Hola ..
When I was coming up as a kid, Westerns on TV were the thing .. we had a small Black & White TV, it maybe got 2 or 3 channels tops and you had to fiddle with the antenna sometimes to get reception .. but, that's where we were in the evening .. shows like "The Cisco Kid", "Davy Crockett", "The Gene Autry Show", "Gunsmoke", "The Lone Ranger" and more, dominated the airwaves, it seemed ..
So, I loved cap guns .. the ones that would come with a holster .. they were generally a cheap metal, you could sling one on and emulate those Western stars you'd see on the TV .. if a kid was lucky, they'd have a Cowboy Hat as well .. I don't remember ever having had a Hat ..
The beauty of the cap gun was the small, red rolls of caps that could be bought cheaply .. they came in a roll of I think 4 or 5 in a small box, and you'd break off one and place it in the "chamber", feeding it up thru the mechanism .. when you pulled the trigger, the mechanism would feed up the roll, one cap at a time .. and, you'd get a pretty good little pop, from what I guess now was a tiny bit of gunpowder, a dot on the paper .. it was a fun toy, it even had a certain smell as it popped off .. the spent paper roll would feed up thru the mechanism, and you could see where the tiny "explosion" had taken place ..
Sometimes, you'd get a dud, but they worked, for the most part .. the worst thing was when you ran out of caps and had to wait and beg Mom or Dad to buy you some .. they were fairly readily available in those days ..
It's likely not advisable to send a kid out to play, these days, with a cap gun, if there even are such things anymore .. but, I don't think kids get out and play like they did in those long ago days anymore, anyway ..

Donk forget the cork pop guns with the string, those were fun too.Ah! But your outfit wasn't complete unless you also had a Daisy Air Rifle (not a BB gun, can't be shooting your eye out). It just shot a burst of air w/ a loud pop. How-some-ever ... we learned that if you take the cap off the end of the barrel, you could jam the barrel into the ground and then shoot a plug of turf at the bad guy's.

Not my family but I knew kids very much like that. I had a newspaper route when I was a kid. Oh and I hated hauling the Sunday paper being that it was the thickest of the week with all the sales stuff in them. I saved up money from my route and bought some cool stuff but my Dad also taught me to save money.Daisy Air Rifle's .. ?? Full on Cowboy / Cowgirl Outfits .. ?? I was lucky to get a Cap Gun and holster .. you folks must have grew up on Snob Hill, that fabled and coveted area where the Sugar Plum Fairy resided and Kids got every wish fulfilled ..
I don't hold it against you .. can't pick your Parents ..![]()
Dang, now you've done it!

Good morning! I never had any cap guns, but my brother did. (girls didn't get those kinds of toys) I just played with the rolls of caps because they sounded cool when the roll was strung out on the sidewalk and whacked the black dots with a rock. I was too busy playing baseball. Dad built us a backstop in the back yard so we always had a game going. I have not one picture of my favorite pastime.
That is just so sad.........Hola ..
In the modern World, had the Cap Pistol and Caps survived, the Toy Regulation Crusaders would be all over it .. hearings would be heard, the fate of the Children would be debated at length, caps with questionable dots would be discovered, the Media would be all over it, the CDC would issue health Warnings .. and the side line use of caps and a rock or hammer for popping purposes would be cited as an example of the illicit, unintended usage that was clearly illegal ..
And, don't even get me started on Jarts ..

Am so sorry, Bea...it's heartbreaking when we have to say goodbye to our furbabies.Good morning everyone
Yesterday was a terrible day. We had to say goodbye to our Peaty. He was a wonderful cat and my friend for almost 14 years. I shall miss him terribly.
