What is safe, and what is not?
which is why i said generally recognized as safe. now you are arguing Semantics. you can give someone "safe" charger and batteries, thats still no guarantee they aren't gonna blow their face off. the best safety features in the world can't fix stupid.

I'll get a very slight him off my tr 001, too, a unit that has been working fine for the past year. Noticeable in an unloaded state, nothing charging.

I get similar, slight, hum off of my other power supplies, like my 2a usb wall supply, noticeable when they are not loaded (nothing connected).

Unless it gets noticeably louder, or the charger is getting hot, I don't worry at all about that kind of hum.

Don't Panic!
More cellphone batteries explode every year than e-cigs.
Do you have a link to a story like this? I'm not doubting you in any way, but I don't recall in recent history a cell phone blowing someones ear off.
But for me, that's beside the point anyway. As far as I'm concerned, one accident like this is one too many. And at the very least, I think we should know how and why this happened.
I suspect in the Cell Phone incidents, there was some type of recall.
In this incident, there's nothing at all....not even simple information as to what type of device Tom was using...go figure.

Cell phones keep coming up. Percentage wise, how many blow up compared to e-cigs.
I mean "Blow Up", and hurt someone?

Real question, not semantics.

i know just recently a droid razr exploded in a dudes ear. i think i read about it on gizmodo the other day, ill try to dig the article up. but year back they used to explode all the time, i was hearing about it every week. granted it was a long time ago, but it did happen, i think as far as ecig batteries blowing up and hurting people compared to laptops, flashlights, and cell phones, we are still in good shape.

This is why I stick with quality branded batteries/safer battery chemistries such as li-mn, don't discharge them below 3.8v, always keep them in plastic cases when not in use and make sure my mods are not damaged when in use. The media behind this whole incident is ridiculous. So much fear mongering in favor of ratings/viewers/readers, it really ends up bringing the numb-minded masses astray from the real truth. So unfortunate what today's connected society has been reduced to (especially since the dawn of facebook!). Going a little off topic here... But anyway:

Sending my good wishes/vibes out to a fellow vaper and wish him a speedy recovery! And if ya happen to be a member here or elsewhere, let us know the configuration you use/what happened! Hopefully this can be turned into something positive that raises awareness to safety starting with the manufacturers and ending with the end-user. But, as with anything, there's always that inherent risk behind it that we tend to ignore. Electricity causes at least 55,000 house fires per year yet- just about every single house is still built with electrical systems. There's always going to be that small percentage, especially with all of today's high powered portable electronics, just take precautions and hope that you don't fall into that small percentage of freak accidents

I think I'll start keeping my cell phone on my ear all day whether I'm using it or not, while constantly vaping.
Hey, if I'm going to do this thing, I'm going all the way and doing it right. :D

make sure you duct tape a laptop to your lap at the same time, while using an electric shaver in a hybrid car

Running with scissors has killed so many people they even made a movie about it :)
But think of the odds again. How many scissors doo you think there are in the world.

Odds?

If this incident was not a little mini (like shown in the news), or an eGo (even though some have had problems), but was a stacked battery commercial mod. How many of those are out there? Compared to electric razors, or cell phones?

What's the odds?
