It's hard to beat Bernard Cornwell .. :)
Bernard Cornwell is a wonderful dive into another reality. I highly recommend him. In the cathedral book, he explains his take on the origins of Masonry. I found it highly enlightening. Those architects were amazing men. I got Greg Iles' first two.

Hola .. :)

Not to mention cost .. you can drop some real coin on a new front door ..

YES! I knew it would be expensive, but not this expensive! Still, it's the first impression of the house and needs to be welcoming. We hardly ever use the front door because we just come in through the garage, but everybody else does. The front door has been neglected for years which is not good for safety reasons. When locked you just have to give it a shove with your shoulder and it opens right up. I had no idea our kids would do that when they forgot their key after school. Shhhhhhhsh! Don't tell anybody.

'The Pillars of the Earth' by Ken Follett has it's basis in Gothic architecture and Romanesque architecture, as well as the Church .. it is excellent .. also 'World Without End' and 'A Column of Fire' .. by Follett as part of the series ..

to "Everyone" for their "Welcome Back' messages . . .

It's somewhat of a pleasant day here being that I am in my apartment - it is partially sunny/cloudy and extremely humid out there . . . Feels Like Temp: 100 . . .

ru-BbSwkVghflHxyBwD3UAPbSXrfRowpHKgUkV6g9it6N0X-8RKa7cNCS3zpBNfCSDcLLWgYy5rUuzmjqvcKVfLtbYezaxmWXkPXKRc2ByVnijXCoeR9cpalNswPzqtks3Q

Now to try and catch-up and reply to some of the post, since "My" laptop is now starting to be somewhat temperamental again at times - it decides it wants to take a nap and restart itself . . . I was warned things like this might happen . . . Hopefully, it will get enough rest and keep working for a little while yet, or at least until the back-to school sales and/or holiday sales for computers are around and when they are less expensive . . . Definitively have to keep an eye out for a new one . . . Just Sayin' . . .

Of course we noticed. I noticed but thought you needed some alone time. Glad you’re back.
YEP - At times, some alone time is absolutely necessary . . .

As - I mentioned in another thread, besides the computer being corrupted - I was having a few not so pleasant things happened . . . One of them was that "My" birthday was in the beginning of last month and 2 days later - A very good friend I've know for over 45 years lost his 5th battle with cancer - NOT NICE :-x

However, things are starting to look up a little bit, hopefully it will stay that way for a little while too . . . Just Sayin' . . .

@Uncle Welcome back. So glad you didn't loose your files!

 "YOU" ? ? ? While I still had a few of the files backed up from a few years ago, I honestly don't know what I would have done - if "Our" Friend and the "MENSCH" didn't step up and offer to help me out . . . Especially given that I had all "My" pictures (including family photos from pre 1900) scan and uploaded to the computer that weren't backed up too . . . :(
(BTW: Thanks for the support . . . )

Hola .. :)

In truth, I almost posted an inquiry about your absence on more that one occasion .. :) .. each time I figured you must have a reason or two and felt like it was maybe to early for me to be nosey ..

'YOU' NOSEY - Never . . . Just Sayin'. . .
;)

Yes, I know. I used to be a big book reader but not in a long time. I don’t if I’ll ever get back to it but maybe.

YEP - Same here . . .

Never though I'd end up so suspicious in my old age, ...but I don't trust anything anymore.

SO AGREE ^ ^ ^ ^

Wonder what the men would say if we told them to lay their pe*** on a shelf and let us squish it? Oh well. THAT'S not ever going to happen.

Maybe not their pe*** - but just image those men who have to have the same mammogram done looking for cancer every so often too . . . Talk about the, PULL - PUSH - SQUEEZE , of someone with a flat chest . . . Oh Yea - then there is the same physical pain that women go trough having that vise machine "CLAMP DOWN". . . Just Sayin' . . . :rolleyes;

AND - As a public service announcement to the males reading this post . . . Lets not forget - like most men do - there is the testicular exams that should be done at least once a month . . .

Either way, hope Ya' made it through the testing and everything went okay . . .

oh, I guess i should probably get dressed too...

 REALLY ? ? ? Would it be that necessary ? ? ? I don't think anyone here would get upset if Ya' didn''t . . . ;)

yo High Heel Sneakers

OOOO - I use to have a pair of those back in the early 70's . . .

Bet Ya' did too . . . :pervy:

Then again, I'm not the most social person. I probably have a different perspective on all of this than most people. And the world has moved on, and keeps moving on, leaving me behind, to reflect on what was, in my mind, better days.

The bad thing is, while I use to be very social person (both personally and professionally) and I never thought I would say this - But, I totally agree with "You" . . . Just Sayin' . . .

Well, Dan, sadly, I never did have a pair of High Heel sneakers .. I have, although, been accused of having more shoes and boots than Imelda Marcos .. but, I wear Chucks most all the time when the weather is nice, insulated boots in the cold Winter months ..

I bought a pair of nice sandals just the other day on-line from Kohl's .. they were $60 regular on clearance for $15.00 .. however, buying shoes on-line is a crap shoot anymore .. the Chinese don't seem to know what American Male foot sizes are .. when you could still buy shoes Made in the USA, I wore a 10.5 .. then, as the Chinese took over, I had to go to an 11 .. when I bought the sandals and picked them up, I ordered a 12 because many of the reviews said they ran small .. have not even taken them out of the box yet ..

Why do I like Chuck's .. ?? It's really not a fashion statement, they provide pretty good ankle support, I think they are comfortable, especially with an added padded insole ..

Good morning. Looks like it's going to be a lovely day here today and tomorrow will be mostly sunny as well. That's a good thing because someone in our neighborhood arranged to have a food truck set up right in our cul-de-sac tomorrow (Mexian cuisine). I've called in our order already and we just have to pick it up. Our daughter is coming with her family so we'll have to clean the pool. At least I won't have to spend my time in the kitchen putting food together. Looking forward to having a nice day tomorrow!

And that's the truth! We're replacing a double entry door with a single door and two side lites. We about doubled what we budgeted for the new door to get something we liked and it surely is way more then we were hoping to spend.

Good morning!

We had a lovely time yesterday and it felt so good to have our daughter here. Except for a brief visit on Monday, we hadn't seen them since 15 March, and living so close to one another, it was just too long.
Here are the cakes we so thoroughly enjoyed!

Well - Will . . .

Let's be honest - they were actually called Platform Sneakers - had 6" platform with a heal/sole that actually helped to "Stretch" my physical appearance to look more proportional (ie, Tall & Slim instead of Short & Fat) . . . ;) HEY - It was the start of the Disco era, had to "Look" good for all the Boys . . .

Agree, shoes sizes have definitely changed over the years, just not always the manufactures fault tho. AND - While I have worn may a different styles & pairs of sneakers/shoes/sandles/cowboy/hiking/work boots for many different functions & fashion reasons too . . . Today, just like the daily outfit of shorts and a button-down shirt - there is only one footware - "Croc's' - especially since that is the only footwear "My" feet can fit in . . . I know it might be difficult for you - but think, "Pregnant Women's' Feet Syndrome" and you'll possibly understand why . . . Just Sayin' . . .

Good Morning all. This are good here so it is off to another day at the farm. I will be spreading fertilizer on the grasses that were planted and more pond maintenance.
It is good to see you back online and it is so wonderful that you were able to retrieve your pictures and information. Just as with having backups for your vaping needs a good method of backing up our files and pictures. Do as I say not as I do. I need to set up a time to back up my laptop and tablet. Famous last words.

Maybe keep a usb drive plugged in, and set an automatic backup to run daily? Not the whole drive, just the user files, so shouldn't take long after the first run.

Happy Friday :)

YEP - I have one of the older portable WD Essential 500 GB External Drive that I use to take on the road with me already connected, especially given that the laptop has now decided to be temperamental again and decided to take "Naps" whenever it chooses to (Given this, keeping the 2TB External Hard Drive Safe & Sound until absolutely - NEEDED). . . So as a result - What I have been doing this past week, is if I change any file I not only do I save it on the laptop - I save it on that external drive too . . . YES - a "PIA" but I am determined that I am not going to lose anything now that I got "My' Files back . . . AND - I don't know how to do automatic daily back-ups to this drive . . .

BTW: "Nap" time comes at the worst moments - as I am typing a long post - It decides to close it's eyes and shut down . . . NOT NICE ! ! ! :-x

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone has a good day today!

Did I read that right? Did @Uncle say he was pregnant? I want pictures!:D

Sorry to say - NO - I thankfully am not that lucky (never ever going through that event - will just leave it to you women) - but if Ya' saw "My" feet (and "My" belly) "You" would think so . . . :img:

Anyway, in all seriousness, when I lived up north my feet would always swell during the summer months just like a "Pregnant Womans" would . . . AND - Since moving to Florida and becoming a DIabetic and then having "My" Heart Operation the problem has become worse . . . Not just water retention (which is supposedly normal for many people {especially those who are overwieght} after the vein is remove from your leg to use for a bypas ) - it seems I have a form of Lymphedema that mainly affects my left leg too . . . Which makes the daily discomfort of the Peripheral Nephropathy even more trying to deal with . . . HEY - I'm OLD ! ! ! While the "Mind" might be somewhat functional most times - at this stage of the game (Called Life), the Body does what it does when it wants to . . . Honestly, IMHO - "We" really don't have control of how are bodies age - no matter what Ya' do . . . Just Sayin' . . .

OH Yea - Here's that picture Ya' asked for . . .

Oh YUMMM!! That looks fantastic! At least it's proof that you enjoyed dessert!

When our daughter came here after being shut in for so long we all hugged and cried! Isn't it great to be with them again! So close, yet so far away! And we finally got to see our other 2 grandsons last weekend!

AND - I don't know how to do automatic daily back-ups to this drive . . .

That will depend on what program you use. In general, you find something like "schedule", and pick either "incremental" or "differential", and of course the destination drive, i.e. the usb one. Then just let it do it's thing.
