I was told once that whatever I did, don't let them get back outside. Now that Florida has the stand your ground law and it's academic. Just have to prove that uou thought your life was in danger.
I think we've had this discussion before. Leaving the body on the doorstep is defensible; tampering with evidence is not. I will continue to leave 'em where they lie - if the situation arises, I mean.

somebody please correct me if I'm wrong....I thought the assailant had to be at least half way IN to call it self defense...

One half was at least half-way "in"...the other half was at least half-way "out"

:p

Out of the Presley Catalog, "Don't" was always one of my favorites .. there are a few Female renditions / interpretations that give it a little different spin .. ;)

One of my other All Time Favorites ::

The original is also quite nice, Ray Peterson is underappreciated .. :)

1988 S&W 9mm 459 Double Stack / 14+1 / Nightstand / Loaded / Safety On .. if this won't stop them, nothing will ..
1977 Winchester Model 12 Pump Action 12 Gauge / Mancave / Loaded / Safety On .. I figure the cocking sound alone is enough to deter most ..

2012 Beretta Nano 9mm .. at the Workshop and Carried when I think I might need to .. also, I'd recommend this model to any Female without hesitation .. :)

You can never be too prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse, (or Apocalypses of any Sort) .. ;)

None of that makes me any less a Peacenik .. but, you know, better safe than sorry .. ;)
If I had my own house, I might go for a shotgun. Like you said, the sound alone would scare off most interlopers.

I haven't even brought my gun home yet. It's sitting on my desk at work. I need to buy a safe and figure out where to store it. I also need to go to the range enough to get more comfortable with it.

The Beretta Nano does look interesting. I think I need to get more experience shooting first. Right now, a 9mm kicks more than I like. I've never had a strong grip. But, with minimal practice, it would likely be fine.

It'll probably be next Spring before I can afford to buy anything. So, no rush.
I have a 30 ot 6...locked n loaded....really, I do. Don't know if I'd actually shoot anyone...well, if they were trying to break in I certainly would...
I'm not sure if I could actually shoot at someone. I assume I could if I was feeling scared enough or protective enough.

I know the gun will make me feel safer once I've practiced more. It was easy to get comfortable with a 30-30 and a 30-06. The feel of the wood made all the difference. I'll have to learn that kind of comfort with a handgun.

I also have a shotgun for when I used to go deer hunting, but it's too big n bulky for " home use".

( I was born in the middle of four boys so I naturally played ruff...no dolls n such...tho I did love Jacks and Pic-up -sticks and Hopscotch)

I will surely be glad when this Heatwave we're still gripped in Flyover Country breaks .. it's a bit odd for this time of the year to still be hitting 95 .. any rain we've had just gets sucked up quick or evaporates just as quick .. my yard is a wasteland (that could be a Good Thing .. :)) .. not having had to mow now ..

I'll have to get out and at least mow/mulch the leaf fall soon .. although I don't expect the leaves have anything to do with "Fall Color" .. it's more like lack of water .. I don't even know if there will be any worthwhile "Fall Color" this year at all .. :(

October is my month for doing my yearly Winery Tour, but this heat sure does nothing to put me in the mood for it ..

I discovered yesterday that my front door has been unlocked for several days. Last night I had a dream that there was someone else with me in my bed. It was upsetting.

Upsetting because ?? I guess, for me, it would all depend on who I dreamed was in my bed...;) :D

What a sad commentary it has become....:( when I was a child, we didn't even lock the doors at night....and now to see so many feeling they need to be armed and carrying....

Well, the good news is, the naysayers on carry have been proven wrong .. there has been no uptick that I know of on senseless shootings because of the carry laws ..

I've packed heat ;) since the 1970's / '80's .. at the minimum in a vehicle .. mainly because what I used to do and being on the road a lot .. during all that time, I only had to brandish and fire a warning round once, when I really felt threatened ..

I don't really worry all that much about Home Invasion, my place is pretty secure .. so is the workshop, by necessity .. for me, it's just the security of knowing I'm prepared just in case ..

I'll add that I know at least 3 women that carry because they were the victims of Domestic Violence and, although I'm sure they are prepared to use it, they say that just having it has helped their emotional trauma lessen .. almost like a therapy ..
