Vape Rev store was quite a treat. They mean serious business when it comes to vaping. Really nice place. When you walk in, a greeter takes your name and asks what you're in for (ie juice, mod, RBA,) and you wait in the very comfortable lounge. They called me to sit at the juice bar and I had 1-on-1 time with one of their specialists. Every employee there was sporting a Chi You Mod. My dude let me try his. I covet this mod like no other. I tried a ton of juices and asked a bunch of questions. I ended up buying 2 juices which are only sold at their location or their online shop (which went live today). Most of their juice selection is from local suppliers. I bought Ben Johnson's Awesome Sauce "Snickelfritz" which is naturally extracted kiwi/watermelon. To say the flavor is authentic is an understatement. And another juice I bought was a flavored NET from Midas called "Spiced Winter Nut". Delish. I gave some Gandalf to the guys to try. Their eyes lit up when I mentioned it because they had heard of it but haven't tried. The guy I was dealing with had a look of surprise when he tasted it. "This is good...this is reeeaal good". He pulled one of the other "bartenders" over to try it. It got the same response. The prices are stupid expensive, but I've seen worse prices at local B&M. I really just want a Chi You, but this Ben Johnson's Sauce is something I could buy in bulk. They have all kinds of high-end mods and devices on display. Did I mention I wanted a Chi You?

Glad you enjoyed it X. So Ben Johnson is not to be confused with Doc Johnson?

Do we really need anything called Doc Johnson Juice?

Nor is he Ben Johnson the old western movie actor, or Ben Johnson the Olympic gold medalist sprinter. Ben Johnson the juice maker is some dude who lives here in SoCal and makes some rather outstanding juice. Ben was actually in the shop giving a tutorial on genesis building to a few onlookers. Seems like a nice guy. Another juice I should mention is one called Jameson's Irish Vapor Juice. I think he has only four flavors. All of his ingredients are extracted by the maker (Jameson is his son). None use any sweetener. I tried them. One was an apple/kafir lime flavor that was so spot on it had me grinning.

That sounds like quite the experience. Actually sounds quite fun. The last time I was at the local cape joint here I went in asking for a carto punch and they looked at me funny. I think they were more noob then I. Maybe I could get a part time gig up there and school em. Haha.

I would love to check out a place like that. Glad you enjoyed it. And I have heard that juice is good.

So would u say it's worth it even though it's overpriced? I was checking out the site earlier and i was quite shocked at prices.

I wouldn't pay for those prices blind. I tried around 20 juices and bought 2. One was $24/40ml. The other was $21/30ml. These are made in small batches and some flavors are seasonal. They're only sold through Vape Rev. In those cases I would pay for the premium but like I said, I had the luxury of tasting the juice before I bought it. Considering Halo charges $20/30ml for juice that tastes like gym socks and made in huge batches, I give this place some wiggle room. My local B&M charges $1/ml for Pink Spot so everything is relative. I can only justify my spending by admitting to myself that I'm trying to get in good with them so I can buy a Chi You. Seriously. The Chi You made my EA Mod look like a crude pipe bomb by comparison. It's a work of art.

Some questions:

1) What ohms should a rebuilt Phoenix be?

2) Are Joyetech Twists really short-protected like they claim?

3) Are protected 18650 batteries on a mechanical mod gonna blow up on me with a short?

Thanks! Kinda scary stuff....

Protected no. Hence protected. Ohms on a Phoenix is up to your comfort and taste. I was hesitant at first as well. But once you get the first one up and running you be a pro at it. I just did one yesterday and it was 2.2 ohms

Good! My mech mod has protected batts. How many wraps did it take for a 2.2 ohm? And thanks for your help!

I used 32g kanthal. 4 wraps around cotton yarn. And I ran it on my provari. All I can say is still tread lightly. I would pulse it lightly to see if it will fire.

2) Are Joyetech Twists really short-protected like they claim?

I did a search on this and many people claim that the short protection worked as advertised for them, but the occasional person said the electronics on theirs just failed completely. I was testing the output on one of mine with a multimeter and I *think* I may have shorted it, and now it's completely dead. It's kind of a crapshoot. :(

I use my ProVari to test/build my genesis since it has the built-in protection. I don't have a Phoenix, but from what I've read it's pretty difficult to short a Phoenix if you're using silica/cotton wick.

I would recommend to stay around 1.8 ohms or so. Seems to be a good number for mechanicals. I would try a 4/5 wrap 32g?

4/5 28g - 1.0 to 1.1 ohms
4/5 30g - 1.3 to 1.5 ohms
4/5 32g - 1.7 to 2.0 ohms

ish.

I did get the 32 g wire. Hopefully I get to try out my new Phoenix tomorrow!!!! I'm gonna try to rebuild my first Vivi coil as soon as I get my stuff. I'm so excited. I need to go check my tracking...and get busy. I goofed off way too much yesterday and now I'm slammed with chores.

Thanks for the help guys!

That's good to know that the protection works. I don't want PV shrapnel imbedded in my forehead.

On an eGo Twist bat, you want to keep you resistance between 1.8-2.5 ohms. Below 1.8 will stress the battery and possibly shorten its lifespan. Above 2.5 and you might not get a strong enough vape.

I wouldn't suggest using 28g wire in a phoenix especially with an eGo. 30 is doable but the resistance is going to be low. 32AWG is perfect wire for a phoenix and an eGo battery.
