the strength of that joint is the solder, omitting that, it is not a strong joint at all. not really a very small one either.

Before diver showed off his toy, I had been researching welding the wires and tig was an appropriate method mentioned by the Kanthal Corp. I don't speak Greek but from the video divers device looked like an adjustable current dc arc welder miniaturized for small gauge wire welding. I don't think it would be all that hard to make but I would probably just pick one up for the convenience if they are made available at a reasonable price. I can see Bishopheals welding like 6 or 7 res wires off a single nr wire and creating a web of death coil with this contraption.

I am actually curious as to how Imeo makes his ready wire, I of course understand not wanting to reveal this information, but that doesn't stop me from wondering....

What if one were to use pliers or somehow get it so the harder nichrome wire did wrap around the silver wire? Would all of the nichrome heat up or just the coil? Thinking about it now I assume only the coil would heat up, because in a standard wrap the nichrome doesn't heat up where it's wrapped with silver, right?
I'm trying to think of a better way to twist the wires so they wrap evenly, despite the soft silver..
Only the resistance wire up to the point where it touches the NR will heat up. That is called western union splice as taught by my college engineering professors. If you can twist it as your pic above, it is the easiest and best way to join two wires of the same type.

I make those wires in a machine that was made for this job gsa. Machine is feeded with wires and heats those wires while it keeps them straight with a mechanism. Its a factory product, thats why connections are so small and thin that you almost cant see them

I tried to connect wires like the image I posted:

It's quick and dirty but I can't pull the wires apart. It might be a longer connection, but it's certainly thinner... might fit better under the wick? Haven't tried it yet, though... If only there was a way to twist the wires very tightly I think it'd work out nicely and be shorter and smaller than the typical twist.. any thoughts?

Another idea I had: what if we had a very small "Y" shaped tube. You could put 2 wires in it and twist it... that seems like it would wrap 2 wires nice and tight. Wish I had something like that around I could try. There's gotta be some kind of little tool out there to wrap very small wires, one would think.. Hmmmm...
Just kind of thinking out loud here :)

thanks bishop, I actually have been twisting the coils the way you show, but they were always a bit bulky.. I think I just need to take more time to make them nice and tight and next time I will also wrap the wire connections around the wick as well.. I think that's where my trouble lies. Before, I would try and put the wire connections into the channel, and it ends up taking up too much space... I think I'm just looking too far into it :p
Thanks for the videos, too! I saw these on youtube before but didn't realize it was you!

Why is it bullky? if you see my latest video I did those junction points are extremely tiny.

I think it's bulky at the point where you turn over the silver wire after you've twisted the wires together, that seems to be where my bulk has come. I've only made a couple of these setups, though, so I've got a lot of practicing to do, but I will be using tweezers for the whole thing from now on... I've always just used my hands to wrap the silver around the twist, so that's probably where my problems are :)

Yeah I've actually used needle-nose pliers and tweezers to twist the 2 wires together, But I think the main thing was the bending of the silver wire was never tight enough... either way, though, I think wrapping the wire connection around the wick will solve all these problems!

many people I met has gone through the same thing. If you like we can go on skype and I can give you a hand maybe something small needs tweaking to make it easier for you.
