SS is the only way to go with the Phoenix's. It has taken over being my dripping atty. What makes it even better is taking off the top cover (where the 510 drip tip sits) and replacing it with an 801 drip tip. You end up with a HUGE hole to drip through. ;)

I agree. I love SS. It isn't for everyone though. A buddy of mine can't use it at all. He must be super sensitive to it because he says he tastes it and can't stand it.

I'm trying to figure out how to put SS in my a7 that I'm using as a bottom feeder on my reo. I'm using cotton right now and I actually think it is wicking too much. Sort of seems like it drowns the coil and I don't get the vape I should.

I had posted on the BIG THREAD earlier about Tropical Vapors. I will get into a little more detail here. I purchased a YJ Lavatube from Tropical Vapors earlier this month. Turns out the thing simply does not function well. It burns the juice no matter how low the power setting. Xfoo helped me dig up some info. Turns out, this unit has a 33Hz frequency. That is very low! And especially when combined with pulse width modulation. It's just a poor design despite that it delivers dead nuts power accuracy across the range of settings. Xfoo and I concluded the power is peaking and dwelling too long and causing hot spots on the coil. That's our story and we're sticking to it. By the way, for you ProVari owners (including me now), Xfoo also found that ProVari incorporates PWM as well but do it with a 800Hz frequency. This flattens out the power delivered through the PV. It probably also, in part, explains why a ProVari is expensive.

But I want to say that Tom at Tropical Vapors was very cooperative and understood my dissatisfaction and agreed to refund me in full. I gave him an option to keep my money and exchange my LT with a VAMO even though the VAMO lists at $12 more. He agreed. So I will be joining the ranks of the VAMO wavers soon. I'll use it as a work PV or a backup or give it to the wife or something.

Tropical Vapors stands behind their products so if you dig that, give them a browse.

The Vamo is set at the same PWM frequency. You might as well give it a try. There aren't any current PWM devices at higher frequencies. The Vamo will probably feel warmer than the Provari but it shouldn't burn the juice. Make sure you set it to use V-RMS by holding down either + or - button for ten seconds until you see " N02". Keep it on that setting and leave it there. The Vamo remembers that setting even after battery removal but it arrives in V-AVG (N01) mode by default.

Xfoo, are you saying the Vamo is set at the same PWM frequency as the Provari or the LavaTube?

Excellent to know this X!!! This is a VW PV isn't it?

I think you're mixing two different things Chak. I'm not an electrical engineer, but PWM is PWM and frequency refers to the "refresh" rate. It's similar to your TV screen refreshing itself. The picture is not constant like people think. It is actually giving you a new picture 60 times a second (if it is a 60Hz set). That's how come you see seamless motion. The higher the Hz the more seamless it is. But there is a point at which the human eye cannot notice the difference.

The Vamo is the same freq as the YJ LavaTube. 33.3Hz

Yes. It's either and very easy to switch from vv to vw. Hold both + and - buttons for 5 sec to toggle.

Do you ever use the VW mode?

I do. After using both for a while, there's not much difference. If you know your preferred voltages and you know the ohm's law conversion in your head, then vv is trusty. VW is solid but if I need to fine tune a flavor, I switch over to vv. It's nice having the option. VW is more of a set-it-and-forget-it thing. VV is more of a sweet-spot finder. The good thing about VW is you can go from a 3ohm carto to a 1.5ohm Nova without changing anything, and the output will be constant.
