Willie, I'm certain your efforts will be greatly appreciated. Much more so than any recorded song. Kudos to you!

Hey all. Yesterday was another busy day in the attic. I have one small corner gone through. It is taking a really long time because I took extra time to read letters, diaries, calendars, etc.

It made me nostalgic and at times quite sad. I have found things that I have never seen also. That's pretty cool. For example, I was young when my father was shot at (he was a policeman, I think I told y'all that, not sure)

Well, anyway, I found the newspaper article that had his picture and what happened. It said the bullet missed wounding him by a fraction of an inch, which it did. He was a plainclothes detective. The bullet went through his lapel and out of the necktie. The tie is somewhere around here but I can't remember if it was the top or bottom flap of his tie. I am sure either one was a little too close for his liking. View attachment 996270 View attachment 996271 I don't know if y'all can read that but you can tell he was young in the picture.

Gosh, I could tell y'all some crazy stories about him as a policeman. I miss taking him out to the police club because I loved listening to all those o'l farts tell their stories. They could remember job-related stories better than they could what they had for supper the night before. View attachment 996270

I found a picture of my grandmother and her high school memory book that she never really finished. She was voted the most bashful in her senior class. I thought that was cute.

Oh well, I will not post pics of everything I find but just thought I'd share a little bit. I have only just begun and it is overwhelming, to say the least. I will take it one day at a time. (until I get tired and then I'm just gonna toss every like a wild woman) heehee

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday.

Good beautiful morning! Going up to 77 here today with partly cloudy skies. It's lovely to sit on the patio with my coffee on these type of mornings.

@Rat2chat2 Sounds like you've got quite a lot of cleaning out to do. Wow, your grandmother was beautiful. And what a horrible scare for your Dad!

You're right, one day at a time, one little section at a time. Before you know it, it'll all be cleaned out. It's not like you have a deadline to meet so enjoy the trips down memory lane.

I know you are right and it is a special time but dang, I am ready to git-r-done and start having fun! That sounds so selfish of me but my newfound freedom has put me in a different frame of mind. And I like it!

I am enjoying my cup of coffee on my back porch. The sun is peeking through but the rain will be here soon. I need to get back to the gym but I have just been feeling too bad. I am hoping I will be better real soon. I cannot even remember if I told you the doctor decided to go with my recommendation so she placed me back on the 120mg. I still cannot believe with my chart she even attempted to put me on 30mg. Sheesh! As I have gotten older, I have lost faith in much of the medical profession. But I am going to be okay.
    RatYes.gif

Dan started his 1200-mile trek this morning. With just the short trip I took (300 miles), I am pretty sure I could not be in that profession. But I sure am glad there are people who do. Even before Dan, I have always appreciated what the trucking industry does for everyone. What would the world be like without farmers and truckers? Sad. That's what it would be.

I have gotten 2 quotes on a new roof. It has to be done, but I hate spending that much money. It would not have bothered me as much if I could have talked Dad into getting it done. I am just grateful that I have the money right now to get it done. Thank you, Dad. You are still taking care of me.

I do believe it will help with the resale of this house.

The sun quit peeking and the rain predicted has begun.

I better get up in that attic before my book and bed call my name so loud that I can't refuse.

    Morning, all.

Seems the weather guessers got it right, mid 60s! for a couple days, but heading to the low 80s for next weekend. Yup, time to weed whack before it gets hot :)

taking a really long time because I took extra time to read letters, diaries, calendars, etc.

No doubt a lot of memories there. And, as you mention, new stuff as well :)

have lost faith in much of the medical profession. But I am going to be okay.

I think they just got a new drug to try out, doesn't matter that the old one with the old dosage was working, gotta try the new...

In addition to the forthcoming heatwave, it's been bone dry the last couple weeks .. my lawn was so nice and lush, and now, you can see the lack of rain taking it's toll ..

Humidity levels have been in the teens, requiring that I diligently water my deck and stoop plants, as well as regularly filling up the fountain ..

Oh well, I guess the good news is mowing may come to a slow crawl ..

My dog has turned into a spoiled little (well, you get the idea) .. I take full responsibility .. she jumped up on my lap and attempted to snag a piece of chicken right off my fork .. I have no doubt I could feed her part of my meal using a fork .. it all started when I bought a case of those fancy dog food meals that come in a tiny can .. she did not want to eat the 'regular' dog food after that ..

Sigh .. I'd forgot how a dog provides unconditional Love, but, it is a redeeming quality that can cause an owner to overlook other perceived flaws ..

My aunt's foot looks much better. Went down there this morning and told her to leave the bandage off for a little bit since it looked good. After supper, I went back down there and bandaged it up for the night. I am pleased that it is healing nicely and no sign of infection.

Got another quote for a roof and it was right much cheaper than the first one. I am waiting for one more quote. If they don't get in touch soon, I will pick another one. There are so many roofers around here with good reviews. I just always feel better if I get 3 quotes and compare them.

I really had planned on getting back up in the attic yesterday. It was more emotional than I expected so I gave it a rest today and will get back to it soon. I think the rain was messing with me too. I had 4 inches in the rain gauge. Sheesh! Enough is enough.

Gotta run to the bank and grocery store. I may even try to go to the gym. I have been doing so bad lately but I am already feeling some better after 4 days of the right dosage of thyroid meds. I was not near as cold today as I have been which is a good thing. My knee sure has enjoyed the hiatus it has been on.

It has been weird here lately. The man I used to live beside was killed in a highway car accident last week and the this week, my neighbor passed. A couple of weeks ago she was just fine and then her liver started failing all of a sudden. They could not find anything wrong with her. Our hospital here sent her to Duke Medical and I just knew they would be able to find out what was wrong. I was sad to hear she did not make it.

Everything lately keeps reminding me that life is precious and so very short. I realize I am getting to the age that I will have more and more things like this happening but it does mean I have to like it. I have so much time to make up for so I need to git-r-done.

I checked my rain gauge today and I had 4 inches. Enough is enough. My clover is quite tall. Hope it drys out quickly and I hope I get to it before my aunt refuses to listen to me again. heehee

Still running below norm, for a couple more days. No rain. Did get the critical whacking done, north 40 can wait.

I have no doubt I could feed her part of my meal using a fork ..

Good morning. It's a beautiful morning here even if it is a bit hazy. 55 now going up to 80.

We spent a couple hours yesterday at the new house with a carpet guy and a handiman. Now we wait for quotes. We also found out a Use and Occupancy permit was needed which is the responsibility of the seller. It was scheduled for 6/2, but looks like they did it already. Both bathrooms need the fan to vent outside the house, but there was a permit # making it look like it was approved. Not sure what that means. Waiting for the realtor to get back to me with an answer.

When we left the house we were feeling more comfortable that we made the right decision to buy this house. It's smaller than the house we sold so now we're going to have to figure out how to cram everything from storage into it. It'll be a challenge, but will force us to get rid of some more stuff. Yay! Now I can't wait to move in!

Still not done with the court requirements for my brother's estate. The cemetery sent me a letter stating that my parents are in fact buried there. Now I'm waiting for the doctor to send me a letter stating that my sister is living in a nursing home and renounces any claim to the estate. Evidently Durable POA documents that my niece sent is not good enough. Isn't this authority to make decisions what the Durable POA is for? Anyway, I'm hoping this last piece of the info will be enough and I can finally be named administrator and can be done with it all.

Meanwhile, I can get some chores done today and then can pack for the WWII event at the Reading Airport this weekend. We look forward to going every year. It's like stepping back in time and I love hearing the veterans give their talks about their experiences. This time we've got hotel rooms nearby so we won't have to make the long drive home after being out in the sun all day with the kids.

Mike's father drove a tractor trailer for a living and it always amazed me he could do that. Getting up at all hours, sometimes having to go to bed at 4:00 in the afternoon and then all those hours driving!! I fall asleep 10 minutes into a road trip and I'm pretty sure you have to stay awake the whole time. Now they're talking about driverless trucks. That won't work. Now kids on the side of the road can't signal for the drivers to honk their horns!

Our new house is going to need a new roof in the next couple of years. Not looking forward to that. It's smart to get some quotes because a roof is going to be an expensive repair. Quotes can vary wildly. Our daughter had to have a tree removed and prices were from $3500-1500. She went with the lower one and they did an excellent job.

This 'tree hugger' was old enough to be my grandfather. He spent 8+ hours in that tree bringing it down section by section. He didn't even come down for lunch, they sent a 'bag' up the tree to 'feed him'.

    IMG_4658.jpeg

The ground crew then hauled the sections to their truck for disposal. The higher priced companies wanted to bring in a crane to do the work. The owner of the crew that did the work told me 'the old man is so experienced and so good at dropping sections of a big tree we don't need a crane like other companies.
