Good morning!

have a question...

is this joint closed down at night?!

It does seem rather quiet around here in the evenings. I'm usually watching tv, crocheting, checking on stuff on the computer etc. so it's usually with my morning coffee that I check ecf.

From the "Picking the Collective Brain" File ::

For some unknown reason, certainly not attributable to me, the keep it warm plate that my glass coffee pot sits on is developing a crust of, apparently, dried coffee residue .. I suppose some must slop out of the pot and end up on the warmer, which then evaporates it and a crust begins to form ..

I thought about taking a plastic scraper and scraping it off, then changed my mind since I thought it might damage the warming plate ..

Tips .. ??

Just be careful not to use too much liquid to clean the plate. Our coffee pot broke and coffee ran down under the plate. That was it for the coffee pot. Good thing we had an old spare in the basement. You could try just leaving a wet rag lay on the plate for an hour or so to soften what's stuck on it.

Morning, loungers.

Like others, when cooled down (and unplugged, perhaps), we just scrub ours down with a damp, not dripping, well, plastic scrubber. Think along the lines of a sponge with a scotch-brite back.

This is not a joke! For the past couple months (including about an hour ago) I keep getting recorded phone calls about our vehicle's extended warranty. I keep blocking the calls and they keep finding me!!

Hola .. :)

Thanks for the tips ..

A long time ago, Dave Bellware, aka bigbells, was a proponent of a citric acid and water mix in a spray bottle .. and, back then, I gave it a try on tile grout and what not and, voila, it worked .. I think he used it for a number of things as far as cleaning goes ..

So, last night, I sprayed the coffee machine warming plate with the solution and let it sit for about 30 minutes .. then, wiped it up with some paper towels, which got pretty black and used several sheets .. I saw the crust had been visibly reduced .. I did it again, and got more crust off ..

While the plate is not quite ready to eat off of just yet, this seems to be working .. may take another try or two, but, we'll see ..

My unit is a Keurig Duo .. which, I thought I would use the K-cup thing, but soon decided I did not like K-cups .. I also have a backup regular old Hamilton Beach that just makes coffee .. (coffee maker backup, a must have)

Good thinking to use the citric acid. I mix some up and run it through our coffee maker and Keurig once in awhile. It works and I like that I don't have to run 15 pots of water through it to get rid of any off flavor with the descaler stuff.

Yeah, I just started to get sexy texts and started looking for call blockers myself. T mobile has their own app and I'm testing a popular one called HiYa soon. I guess I'd otherwise get charged 10c a minute on my $3mth plan.

Yeah, I do the same, but I don't mix it, I just fill the water side up and put a table spoon or two of the citric in there .. then, I do it again and swab the inside before I turn it on with a bottle brush .. then, I run clean water through it ..

I also use it to clean the dishwasher .. and, if you spray a solution on any grout and let it sit for a time, it really does clean it well .. at least on a counter top ..

The Coffee Machine must be Respected .. :nun:

I don't answer any call I don't recognize. If it's important they'll leave a message. Do you still get charged if you don't answer? We text and talk a lot with our kids so we've got the unlimited coverage.

Yep, here, too. And the cartoonist must be getting them as well. That's the second panel on those lines in about 3 weeks!

Call blocking is, imo, a waste of time. Scammers don't use their real numbers (or caller ID info), just keep changing to new fake ones. Call blocking will block the ones they no longer use. My telco lets me have a few, free, but then charges for each blocked number, so I don't bother.

(coffee maker backup, a must have)

Yup. Boxed and in the stash ;)

Incredibly, but I swear true .. I got a call once from my own home land line .. it displayed as my number on the TV .. I was fully sober and straight ..

I never understood how that happened .. it was so creepy, I, of course, did not answer the phone in that I was afraid it might be me on the other end ..

I believe I do get charged. Not a huge expense, I just get overages warnings and have to go add more cash. Just a hassle.
Family, we use FB messenger for texting and Google voice for calls. I do have wifi calling enabled on my phone but it doesn't seem like it works often. Google voice is great. Can't really justify unlimited if I can use all of the wifi I pay for. Seems like paying twice.

I called one of the numbers back once and a guy answered. No, he hadn't called me and had no idea what I was talking about, but he gets those calls too. Those robocall callers use other peoples numbers so I do worry that I'm going to block someone I know.

I have "Do not disturb" set on on my phone. If the number is in my contact list, the phone rings, otherwise it doesn't. I figure if they want me they will leave a voice message. Even customers, I tell them to call my number and LEAVE A VOICEMAIL and I will get back to them ASAP. Sometimes if I am expecting a call I turn it off for a period, but then turn it back on.

I've had a couple of those as well. Seems they target areas, then pick a number and name from that area (area code and a local prefix) and use that. The thinking is that if the target sees a local number they're more likely to answer... similar to using a faked email to send malware.

And, surprise surprise, more rain :)

And there's a big loophole that makes it legal. Here's what Verizon says about it. (emphasis added is mine).
    • Caller ID spoofing is the process of changing the Caller ID to any number other than the actual calling number.
    • Caller ID spoofing happens when a caller knowingly falsifies the info transmitted to disguise the number they're calling from.
    • The number that displays on your Caller ID may look as though it's coming from a government agency, business, or even someone in your contacts list in an attempt to trick you into answering the call.
    • If the caller's intent is to defraud, cause harm or scam you into providing info you may not otherwise provide over the phone, the spoofing is illegal.
    • If no harm is intended or caused, the spoofing is not illegal. Some people may have legitimate reasons to hide their info, such as a law enforcement agency or a doctor's office.

Good morning. It's a breezy, dreary morning here. Hopefully we'll see some sun today.

Today we need to put our pencil tree in its storage bags and move it to the basement and then the nativity needs to be packed away so then Christmas will officially be over.

    72 days til Spring!!

While of course it wouldn't stand up in court, disturbing my peace of mind is harm... especially if the call is (purportedly) from myself, which might require several psychiatric visits to splice my split personality back together.
