and the people who are supposed to know about this kind of thing (uh, but do they, really??) are saying that it's life span out of a host is short enough that contamination on a package is pretty remote.

Hola .. :)

Remote, to me anyway, means that it may be small, but, it's still possible ..

Yah, remote isn't far enough!

Although transmission seems to be the usual for colds, flu and similar. So not breathing someone else's air, and lots of handwashing will do a lot to stop its spread.

I'm still aghast at all the poor folk quarantined on cruise ships, confined to their cabins. Uh, having repaired and built ships for many years, well, all passenger spaces aboard have the same air handling system, so what comes out of one cabin eventually goes everywhere...

I'm not trying to put anyone in a frenzy, but information out there on the Deep Web indicates the Chinese Government has welded doors / barricaded windows and placed armed guards outside suspected contaminated living complexes, which is where many if not most live .. folks can chalk that up to "Fake News", I can't say, but I won't totally discount it ..

I'll add :: “Don’t worry about the new coronavirus, worry about the flu .." Yes, we know the flu is bad .. no one likes the flu .. But the gambit of positioning the influenza virus as the scarier of two foes is as dangerous as it is misleading .. it's a zero-sum game ..

The total number of confirmed cases has grown from 282 on January 21 to 31,211 on February 7 .. 50 million folks are under lockdown, and these are admitted numbers .. .. we are told to focus on the flu instead, which tacitly allows us to ignore the suffering in China ..

As long as we have international air travel, diseases will have a ticket to the world... but in this case, if China had listened to the doc back in December, it might have been contained sooner. It does seem to be air-borne, and the people who are supposed to know about this kind of thing (uh, but do they, really??) are saying that it's life span out of a host is short enough that contamination on a package is pretty remote.

I do think much of the shipping delays are because people are still in quarantine and not back on the job.

1) Yep fastech's website says they're shut down because employees can't travel to work.

2) In another ECF thread it was said that the corona virus can't last more than a few hours on 'packaging'. So it would surely be 'dead' by the time it reach the states. errrr, ummm, that person read it on the internet, and obviously so did I, so I don't have much reason to trust that information.

The Amazon site has a gazillion items. I don't think everything you order comes from their warehouse. Amazon has connections to all kinds of vendors so I guess Wallmart is one of them. You can now take your returns to Kohl's and I'm sure other places depending on where you are in the country. So, I guess you could get items from different stores and they use the Amazon packing materials if that's where the item was ordered? I wonder if you actually went to Walmart to buy your coffee, would the price be the same as if you'd ordered it from Amazon?

Darn it, Janet, how many days?

37 Days until Spring!!! Yesterday I cleaned off a bunch of aphids from my hibiscus plant on my windowsill!! Somehow those little buggers keep finding that plant, but I think we're winning. There's 6 buds growing!

Hola .. :)

I am just plain tired of rain and gloomy days .. I'll bet Mother Nature is exhausting Herself and this Summer will be dry as a bone .. :(

Sometimes, I wonder if Threads just run their course and folks move on, or maybe think they don't have anything left to contribute .. I miss the days when I'd log on an go thru a long list of "Walton Good Mornings" ..

That's not to say that those that motor on are not appreciated .. it just seems like things are in the Winter doldrums 'round here ..

I took another look at my order, just out of curiosity .. I mistakenly thought I was ordering from Amazon itself, turned out it was a 2nd party seller .. so, I'd guess that seller also sells on Walmart.com and just used the Walmart packing material ..

Actually, I think you were dealing with a slightly scummy scammer. This sounds like "retail arbitrage" where someone lists a widget on Amazon (or ebay), and then fulfills your order by making a "gift" order on Walmart.com and Walmart ships the widget to you while the seller collects a tidy little profit. It isn't legal on Amazon, but there are a lot of sellers that do it anyway. I fell victim to this a couple of times before catching on to the scam. I try to remember to check Walmart for some of the household items to see if I can find it there and take advantage of their free shipping.

I've been lurking and not posting but avidly following Janet's count down to spring (although I don't expect it here until June LOL).

Work is very busy as we turn over from one year into the next. My eyes get scrambled from looking at lots of numbers. (hence my taking a break to check out this thread!) I'm usually in zombie mode by the time I get home. Fortunately, DH is a good cook and feeds me well.

On the lighter side, my Monday night water aerobics class is a good start to the week. I'm sort of the class clown. I'm very comfortable in the water, but must confess that I regularly lose the fight with the pool noodle somewhere along the way and all I (and the instructor) can do is laugh. I think she changes up the exercises just to see what I'll do next. I've beaned myself with it, done a face plant, and this week tried to drown myself - I guess I was overly enthusiastic so I popped up like a cork out of the water then crashed back down, going under on the rebound. At least my glasses stayed on! The exercise and laughter go a long way towards keeping some level of sanity in the midst of the madness.

Best to all!
