Well, I am now. To get my AC working right it cost just under $250. The freon was fine it was some kind of 40 AMP converter. The service call was $99 and the part was $145. I got into the wrong business.Hope everyone is stayin' cool!
Bless your heart. Thank goodness it was a replaceable part and a new unit was not needed. This o'l girl can do without a lot of things but A/C is not one of them.Well, I am now. I love it.Hola ..
Some of you may remember that last August I made the pilgrimage to Myrtle Beach to connect with my Aunt Anita and other family members that had been lost to me since I was 4 years old and of which, I had no memories of .. the story is long and convoluted, so I'm not going back into that ..
As I was in Myrtle Beach, I spent the better part of a day on the 'strip', visiting various things, browsing shops, people watching, etc .. as my Auntie is 91 now, she had no inclination to join me and the other Cousins / Spouses had other plans .. they wanted to lay out on the beach, go figure ..
At any rate, I wanted something to take back with me as a souvenir, and not really something kitschy or cheesy .. no small feat in a Tourist Town .. finally, I was drawn to a cast iron Mermaid wall decoration that did not cost a ton, so I bought it ..
As I prepared to leave Myrtle Beach at the end of my stay, my Auntie hands me a large glass jar full of shell fragments and says, 'I picked these up myself years ago over time and they all have a purple color in them somewhere .. take them and think of me' .. so, although I appreciated the gesture, I thought it was kind of odd, but oh, well ..
The cast iron Mermaid ended up sitting on a shelf in my garage, since I could never figure out where I wanted to hang it and it really did not go with much of anything in my Modern Decor scheme .. the jar of shell fragments sat on my kitchen counter, so every time I saw it, I thought of Anita ..
Flash forward to about a week ago .. I was digging thru my wood storage shed (yes, it's a wood shed and it stores, er, wood) looking for an interesting piece of wood that I could use for a guitar body .. as I was digging, I found a stack of live edge wood tree trunk slabs that I, many years ago, stashed after I went thru a time where I was making wall clocks out of these things as a side hustle .. they had to be sitting there for at least 20 years or more .. very, very well dried ..
So, I sat on a stack of wood and started looking at each of those slabs, trying to remember where it came from, what kind of wood it was, etc .. when suddenly, I had a brain flash ..
At the end of it all, I selected an appropriately sized piece, sanded / sealed / and prepped it .. you will see the results in the below photos (if ECF gets them to post)
After it was all said and done, I texted one of my Cousins (the retired NYPD officer) a couple photos and called him to tell him the story .. turns out, Anita picked those off the beach at Fire Island, the barrier island off Long Island, back in the 1960's when she owned a Bodega in Harlem .. I had figured that the shells had come from Myrtle Beach, but Fire Island made them even more special to me .. and, after nosing around Mr/Ms Google, I discovered that these were shaped by waves over the years and were once used as wampum by the Native American populace ..
I am going to hang this on my deck in a spot where, whenever I am out there taking a vape, listening to my outdoor stereo and having a beer or three and / or some 'substance', it will be within my immediate sight ..

I prefer 'environmentally aware' lol.On a side note :: I never actually had to chain saw those tree trunk slabs back in the day .. if a tree was being cut down and I knew it was hardwood, I'd pull in and ask the tree guys if they would slab me off a few pieces about 2-3" thick from a log I found to be interesting .. then, let them dry ..
Well, you all know I'm a cheapskate .... although, I prefer, frugal ..

The tech did a full service on the system. One thing he told and showed me was that the motor bearings are showing wear. That motor is not a low-cost item. I will keep that in mind I might do a bit of shopping around. Oh well, it is what it is,Bless your heart. Thank goodness it was a replaceable part and a new unit was not needed.
