[Deleted Name] "Uncle" - reminds me .. my kitchen sink area window faces West .. one day, as a got a glass of water, the sun was hitting the glass just right, and as I looked at it, I could see tiny shtuff floating around in the water ..

Within the week, I had installed a water filtration device, dedicated to that sink, for drinking water, coffee, etc .. I also use an Asobu water bottle, filling it each day from that tap .. the bottle could easily double as a defense weapon, especially when filled .. and, it keeps me from using plastic ..

This kit from Amazon is similar to what I installed, it was an easy job .. since that day by the window, I refuse to drink water out of a tap unfiltered unless I absolutely have to ..

https://www.amazon.com/Culligan-US-EZ-1-EZ-Change-Undersink-Filtration/dp/B000THIZUG/ref=sr_1_23?keywords=water+filtration+system+under+sink&qid=1584656899&refinements=p_72:1248909011&rnid=468240&s=hi&sr=1-23&swrs=9E15369CDF0ABD46D2F9AC2FD5A74315&th=1

Talk about saving some money - wish I knew then what I know now, could have save a lot of money and time . . .

More importantly, this will surely help others save - not only some money, but the hassle of getting all the supply's I listed an follow those instructions . . .

Yeah but ... those filters are meant for filtering metals, minerals and chlorine basically from your water. It's not meant to filter bacteria, virus and protozoans. To handle that you need something more along the lines of backpacker's filters.

Results for “water filters” at REI

For drinking water and coffee water we just use the water dispenser built into the fridge. It has one of those filter cartridges like you two are talking about.

YEP - Won't filter Bacteria/Virus unless Ya' get a more powerful filter system to do that . . . This was just an on-the-cheap water filter - mainly for filtering "city" chlorinated water that comes through old pipes (particles) for Drinking & "Cooking" instead of using bottled water . . . AND - To replace using a Brita Filtering system (PIA to use) . . . Also, for people who don't have a water dispenser in fridge available to them - like "Me" who lives in an Apartment that management only gives Ya' a barely minimum Apartment Size Refrigerator to use . . . Hey - Matter of fact, the stove I have is only an electric 24" wide w/4 burners - that can't fit more then 1 large pot/saute pan & 1 small pot at a time - it's embarrassing to try and cook a whole dinner for myself all at once, let alone any possible company . . . Think "Pullman Kitchen" spread over 6' x 3' (Galley Style) . . . Just Sayin' . . .

BTW: Thanks for the link to the "backpacker's filters" - I'll be checking them out . . .

Yep ... closed virtually everything as of 8pm last night. Even closed "Lawn and Garden Equipment and Supplies Stores". What the heck if your lawn mower breaks down with spring grass growing season on the way.

And he assigned the Liquor Control Board agents to begin enforcement this weekend. I guess that's why he shut down the liquor stores so the agents can make sure no one buys a new lawn mower or repair parts.

Good foggy morning! Lots of fog. Probably because it's going up to 74 today! Wow! That's shorts weather!

Last night after reading about our state closing businesses Mike realized we were pretty low on printer paper. So he ran out to our local office supply place and they were already closed. He had to pick up a Rx at Wallgreen's anyway and when he got there found that they were having a sale on - you guessed it - printer paper! Ta Da!

Thank you for that! Yes, I'm excited. My chives from last year have been growing like crazy in a barrel on the deck. Couldn't till the garden last weekend, but I hope it can get done soon. Can't wait to get out and dig in the dirt.

I have the big, reverse osmosis filter but I never use it. I know that if you don't pull apart and clean the 'faucet' part super regularly, you can get a nasty buildup. I can smell mildew a mile away and I could always detect some when no one else could. I choose to use the fridge filter and the Brita which is no work for me other than changing the filters.

That's pretty similar to the one I put under our kitchen sink some years back. (Cheaper then.)

Under Counter Water Filters, under sink filter

Two contaminant-specific filters can be combined with the KDF/GAC filter in this triple configuration for specific problems: bacteria, high chlorine or chloramine, high VOCs, fluoride, nitrates, or sodium. YOU choose the two cartridges you want in addition to the KDF/GAC filter.
    Choose from the following:

Scroll down to the 3 filter one near the bottom.

I suspect the one you linked could use the same filters, as the one's listed for it do not remove bacteria.

From the epidemiologist at south FL university. shop at stores that sanitize their premises nightly and shop when they first open in the morning. Everything will be cleaner than later. Also this virus can live on surfaces for hours depending on the material. He suggests wiping everything we purchase with disinfectant wipes, including all grocery store items.

He recommends that anyone over 60 and anyone who has heart disease or COPD or diabetes stay inside.

My beloved gdaughter is taking me to the grocery store this coming Tues. for some stables...at 7: a.m.! I'll be wearing a facemask and disposable gloves....maybe a hazmat suit, if I can find one...
Oh...the early time.7:00 to 8:00 is for "seniors" only!

One of the necessary staples is cucumbers...

    Willie n Yiddle...don"t go there:D

    Hola .. :)

Well, whether you use a lower to mid-level water filter or a higher end model, I'm all for water filters .. based on what I can see with the naked eye in my water, filtering it thru toilet paper would be an improvement .. :p

The water pressure around these parts is not the Worlds greatest, those 3 stage filters might struggle, I don't know .. (but, I may look into one ..)

What's the skinny on the PA total shutdown .. ?? I'd like to read up on it since that might portend what's coming 'round here ..

We're not real high on pressure, either. But the provided tap with ours, with all 3 filters, is essentially the same flow rate as the single stage 'fridge water dispenser, which of course runs only one.

Also, for us - just us 2, mostly - the ceramic filter comes out for cleaning about once a year, vegetable brush and running water for a good scrub. And I replace all 3 about every two or three years, so a lot cheaper than, say, Brita :) (If your water is especially silty, the ceramic may need cleaning more often.)

We went to town yesterday and stocked on basic liquor.... We live in a very rural area near a small town. The local Winn Dixie even had toilet paper (although we don't need any and didn't buy any). We also have a wonderful farm stand with lots of great fresh veggies. We have plenty of meat, poultry and fish in the freezer. Today DH smoked some salmon (yum!!!) and made meatballs. I told him we better eat some of the frozen leftovers before we cook any more fresh!

We need to make a Home Depo/Lowes run tomorrow to get a few supplies for home products before they are shut down. It's crazy out there! We don't need anything major, just supplies to have on hand "just in case".

I was out and about for a bit, picking up a few things .. had to settle for Almond Milk, since 3 places I went to had no regular milk, I hope it works OK in coffee, seems to have a pretty long expiration date .. on the way back, I drove past a Walmart, the parking lot looked worse than Black Friday .. this was after the Gov had put the clampdown on for tomorrow ..

There is an eatery near my workshop owned by Amish .. although they have been curtailed from having walk in's, they are now selling eggs / fresh bread / milk .. and doing a booming business ..

Made a run to Lowes today to spend a gift card I recieved for Christmas. Bought some seeds for the garden. Now to get the tiller running so I can plant it all.
    20200320_191254_compress85.jpg

I still need to get some seeds for companion plants, marigolds, nasturtiums, basil, alyssum, rosemary, thyme, calendula, a few others. I'm excited, it's been a few years since I last gardened. With everything going on, this is the perfect time to take it up again.

Best part of my shopping trip was that after using the gift card, it cames out to less than $6 out of pocket :)
