Hola .. :)

I guess we're on the same page, Frannie .. I hit the yard sales and then an auction later in the day .. didn't buy anything ..

Mike and I used to go to estate auctions frequently, but haven't gone in years. We still use some of the things we got at them. My problem with yard sales is that I'm so uncomfortable dickering about the price. Who knows why, but I find auctions to be exciting. They just take a lot longer.

I've been away from the lounge for a few days. Time to check back in. We have a home inspection first thing Monday morning. So the last few days have been busy doing things I've put off for years and some things that just needed to be done before professional home inspectors show up.

Replaced all the 1st and 2nd floor smoke detectors with smoke / carbon monoxide alarms. The old alarms are now in my garage (who the heck can hear that if it goes off), two in my basement, one by the stairway and one on the other side of the basement by the furnace. Even have a smoke detector in my shop now.

Re-grouted some areas of the tiles kitchen floor

GFI's installed on either side of the kitchen sink outlets. And I didn't even know that made GFI switches. Got one of those put in too.

Oh and GFI protected the runs in the garage. Luckily you can put one at the beginning of the run and there rest of the outlets down line are also protect.

Oh, David ... I fought and wrestled for quite awhile to pull back on it self and get a big bend in the hugh line with the orange tape at the end. It's now out of site above the dropped ceiling tiles.

More sort of electrical work. I had run wire to a number of new receptacles in the basement, shop and garage. They all had about 8 inches of 14-2 or 12-2 wire sticking out of the open faced box. They were never connected to the breaker box because I never got around to upgrading the breaker box to 200 amp service with more 'slots' for breakers. Any was I stripped all these and put wire nuts on the ends of the white and black wire, stuffed them back into the box and put on solid cover plates. Looks a lot better then lots of wires just sticking out of the walls here and there.

And as little time as possible in the hot attic. We used to have an attic fan. There's a switch in one of the upstairs bedrooms that controlled it. Well when we put a new roof on many, many moons ago we took it out and used a full roof vent instead. Well the wires were just snipped off and capped with wire nuts and left there. So I put then into a small utility metal box. Doubt if the inspectors are going to walk to the middle of my attic. That's the only way they would have been seen. But you just never know. The inspector to looks Kate's first house over was pretty damn thorough. Even brought his own ladders to get up onto the roof.

My body is worn out. Lots of up and down the step ladder. Lots of kneeling down and getting up while to the electric boxes. My bones and muscles were starting to complain today.

But I think I'm finally done what I wanted to get done before the inspection. No work tomorrow. Sunday will be a day of rest and recoperation.

Yes, it probably should be in a box, although from the pic that might not be realistic. Yep, breaker off, make a note about where the cable ends, to save the next owner the mystery.

Yep it probably should be. Too bad for know. Hopefully the inspectors wont's try following it to it's end point.

Sorry I don’t post much but I try to keep up with you all. The truth is it's been a very rough past 6 months. Started with a second cardiac ablation with complications that turned a day surgery into a 3-day hospital stay and a 3-4 month full recuperation ......

Oh my goodness Bea, sorry to hear the trials and tribulations life has put you through these last months. Prays and good thoughts coming your way.

... re: UW frying bologna ...

I haven't has that in years. My father used to make that for us as a treat. He hated SPAM and spaghetti ... neither was ever in the house. He said he has too much of that stuff when his was in the Army in Germany. Particularly the watered down sauce for the noodles and no meat balls to be found.

I don't know where/when I picked up a fondness for SPAM. I do like me some SPAM and geez oh man .. I haven't had any in over a year what with this constant dieting Janet and I are still doing.

Hola .. :)
I think we all know that ECF will never return to its hey day .. when things were poppin' .. then, to compound the problem, The Lounge area has always been kind of a hidden sub-section, which may not even be indexed by Mr/Ms Google ..

That's life for now, yet I remain optimistic ..

Had to drop back in briefly, I too thought the lounge was hidden. Not so. This is classwife's answer to that I just saw in another thread that in the lounge. They were asking if "they were asking if they were visible"

Sorry for being so late...been taking car of DH - he fell.

Lounge is visible not logged in, Outside is not.

@Bea-FL

It's not an orchid but maybe it'll brighten up your day a bit.

Morning, all.

Another summer day here, although the claim is we'll stay below 90.

Actually, a GFCI device anywhere on the circuit will protect it all. Can be a breaker or outlet. That's about the best I could think of for that cable. Getting the other stuff into boxes with blank covers is good. :thumb: Exposed wires a no-no.

Good evening lounge lizards.

Spent the afternoon at a 'Celebration of Life' for an old friend. He and I spent years together as Scout Leaders. Lost count of how many boys we coached and encouraged to get their Eagle Badge. Jim came to 'our Boy Scout Troop' after being a Cub Master for a number of years. He built that Cub Pack to over 75 boys.

Everyone 'loved' Mr. S. (his nickname, last name Strawkowki). He eventually took over from me as Troop Leader for the Boy Scout Troop. When a number of the boys reached the 'fume years (gasoline and perfume) their interest in Scouting was dropping off. So Mr. S. started a co-ed Explorer group and encouraged the boys to get their girl friends involved. OMG, we had to take rounds throughout the night to do tent checks to insure no hanky panky and tent hopping was taking place. It did keep most of the boys involved in Scouting 'till mandatory retirement age at 18.

Some of the most fun times were spent with Jim and the Scouts that I've ever had. We camped once a month year round regardless of the weather. One of the really great times was when we rented two house boats and motored around the Canadian Redeau Lakes. The lakes are connected via Locks and Canals. We all were amazed going through the Locks, that's a unique experience.

Here's some pictures courtesey of Mr Google Images.

Hey, Lizards!

The last couple weeks have been super busy. Work has been a nightmare and I’ve been trying to get things done and sorted before we go on vacation. Of course, Murphy’s Law had to have a say in the matter. Mom was planning on feeding the cats and getting the mail while we’re gone, but today her car refused to start. It tries, but it just won’t fire up. Rather than trying to find a rental on short notice, I left my car with her and we’ll take Hubs’ car on vacation. I am glad we had the option, but I’d have rather rented a car. His car is NOT comfortable to ride in. It sits low to the ground so it’s hard for me to get in and out of it, and you can’t enjoy the scenery as well. I’m glad the gas prices have come down because it takes premium gas! I’ll be nervous when it’s my turn to drive because that car is his BABY. Oh well, can’t win ‘em all, I suppose. At least I got the house clean and all the laundry done and put away…I hate coming home to a messy house.

We’re heading out for the beach early tomorrow morning. I think there are rain chances all week, but that’s ok. The condo we rented has a big balcony that we can hang out on as long as it’s not storming. If my boss calls, it better be because he’s firing me. At least then maybe we could stay a few more days

I hope you all have a good evening!

Too much arguing in this house to stay asleep. Arguing over money.

I think I'm going to ask my brother for my old job back. That should solve the money issues. Besides, I need to make a commitment to do SOMETHING to get my .... out of this house more regularly.

I'm currently reading 'A History of Histories' and 'Beowulf: A New Translation'.

ETA: It censored me!

Morning, all.

More hot and dry here, the weather guess is stuck on replay again... did get the random sprigs of grass (and dandelions!) shorter yesterday before it got too hot. Still need to address the edging around all the garden beds, and, well, the other half of the "north 40", which gets whacked about twice a year.

Of course, Murphy’s Law had to have a say in the matter.

Murphy was an optimist.

Well this was an interesting morning. At 9:30 the inspectors and prospective buyers were at the door to inspect the house. We left to go to breakfast, but several of the places we went to were closed on Mondays or had closed up shop completely. We ended up in a greasy spoon that is always swamped. Amazing how they pack the people in there. Breakfast was ok, generous amount and cheap so it wasn't a total loss.

It was such a weird feeling to leave strangers in our house to poke around everything while we weren't home. Our Ring kept going off so we could see people coming and going from the front door. We have what looks like little land mines around for the radon test. We figure if they do find something that causes the buyers to back out we're positioned well to list it as originally planned.

@clnire How are you doing? This sounds really strange to say, but I hope your groin is healing up for you. Hopefully you're feeling better in general too.

@Bea-FL It's so frustrating to have to jump through all the hoops before doing what you wanted to do in the first place, but maybe docs were doing unnecessary pace makers way too often. Hopefully you're on the mend enough to not need one and you're feeling your strength returning.

Hola ..

C-Ration spaghetti was likely the most hated of the C-Rations when I was in .. we were still given WWII stock that was dated in the 1940's and did live to tell the tale .. at least, I did .. it was like a lotto, you'd get a box with the food and misc in it and did not know what the 'main course' was until you opened it .. and don't even get me started on if you had to eat it cold ..

On the brightside, there was always a tiny pack of cigarettes in each box .. you had to smoke them fast because, man, they were dry and stale ..

I'm about 50 pages into Karen Maitland’s 'Company of Liars' .. as with most new books and authors I've never read before, it takes a few pages to kind of get into the style, however, I am now firmly moving along and it is quite gripping ..

Medieval fiction based on the Plague Pandemic in Europe / 14th Century .. may sound a little dry, but it's anything but ..
I’ll keep that in mind. Picked up 8 yard sale books over the weekend.
