[Deleted Name] "Uncle" - reminds me .. my kitchen sink area window faces West .. one day, as a got a glass of water, the sun was hitting the glass just right, and as I looked at it, I could see tiny shtuff floating around in the water ..
Within the week, I had installed a water filtration device, dedicated to that sink, for drinking water, coffee, etc .. I also use an Asobu water bottle, filling it each day from that tap .. the bottle could easily double as a defense weapon, especially when filled .. and, it keeps me from using plastic ..
This kit from Amazon is similar to what I installed, it was an easy job .. since that day by the window, I refuse to drink water out of a tap unfiltered unless I absolutely have to ..

Talk about saving some money - wish I knew then what I know now, could have save a lot of money and time . . .

More importantly, this will surely help others save - not only some money, but the hassle of getting all the supply's I listed an follow those instructions . . .

Yeah but ... those filters are meant for filtering metals, minerals and chlorine basically from your water. It's not meant to filter bacteria, virus and protozoans. To handle that you need something more along the lines of backpacker's filters.

For drinking water and coffee water we just use the water dispenser built into the fridge. It has one of those filter cartridges like you two are talking about.
YEP - Won't filter Bacteria/Virus unless Ya' get a more powerful filter system to do that . . . This was just an on-the-cheap water filter - mainly for filtering "city" chlorinated water that comes through old pipes (particles) for Drinking & "Cooking" instead of using bottled water . . . AND - To replace using a Brita Filtering system (PIA to use) . . . Also, for people who don't have a water dispenser in fridge available to them - like "Me" who lives in an Apartment that management only gives Ya' a barely minimum Apartment Size Refrigerator to use . . . Hey - Matter of fact, the stove I have is only an electric 24" wide w/4 burners - that can't fit more then 1 large pot/saute pan & 1 small pot at a time - it's embarrassing to try and cook a whole dinner for myself all at once, let alone any possible company . . . Think "Pullman Kitchen" spread over 6' x 3' (Galley Style) . . . Just Sayin' . . .
BTW: Thanks for the link to the "backpacker's filters" - I'll be checking them out . . .
