Morning, misfits.

Rain. Lots of rain. About another half inch overnight, more on the schedule for tonight, although they claim it will back off a bit first. Uh huh.

Really nice doll house, Willy, but I'm afraid my wife would make me re-paper the living room ;)

It is cloudy here too and a few drops fell on me while I was walking. I was glad because I had lost track of time again. I was watching Walk the Line. I had never seen that movie but Joaquin Phoenix and Reece Witherspoon were very good. I was also reading (I can multitask) and the book was good. Next thing I knew I had walked over 5 1/2 miles. Came in a finished the movie. The first movie I have watched on regular tv in a long time. I remember now how much I love streaming and hate commercials.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Saturday.

Any advice on what to do with itching and runny eyes due to the pollen? I don't remember ever having any issues before. I don't mind the sneezing blowing my nose so much but my peepers have been driving me crazy the last week.

I am not fond of taking over-the-counter meds but I might have to whoop out the Benadryl.

I also hate commercials. I have DirecTV with TIVO receivers so I can record a program and fast forward through the commercials. I don't watch live TV unless I just must.

I saw some eye drops for allergies the other day.

I went out today and picked up some necessities. Then as I was coming home, I stopped and filled up my Jeep. As I was waiting at a traffic light, the car behind me got my attention and told me that my gas cap fell off as I was leaving the gas station. I turned around in the Walgreens parking lot and had to wait on a traffic light to go across the street to retrieve my wayward gas cap. Wouldn't ya know it was one of the last cars that ran over the cap? Even with my discount, it was $15 for a replacement gas cap at AutoZone, but this one has a pigtail on it so I won't have to worry about it anymore. That is how my day is going.

Hi, Lizards!

Whew, I am tired. My uncle (mom’s younger brother) and I went walking around my grandparents and great-grandparents’ old farms today. It is now TWRA land, so we wore orange hats to make sure we didn’t appeal to any turkey hunters that may have been lurking. We also sprayed ourselves down with bug spray first! We “tromped around the woods” (as he calls it) for almost three hours, up and down hills and over old barbed-wire fences and fallen trees. Most structures were torn down after TVA took over the land, but they managed to miss my great-grandfather’s old barn. It was built in the late 30’s/early 40’s and is still in pretty good shape. People have made off with some of the wood, but it along with an old chicken coop are still standing. It was pretty neat to see that. Most everything else was gone, nothing left but fence posts, foundations, a rock chimney or two, and filled-in wells. :( I took several pictures of the barn while we were there, before all the wood gets gone.

He is such a hoot, just a few months shy of 80. In his big clod hopper boots and Liberty overalls, he can walk the legs right off a dog. He showed me an old cemetery close to the farm that had mostly field stones as grave markers, except for a few headstones in the “newer” part. By “newer” part, I mean dates of 1890’s to 1920’s. They were sooo old they were hard to read. Some of the field stones looked like they had initials chiseled into them, but they were so weathered it was hard to tell what they were. It was so quiet and peaceful, shady with lots of ferns, red columbine, and wood violets. I could have sat there all day.

He usually rambles around those woods once every week (except when it’s super hot or freezing cold) and told me we should go again, that there’s plenty more stuff to look at (a couple old farms that were on my dad’s side of the family and a couple more old, forgotten cemeteries). I will definitely take him up on that.

I am doing laundry and trying to decide what to make for dinner. I have decided that I will enjoy the evening from the back deck, maybe with a gin and tonic.

I hope y’all are having a good Saturday!

Naomi Judd is resting in peace now. What an incredible woman. I have been watching some of her recent interviews on YouTube tonight. I knew she had been a nurse but I did not realize what an intelligent woman she was. She survived so much. It just makes me sad and makes me think of the wonderful people we have lost for whatever reason.

Whew! I need to get back to my normal crazy self. Maybe later.

I didn't hear about her passing. They had a concert coming up, I was thinking I might try to go to Nashville for it.

I can't remember where I read about them but there is a group that goes around using butcher paper and charcoal, they make a copy of the gravestones to preserve a record of the markers. Back in the early '70s my stepbrother and I were rabbit hunting in the fields of a neighbor's land and found a marker from the late 1800s. When we got home and told his dad about it, he knew nothing of the marker, and we couldn't find it again when we went out for another hunt.

I’ll never forget the writing on a gravestone I found as a young one. It rattled me.It said:
Stop gentile reader as you pass by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so you must be
Prepare for death and follow me.

We are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 but I already hear thunder now. My aunt ran over a little stump and messed up her riding lawnmower. This afternoon I took my ramps down there to take a little look-see. I have never seen a 90-degree bend in a blade before. She said it shot out part of the short stump. I told her to get the rest of it up before she got it fixed.

One blade turns easy and the other still turns but not quite as easy. I see a little gap where the blade is attached to the spindle. That could be coming from the bent blade. I hope it is not
a bent spindle. At least it was a nice day and the concrete did not singe my hind end. I hate it when that happens.

Yes, hope it's not the spindle! While not too hard to swap out, they do tend to be pricey...
I agree and that is what I told her. All she talked about tonight was zero-turn mowers. She gave away a really good John Deere because she wanted a new mower two years ago. This is a Husqvarna but not a zero-turn. Bless her heart. At 90 years old, if she wants a zero-turn, she should get one.

And you did not go out and look for it ever again? Heck, you make me want to look for it now. View attachment 973857
We did try to find it again. That field was ripe with rabbits, so it got to be a weekend thing for us. I always used my stepdad's 16ga double-barrel shotgun. My mom gave it to me when he passed on. Finding shells for it is getting to be a challenge.
My stepdad was raised on the farm, and he too tromped all over the neighboring farms.

    Hola .. :)

It's that Yard Sale time of the year, so, as is my habit, I've been hittin' 'em today .. among other things, I scored this vintage 1930's hand made doll house, real tiny brick facing / tiny shake shingle roof and about 3 feet tall without the stand .. just a wonderful piece, paid $25.00 ..

    Winning ..

OMG Willie. I would give you a lot more than $25 for this house. I have always loved miniature houses. Years ago I wanted to build one but it never happened. I only managed to build two rooms which I still have. Here is one if them. 10” W x 16” long. Everything is hand-made.

And the brick on the fireplace is coarse sandpaper painted. The various pots are made from beads, wire, bottle tops etc.
