Are these also what is sewn into cloth tubes that are soaked and worn around your neck to help stay cool? We have a couple that we used while out for motorcycle rides in the summer.
A contractor came by and gave me an estimate for the tree removal, $1,000 for cutting down and hauling away.

Should your neighbor not have to pay that .. ??

Yeah, it's not cheap to have a tree taken down, but if you do have to pay it yourself I'd get some other quotes as well. Our daughter had to have a tree taken down and the quotes were from $900-3000.

Is the tree on your neighbors property or yours? Our cousin had a tree that was leaning and his homeowners insurance said if it fell on his neighbors property it would be the neighbors problem. Doesn't seem right to me, but homeowners insurance can be really, really weird.

Uh, and how's the roof?

Yes on getting more quotes. Maybe we have a lot more hungry wood cutters here, but a few years back I wanted 10 trees gone (fir and cottonwood), no stump removal, just down and gone. Estimates ranged widely and wildly. As in from $800 to $3000.... The guy at the low end was licensed, bonded and insured, and did a great job :)

Good morning. The summer muggies are upon us. Real Feel temp here is 97 with high humidity. Doesn't look like we'll be doing much outside today.

Just heard from our daughter. She and the family drove 5.5 hrs before stopping at a hotel for the night. They're on their way to SC for a 10 day vacation with Brian's family. Got a text from her this morning that they were up until 4:00 a.m. with the 1-1/2 year old with vomiting and fever. Oh joy. So much for the vacation. Now they'll have to pack up and drive 5-1/2 hrs back home. Hopefully nobody else will get it... What timing, nobody has been sick for 4 months.

Jerry I agree with the others. I would get at least two more estimates and make sure they are bonded and licensed…although I'm sure you already do that.

Taking down a tree is dangerous business. If the cutter is not insured and gets injured the home owner gets sued. It happened to a couple of people I know. They thought they were saving money by going with a “handyman with a saw” but it nearly bankrupted them when the guy fell off thetree and broke several bones.

Hola .. :)

So true .. you really don't want to mess with a big tree(s) .. the cost of a company maintaining the proper insurance and what not is one of the reasons the good ones are relatively high .. workman's comp, etc ..

Uh Oh. Are Homeowners Liable for Tree Care Accidents?

I was on the horn with my Aunt yesterday .. I asked her how Covid looks around Myrtle Beach .. she said 'it's blooming' .. I don't know if a postponed or cancelled Vacation may be something of a blessing in disguise ..

Darn, Janet, that's not good! Hope the little one gets over it quickly, and keeps it to themself!

Muggy here as well, but we'll not see those kinds of temps! (Although heading to the mid 80s by mid-week.)

Update: They went to Urgent Care and doc says his ears are red so he's got an infection there and gave them a script for amoxycillin. The ........ may be viral, but he definitely doesn't think it's Covid. Told her to have a nice vacation, he'll be fine. Whew! They're alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen so now you'd never know anything was wrong with the little guy. He's happy and playing. Oh to be a kid...

And yes, they're exhausted. They'll take turns driving the rest of the 4 hour drive to their destination.

Yeah, as much as I hate that you have to do it, it's probably best you wait on the visit. Bottom line is you both are in the vulnerable category so it's wise to take precautions right now.

Well, it's still morning, but barely ;)

Took a photo of my newest star in the garden ....Pagoda.....she stands about 5.5' tall, and requiresView attachment 896811 nothing but space.

Beautiful and so lush!

So, I was saying earlier that it was too hot to do anything outside. Mike decided to just cut out a couple trash saplings that sprouted up among some bushes. We thought it was sumac, but turns out those trash trees must be the Tree of Heaven that the Spotted Lantern Fly loves. There were bunches of the nymphs all over it!! I grabbed the Raid which didn't seem to bother them too much so I mixed some water, alcohol and a little Dawn in a spray bottle and soaked the critters. Surprisingly my spray seemed to be more effective. As they fell or jumped onto the concrete we stomped on them. Usually they jump so fast it's impossible to get them. Ugh! Anyway, it's like a sauna out there! Note to Mike - do this early - before your shower. All you have to do is stand still out there to work up a good sweat.

I get up when I get up, then catch up on media and caffeinate until the alarm clock alerts me to 7AM. I get dressed, eat breakfast, take the dog for a walk, get to Mass if there is time, then go to the gym. I can be back home by eleven. Except for taking walks with the dog, I am home, inside, for the rest of the day. Tomorrow morning I may add gardening to my list of morning activities. He will have to entertain himself on tieout by the garden. Predicted "feels like" at 102.

Yeah, well .. truthfully, I'm not so much worried about me .. at 90, although she appears to be a fairly robust old bird, she's got the biggest risk ..

During the last few weeks, I've just been living my life as normally as I can ..

(is that a mask in your pocket or are you just glad to see me .. ??)

Speaking of masks, they are, apparently, morphing into somewhat of a Fashion Accessory .. I had dinner at a local eatery a few days go, my Waitress, who I've known for years, was sporting one of those black, form fitting masks .. we talked off and on as she tended her area and, I must say, I had never paid attention to just how beautiful her eyes are .. ;)

I've gotten more looks recently also. I suppose covering up my ugly mug, my eyes take center stage. Funny but true. Still don't like wearing them, but trying to look at the silver lining and all that jazz.
