of the new TPD, I have bought a lot more lately than I used to, just to stock up. I have bought mechs and regulated boxes. I have bought several identical Kayfuns, Goblins and Goliaths for spare parts. But I know some things:
- Those things will last for quite some time. Their initial cost will be diluted on the next several months, if not even years
- I cannot compare that initial investment with "normal", "everyday" vaping expenses
- And, most important: What I have saved in the last six and an half years is around (160-40) * 12 * 6.5 or 9360 Eur. That's stil way tooooo much than what I have already spent with vaping - even with my latest "shopping frenzies"
