On hearing ::

Many, many years on the road in loud music venues, well before hearing protection became a thing, combined with my time in the Army and, er, some generally loud noise then, ended up eventually giving me a fairly acute case of tinnitus .. IOW, at all times, other than sleeping, I hear a high frequency noise in my ears .. not much of anything can be done about it, so you just learn to live with it ..

It's around that 14kHz mark, so when I would engineer, I always had to compensate .. oddly, using headphones at a good volume, listening to music at loud volume, etc, makes it temporarily go away ..

Along with hearing loss, this affliction is fairly common within groups of the populace with a similar background ..

Go figure ..

I think you're lucky you don't have it worse! We're going to have a plethora of future hearing problems as the young guys drive around in cars with the music blasting so loud that my bones are vibrating 2 cars away.

I've got a constant high pitched tone that my hearing aids seem to help. It's just something I've learned to live with.

Starting to get hot again here. Took a nice walk but I am going to have to tell you those new earbuds are not good when you are eating shredded wheat. My gosh, I could not believe how noisy I was. I got on my own reserve nerve. View attachment 976608

I doubt there is anyone here that does not have a Samsclub membership but just thought if you know someone, they are having an $8 new membership sale going on thru the 26th of June. That's a darn good deal.

Don't have a Sam's around here. We've got BJ's and Costco. Sams seems like a great deal.

Question .. ??

Do those dryer balls really work .. ?? Will they eliminate the need for fabric softener / dryer sheets and the associated chemical load that come with them .. ??

I've got 8 of them in my dryer (4 from my daughter who'd had it with picking the balls up off the floor) My dryer door opens from the top edge (as well as the side) and I fold clothes as I take them out so I don't have that problem. Haven't used dryer sheets in 2 years because these seem to work just fine. I do miss saving the old dryer sheets to use over the holes in the bottom of my flower pots though. And they can be re-used.

I quit using dryer sheets when a friend that works on them said they were the worst thing on your dryer. Something about a film it put on sensors. He said my dryer would last longer and dry more efficiently if I did not use them.

I have thought about the dryer balls and may try them. I will try the ones at the dollar store first though.

This is just another little personal tip from the resident rat but if you want to cut down the amount of drying time (which saves money on electricity) throw a dry hand towel or two in with your wet clothes. You can google it but what it does is absorbs the moisture from the wet clothes making them dry quicker. Makes sense.

I've gotten interested in a new series on FX, The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow.
Believe it or not, I saw that advertised in an email and I put it on my favorites to watch. I have always liked Jeff Bridges. With or without the beard. heehee

Thanks once again for the excellent recommendations.

Just remembered something else, that guy also said that the dry sheet stopped up the fine mesh filter on the lint trap and that was not a good thing either. He said those could be cleaned but I never did it. I just stopped using sheets. Okay, that's all I will run on about dryer sheets. heehee unnamed.gif

I have tennis balls, work well. I also have some silicone balls with spikes for my micro-fiber towels/cloths, work well.

Yes, they do, and we're also in the tennis ball camp :)

And also yes, film. Not just "what does that do to us?" but what about it all leaching into our water??

dd and 4 yo gd have covid (I live with them). My daughter is fully vaccinated and she is so sick. Scary times, still.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that and I hope she gets to feeling better real soon. I would probably be spraying Lysol pretty liberally but just because they have it, it does not mean that you will.

I have a friend that just had it and her husband did not get it thank goodness. Sending good thoughts your way.

Regardless of what you may think of the product, I still see this as a blow to our shared industry .. personally, I liked then, although too expensive, I did try them when they were practically giving them away ::

I haven't used any of the disposable e-cigs. The main reason was the cost and Juul was the most expences.

It just seems to me, that the use of dryer sheets / fabric softener somehow kills the absorbency of most fabrics .. when I wash dish rags / micro fiber cloths I use at the workshop, towels, etc, they just seem like they have a coating on them .. I don't like it so I'm looking for an alternative ..

Ordered these just now ::

Woolite 2 Pack Dryer Balls, 2.5 inches, Assorted : Health & Household (amazon.com)
I've used the dryer balls for the last couple of years, and I still use the liquid fabric softener in the washer. I find that they do pretty well at keeping wrinkles out of my things.

Fabric softener caused my shop towels to be less absorbent and they streaked my windows.

I've also heard that it will cause loss of insulating properties of winter clothing.

All this laundry talk reminds me of how much I miss my clothesline and the smell of my clean sheets. Nothing can compare with that fresh smell. Dad took the lines off our clothesline because of mowing. He would have taken them down when my mother passed away if he had not used so much cement.

He has asked me to dig them up a couple of times but I refuse to. I may dig them up when I relocate because I still remember him welding them and the rocks he used in that cement. He paid me 10 cents a bucket and I spent many hours walking around my grandfather's garden picking those damn rocks up.

Grrrr He's not getting any chocolate pudding today!

Although temps have mellowed somewhat and the humidity is tolerable, it's just another lull in the Summer Season .. sadly, the Weather Prognosticators are not predicting any rain for at least 10 days ..

I take comfort in the fact that they don't ever bat 1000 ..

I got some JUUL's at a Circle K for dirt money at one point when a promo was on .. otherwise, I would not have shelled out the coin ..

I'll tell you one thing, they sure gave me a head rush .. like back in the old days of that first cig of the day ..
