Meet Me in St Louie Louie
I wish I could type a bit better. My health has not been the best this last week. Let me try to get this right. I got up Sunday morning and I had no use of my right hand. First It wasn't a stroke. The doctor said it is Ulnar Nerve Palsy. During this I also broke my glasses. I made an appt. for 11:30 yesterday. My friend was supposed to be here at 11:00 to pick me up. I had the alarm so I would be awake. Well, that didn't go as planned. I woke up and there was an OCDP standing next to me calling my name. My friends had been trying to wake me for the past 45 minutes. I was able to reschedule my appt. and now I have new glasses. My right hand still looks like a claw. I'll see about that next week.
It now looks like I'll be selling out here in Oklahoma City and moving closer to family. I have a daughter in NE Oklahoma and sisters in Oregon. Now I need to decide which it will be.

Jerry, I had to read your post a couple times just to digest it ..

Very, very saddening ..

Hubs is still off work from his shoulder surgery, and has been going nuts because he’s stuck at home, especially now that he’s starting to feel better. He tinkered around with the boat last week, as it hadn’t been running that well last couple times we used it. He decided last night that he wanted to take it to the lake today and see if he’d resolved the throttle issues. I told him we’d have to go early and leave early before it got scorching hot. We didn’t get started as early as I’d hoped, be we managed almost three hours on the water before it started to get miserable. He didn’t fish much because casting is still a bit iffy with the shoulder, so he manned the trolling motor and let me have at it. I caught a crappie, some redears, and a bluegill. As warm as the water was, I was tickled to catch anything at all.

We spent several minutes watching a young raccoon at the shoreline. We were back in a cove where there was a section of shallow water over flat rocks. He was in the water, and would dig around under the rocks. I think he found a crawfish or two, then would mosey a little further along, then do it again. He finally ended up behind some fallen trees/brush and we couldn’t see him anymore. I told Hubs I was glad we didn’t have to depend on eating what we caught today or we’d have starved.

I guess his tinkering paid off, because the motor ran a lot better. It’s still hard to get started that first time, but once it got going, it ran great. It’s an old, slightly beat-up Stratos but it still has plenty of life in it.

There weren’t a lot of folks on the water, in boats OR jet skis. I guess we were were the only ones silly enough to get out in the heat. It wore me out, and I had to have a little nap after we got back. I sure can’t take the heat like I used to, that’s for sure! I hope all of you are staying cool and having a good weekend

Good morning. 68 outside this morning, going up to 97. Not a good day to work outside and I really feel sorry for anyone with outside jobs - roofers, road crews etc.

Today we need to put the bird feeders up on the deck railing and rearrange the plants we'd pushed to the side while we painted. That should be all we do outside. There's plenty to do inside though. You don't realize how much stuff there is to pack up until you start packing it up!

@LovesButtercups That sounds like a lovely day! It's so peaceful out on the water. Glad to hear that your hubs is improving. At our age it takes so much longer to heal. The good news is that he accomplished something by getting the Stratos working better. Check that off the list of things to do.

Our Phillies baseball team is supposed to play the Cubs at noon today. Good grief, it's going to 97 degrees and it's hotter down on the field. Has a game ever been cancelled a game due to heat? Maybe they should ditch the uniforms and just play in shorts! Guess they'd have to have some special rules about sliding into bases...

My goodness! I haven’t lurked here in a while (my heart issues keep kicking my ....) and so much has happened.

@Janet H and @MikeE3 I feel for you. Moving to Florida was a dream come true but selling our 100yr-old house and its 48 acres was incredibly difficult. However if our son hadn’t died and/or had grandbabies we would have stayed put.

@Diver9543 It sounds like a good decision to move closer to family…someone to help out when you need them. Can anything be done for your hand? It’s nice that you do have family to turn too.

@Rat2chat2 can you talk to your family about your problems? I hope you can get some help and feel better soon.

I thought of all you coffee drinkers here when I saw this.

I'll call it the Work, Dunk, Repeat method of getting anything done around here in this heat.
That's the way to do it!

The flip side of that is we'll be making new memories. I grew up without grandparents so it's important to me to be a part of our grandson's lives. When we're gone I want them to have fond memories of Nana and Pop Pop.
As much as you'll miss your old place, this is a wonderful opportunity to start a fresh new life with your family.
I wish I could type a bit better. My health has not been the best this last week.
Sending healing vibes your way. I'm just glad someone was there to help you!

I've been living with my daughter and her family for quite some time. It's wonderful to be amongst family. I deeply appreciate it.

Morning, bohemians,

Uh, not me, Mike ;) And N/S routes are odd numbers, E/W are even. Applies to State highways as well. (Although, of course, local conditions can mean that a stretch of any road might briefly be not in the prescribed direction.)

Silly weather guessers keep turning the thermostat up...

Good morning. It's 70 and humid out there this morning, going up to 82 so not bad at all. Anything lower than the 90s we had last week feels great!

On the ant front: I mixed some borax with honey and left a tiny cup of it on the counter. The next morning there were tons of ants going at it. Eeeeew! But I left it alone so they could eat their fill and return to their nest. By the 2nd day they were gone BUT now there were the bigger ants running around on the counter. This is day 2 for them and this morning - no ants. This stuff really works, but you have to put up with that first day of them swarming to eat the poison.

Mike went out on the deck at dinnertime yesterday and a young squirrel was sitting on the railing and it STARTED SCREAMING AT HIM! How dare that human come onto "his" deck! OK, that's unacceptable. I did my elephant stomp while I screamed at him and he finally left. Brazen little rodent. I'm a lot bigger than he is!

Morning, all.

Not even a whiff of moisture, mid 80s yesterday, mid 90s the rest of the week. Yep, summer.

Brazen little rodent. I'm a lot bigger than he is!

And a good thing they've not figured out how to work as a team!! :w00t:

Yep, and a deluge like that does very little to break any drought conditions. It all just runs off, not down... into the dirt and eventually the aquifer, where we really need it.

Well, yeah, unless you live in a bowl ..

Since I live on a hill, I don't expect much saturation, but I'll take what I can get ..

My grass is so crispy and turning brown I finally broke down and started watering it 2 nights ago. The front yard will be finished tonight. I do it in 3 sections. Then tomorrow I work on the pool area, then the back yard. Then start all over again on the front yard. We don't have enough water pressure to run more than one sprinkler at a time, so it's an endless cycle once I start.

I ignored watering in the worst part of the summer one year and paid the price. I had a crew come in and reseed and top dress in the fall to get my grass back.

Boy did there eyes light up with $ signs when they saw the 3+ acres. I shut that down fast and told them I only do around the house and the pool area. Might be about 3/4 of an acre that they did.

Good morning. Boy is it muggy outside. Looks like it's going to rain any second, but we're not supposed to get any rain until maybe overnight tonight. We'd be happy to take some of that rain off your hands in St. Louis. I was thinking about you Willie and wondering how you were making out. Glad to hear you're above the water line. We've been lucky to be above it here too when we have flooding. Just have to be careful if we have to go out anywhere.
