Hola .. :)

Some weeks back, I tilled up some areas on the yard, added peat moss and a liberal amount of grass seed in an attempt to fill in some bare spots .. the rain came and all was well ..

Then, the rain tap suddenly turned off and the heat wave hit .. quickly sucking the moisture out of the soil and requiring me to {{{shudder}}}, actually water those areas .. now, I don't know what water costs where you live, but, around these parts, it's pretty durn expensive .. not to mention shlepping the sprinkler from place to place and remembering to turn it off and move it ..

So, yesterday, the Weather Prognosticators predicted an afternoon shower and I thought 'Yes, I'll get a free yard watering ..' .. so, I'm puttering around outside and the clouds begin to build, it's getting darker off to the West and I'm thinking, 'Looks good ..' ..

The rain came and lasted maybe 10 minutes .. why, oh, why I just happened to be located in what was probably the thinnest band of rain within the whole storm beats the Hell out of me ..

I suppose I should be happy and take what I can get .. however, it was not enough to prevent an inevitable Home Improvement Loan with which to pay my next water bill ..

Dissapointed ..

You should have gone out and watered those spots. Would have guaranteed you got more than 10 minutes of rain. Happens every time I water my plants or wash my windows.

Yep, that often does it. Especially if you can get others on your block to do the same. :p

It was just a quick thunderstorm and my gauge said only 1/2 inch of rain. Then the sun came out and was beautiful. I got in two walks today. It is so nice when I plan a peaceful day and it actually happens. Yay!

Hope everyone had a great start to their week.

Good morning, Lizards!

I am messing around on the internet this morning while I drink my coffee. Technically I am on the clock and should be working, but I'm stuck staying late all week (don't get paid for it because I'm "salaried") so it's only fair I waste a little company time.

I have been so busy the last week or so...I wish I had more to show for it. Got some stuff done around the house, but not nearly as much as I need to do. Got some yard work and house work done at mom's, but again, not as much as I needed to. Work has been a circus, as usual. Sometimes I feel like a hamster, running my tail off on a wheel, and not getting anywhere.

Over the last week or so, we've had a new visitor coming around. She is a big, floofy, affectionate rag doll kitty. We found out that she belongs to our neighbor. He said her name is Kiki, and she's in indoor/outdoor pet. But, I've never seen her before in the last six months or so that they've been living there. It's almost like they just turned her out all of the sudden. Hubs has been off work with his shoulder, so he and Kiki have become buddies.

I am going to ask the neighbor this evening if he minds me giving her some flea meds. I don't want to come across as a "Karen", but that poor cat is covered in fleas and SO itchy, I feel horrible for her. I am about to buy more flea meds for my own cat, so I would be happy to get an extra dose for Kiki. Hopefully he won't get offended. I'm not trying to judge, I just feel bad for the cat. I will also feel bad for ME if my house gets infested with fleas! She hangs out in the shade on our back deck a lot, which happens to be where we usually come in/out of the house. They could easily hop through the door and make themselves at home, which would be awful.

Also, while I'm rambling, I wonder how the name "Karen" became assigned to particularly obnoxious women? I know several ladies named Karen, and they have all been lovely people. I guess someone just threw the name against the wall and it stuck? o_O

Also, I can't believe I just paid $4.39/gallon for gas - and that was at Costco, where it tends to be cheaper than other places! There are many reasons I hate my job, but having a long-ish commute and needing to fill up twice a week at these prices is a BIG reason right now. :-x

When I was working as a corporate trainer, we were salaried, and overtime was a constant. Our manager knew of the overtime and allowed us to use 1 1/2 off when we were not in class. So, if we had 4 hours of overtime, we took off 6 hours as compensation. I usually let mine build up so I could take off a full day and have a long weekend.

I would suggest that you also get some treatment for outside your house where the cat hangs out.

Morning, misfits.

Dang, looks like we might have some sun today, but gone again tomorrow. Maybe the grass will dry enough to be cut. Or not.

Um, "Karen", from Wiki: Karen (slang) - Wikipedia

For the term "Karen", several possible origins have been proposed.[10] Early uses of Karen as a joke punchline include the airheaded character Karen (played by Amanda Seyfried) from the 2004 film Mean Girls, Dane Cook's 2005 sketch "The Friend Nobody Likes" on his album Retaliation,[11] and a 2016 Internet meme regarding a woman in an ad for the Nintendo Switch console who exhibits antisocial behavior and is given the nickname "antisocial Karen".[12][13] In December 2017, Karen memes regarding entitled women went viral on Reddit, the earliest being from user karmacop9, who ranted about his ex-wife Karen. The posts led to the creation of the subreddit r/....YouKaren, containing memes about the posts, and inspiring spinoffs including r/karen and r/EntitledKarens dedicated to criticizing Karens.[11][12]

A more pointed explanation, which involves race, is the expression originates among black people to refer to unreasonable white women.[7][14] The term was popularized on black Twitter as a meme used to describe white women who "tattle on black kids' lemonade stands"[7] or who unleash the "violent history of white womanhood".[15] ..... magazine described Karen as a term that originated with black women but was co-opted by white men.[16]

Wow, that sounds fantastic! I work for a small office that has five people here. Two of the guys travel a lot (our sales guy, and our boss (who also happens to do sales). That leaves me here to hold the fort down with the warehouse and office. Technically I'm a supervisor, and am allowed a few more hours of PTO than regular employees. Unfortunately, we have a lot of turnover, and most of the time, I have to fill in the gaps when employees leave and do training for new hires, so I never get around to using those extra hours (or my regular hours, for that matter). Company policy is "use it or lose it", so I can't cash them in if not used. It really sucks. I've been dealing with this for 12 of the 16 years I've been here, and quite honestly, I'm beyond burned out.

I had thought about treating the outside for fleas, also. It certainly wouldn't hurt to spray the deck and patio furniture down, and get our door mat, too. Can't be too careful! If it happens to kill the carpenter bees, that would be an added bonus...those things are everywhere out there.

WOW, ask and ye shall receive!

I don't think I've ever seen Mean Girls...if I have, it's not ringing a bell. I also had no clue about the more racial aspect of the origin. There are certainly plenty of racists and entitled jerks to go around these days. :( I try to remember there is also a lot of good stuff going on in the world, but we're not bombarded with it like we are "bad news", especially in social media. I guess good things don't get as many ratings!

Hola .. :(

This AM, we here in Fly Over Country are hitting $4.89.9 .. I'm starting a pool on gas reaching $5.00 + by Memorial Day .. I think it's a slam dunk ..

My truck gets 16 MPG in town .. so, in addition to the Home Improvement Loan I will need with which to pay my next Water Bill, I will need to pad the loan some in order to be able to drive ..

As an addendum, last January, I thought 'Hey, this Social Security raise is nice ..' .. currently, as of now, my stance is 'Where's the beef .. ?? .. since it sure ain't in my freezer ..

Just to be clear, this is the actual origination .. and, I could not agree more .. also, there is no actual Black Twitter .. it is simply a community within Twitter .. :)
