Hola .. :(

Snowed in bad, 12" in the last 15 hours on top of what was already there, power is sporadic, roads are still bad, snowplow pile at end of driveway is a hurdle I don't know if the truck can handle .. I'm prepared for any Apocalypse, so I'll ride it out till it warms in the next few days ..

    Morning, loungers.

Dang, not good, Janet. I suppose you or Mike have checked all the circuit breakers? Hope you have enough logs and don't need to start breaking up the furniture!!

Firewood is outside where it's cold ... old furniture is in the basement ... we'll see how long I can hold off going outside.

Went out to shovel off the stoop and the walkway to the stoop .. went back in the house when I was done and experienced weird vision where everything turned blue .. The sun is bright, the snow covers everything and I did not have my shades on .. it was very strange for a couple minutes .. o_O

We woke up to water in the basement, mostly self-inflicted. We had snow (12"+), which we didn't rake off the front roof, followed by lots of rain today which ran behind the ice in the gutters, down the front of the house and into the basement window wells, which hadn't been thoroughly cleared of leaves when our red maples dropped their leaves late, nor had we put the well covers on, so there was a layer of snow and ice on top of the leaves. Not surprisingly, the window well filled with water and leaked into the basement. The water is now cleaned up, the gutter ice is knocked down, covers are on the wells, and the dehumidifier is running. We know better but it's been one of those years. Work is stressful and I'm not up to nagging the DH with a honey do list while he's doing a good job taking care of me.

Thank you Janet for the count down to spring! I'm more than ready for it.

Ugh! I don't like when that happens because there's nothing you can do until it goes away. It happens every time my eye doc uses that awful blue light to see inside my eyeballs! Fortunately it doesn't last long, but it's so weird.

Wow, it's 46 outside here and the melting is happening big time. That's a good thing because short of using a flame thrower Mike was never going to get that ice off the sidewalks. He's got a path through 2' high snow piles on the sidewalks, but there was 1" of ice still left. Too bad. Driving through our development there's a bunch of properties that never cleared their sidewalks at all.

Oh, and our heat is back. While waiting for the service guy to show up Mike got out the booklet for the heater. Basically he rebooted it by shutting it off for 5 minutes and then turning it back on. It worked! The service guy had no explanation why that happened, but he checked it out and all seems to be working just fine so I guess we're good. Sure hope so because the cold temps are coming back with a vengeance!

Oh man I jinxed myself! Woke up this morning to a 66 degree house. The heater is blowing cold air. We called for service, but don't know how many people are ahead of us. I's going down to 26 tonight so they better get someone out today! Mike got a fire going in the fireplace and we were just talking about using up the wood out in the pile.
Did you try Emergency Heat setting? If it's a heat pump. I use that solely when it's super cold for a while.

It uses the heating strips in the inside unit.

Maybe a voltage spike locked up the program, and the hard reset/reboot initialization was all that was needed. :nun:

    Good morning everyone!

Awoke to beautiful sunshine....and lotsa snow!!!

Yesterday I went out in the yard to fill the bird feeders and thought I'd drown in it...must have been about a foot of it! The day before a gracious neighbor shoveled my driveway..it was close to a foot deep...with a layer of ice on the bottom...today there's about another 6 "!

Winter arrived late..but with a vengeance!

Good morning. It's 21 out there right now going up to 30 today so all the puddles and the soggy ground is going to freeze up because it's going to stay cold for awhile. We've got a storm coming in Thurs morning that's supposed to bring us 6-10" and will end with sleet. Oh joy. So, we're going to hunker down. I made a big pot of vegetable beef barley soup and might break out the yeast to make some rolls for some burgers for dinner. Sounds like a plan for a snowy day.

No heat pump for us. We had one when we moved in and our heating bills were ridiculous. We have natural gas now.

That makes sense since the reboot fixed it. I'm glad the manual was handy so Mike could figure out what to do.

    Good morning everyone!

Our last storms did the same to us - snow with ice underneath. It makes it so hard to clear, but our temps were at 46 yesterday so a lot of that ice melted. All the icicles hanging off the gutters are gone. Now it's all freezing again. We are so lucky to have an efficient fireplace and we've got a bunch of wood that should be used up this year anyway. We can be nice and toasty inside and enjoy the snowfall until it's time to clear the driveway and sidewalks.

Crazy weather everywhere... We jumped up in to the mid 40s, all the snow is gone, and they're making noises about hitting 50 late in the week. :w00t: But still heavy snow in the mountains, where it belongs :)

Hope the fix continues to work on that furnace! Of course, no way to know for sure, but anything processor controlled can have issues, and if that's all it was, then the hard reset usually works. Cleans up any wonky bits in the program or data.

I think Janet already answered. We had a heat pump, never again ... the electric bill was sky high during the coldest parts of winter.

Wasn't just the hard reset/reboot. I tried turning the power off/on a few times and the furnace would turn on but the flame burners would not ignite. Then I turned off the gas regulator valve inside the furnace for 5 minutes. Then turned the regulator back on, then turned the power back on and ... Hooray, the furnace's burners lit up finally.

Like Janet said, the repair guy checked things over with his meters and such, but couldn't find anything faulty. Fingers and toes crossed it was just a fluke of some kind.

I was having problems with my heat pump and the service tech recommended just leaving it in emergency mode. It allows the heater to use natural gas instead of electricity. Using the heat pump in the winter is just like using the airconditioning in the summer. The cost savings using gas vice the heat pump are substantial in the winter. I know not good for the environment but I enjoy being able to eat, pay bills, and stay warm.
Still very cold and the snow is not even attempting to melt and probably won't for the next week. I take that back, they are saying Sat will be 33° and Sun 38°. Our high today will be 19° with flurries. How many days is it until Spring @Janet H?

@Uncle Willie you were looking for bargains on the Zenith tank. Saw this is another thread. I've never used this vendor and hadn't heard of them 'till I saw this post. No telling how many they have in stock. UncleJunkle was able to add 100K to his cart, and I was able to add 10K to my cart. And it accepted it. No, I didn't buy $8000 worth of Zenith tanks ... emptied the cart and left.

Artisan Vapor Co. still has the Zenith 4ml tank for $8.70. Shipping is flat rate at $8 though, so you have to buy more than one or other stuff to make it "bargain bin" worthy. No saying how many they have because I was able to put 100K in my cart. Shipping free after $50.

Good morning. The snow has been coming down hard and heavy since I got up at 6:15. There's over 1" of tiny flakes on the table on the deck - that's my snow gauge. It's hard to know what we'll end up with because it could change to sleet at any time. One post says 6-10", but we'll see. It's supposed to keep snowing until tomorrow. It looks so pretty. Just watched 10 deer strolling along the back edge of the property and our front Ring just showed 2 in the front yard.

I How many days is it until Spring @Janet H?

    Good morning!
I guess I need to get up earlier to catch anyone here:)

A neighbor was over yesterday to shovel out the app. 10 ins. of snow..he'd already shoveled out almost that much two days before...and the drive was covered with ice...and he wouldn't accept any money!
So today I'm going to attempt to make some chocolate mayo cupcakes/frosting and give him a few.

I'm so fortunate to live in this old folks community...we all look out for each other.
