If one does a lot of national parks, the senior pass, even though it did go up in price a few years back, is still a steal.

We got ours when it was $10, on a fluke. Heading into Zion one fall, stopped to pay, and the Ranger asked if I was 62 or over. At the time, I wasn't but wife was, so we got the pass for ten, which covers a car full.

Had a busy day. Hit the gym early and of course, stopped by Sheetz to get my free Slushie. Then did a little bit of retail therapy. I was good. I did not buy any shoes.

Finally got the paperwork back on the stuff I had to mail overnight on June 20th. Took long enough. I had the new account number so now I mail the next set of forms and this should take care of it. I am still trying to figure out what I am paying the lawyer for. Grrrr

Went ahead and mowed outside the fence since I did not have time to do it the other day when I mowed. I did all the way down the street again but I told my aunt I was retiring from yard service. As I mowed in front of her grandson's house, his car was there. I sure am glad he did not come out into the heat and mess up his hair in the humidity.

Many moons ago, I allowed this guy to live with me. He never did anything much around the house. When the grass got about knee deep, I knew I would have to cut it. I was working 1 full time and 2 part time jobs, with usually no day off. On the hottest day of the year, as I mowed, Larry pulled out a deck chair, sat in the shade and watched me mow the entire yard. I became angrier with each row. After finishing, I asked him why and he said since it was his day off, he didn't think he should have to do any work.

I gave him one hour to get his stuff out of the house before I burned it. Fastest I ever saw him move. Guess he had to work on his day off after all.

    Morning, all.

Clement weather continues, although the temp is said to be heading back to the low 80s. No rain. And, well, therefor no floods.

Heaven forbid he should mess up his hair!! Ever consider mowing it for him? (His hair?)

    Too generous of you.

It is so hot here. 90 degrees, yuck! I decided it was not a good idea to be up in the attic. I have been working on the living room which was full of stuff. Only half full now. I need to get it emptied so I can start bringing down stuff from the attic when the fall comes. I am not sure if I will ever finish. I don't even want to think about it.

I went to the gym, did some grocery shopping, picked up a prescription, filled up with gas, and came home and did 2 loads of clothes.

I got some shrimp at the store so I am going to try to replicate the buffalo shrimp salad I had the other night. Bet it will not be as good, but you never know til you try it.

Dan is still at home. He went to the emergency room yesterday with his back and they gave him two shots. Not exactly sure what they gave him but I hope it gives him some relief. He has had an awful time.

I get to go to the second part of my dental cleaning tomorrow. Yay me! I hope it does not take another 4 hours. Looking on the bright side, it is air conditioned and I need a rest.

@rosesense - You are my hero! Think he ever figured out why you kicked him out? How stupid am I? I can't watch someone work without helping even when we're paying them.

The good news here is that our AC is working. The bad news is I'm getting harassed by American Home Shield to pay for the contract coverage. Finally figured out that the check the title ins. company sent them at settlement was never cashed. Those daily calls were actually from a collection company! I wasn't answering their calls because they were coming through as possible spam so a week was wasted in discovering there was a problem. It's being handled now.

We met another of our neighbors on Tues. Everybody is so nice here. They all mention that it's a community that looks out for each other. Looks like we hit Nirvana! I've always worried that we'd move and find out that our neighbors were awful. Hmmm, maybe they'd like to be helpful and help put some of this stuff away!

Prior to moving I made a whole bunch of juice. Who knew it was going to take almost 8 months to find a house! The juice has lasted all this time, but we're finally getting low. So, yesterday we found the box of vape equipment and realized I needed some things - like glass bottles. Where did all our bottles go? I remember thinking I'd order flavoring later so now later has arrived. Looks like I'll be doing some mixing in about a week. Hope I remember how to do it!

It started thundering and raining during the night and it looks like it is going to be a while before I can mow. They are calling for rain for the next 10 days or so. Oh well, I know the rain is good. I just wish it did not make me so bad.

I need to get started on my day even if it is raining. My gun came in and I need to go pick it up. I am sort of excited about it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.

Good morning. Looks we'll get a slight reprieve from the heat. Instead of being 90 it'll only be 84 today with 70% humidity. Ugh. Good thing our AC is working.

I've had a problem with my fingernails being so brittle, probably due to my thyroid. So I haven't had a manicure for several years because I haven't had any nails. Finally I went to a salon and they have this powder dip instead of the gel and voila! It's working. I have fingernails again! No breaks, splits or sore fingers. This stuff doesn't get scraped off like the gel so it doesn't ruin the nails. How long has this been available? Wish I'd known sooner. Now I just have to find a salon near me that I like.

    Morning, all.

A bit warmer here, still no rain. But no floods and not (quite) an oven...

They are calling for rain for the next 10 days or so.

Maybe just haul a bunch of stuff down from the attic to go though until it gets dry again?

    Morning, loungers.

Weather is on repeat, although they do still keep cranking up the thermostat. Some vague mumblings about maybe scattered showers late tonight. All scattered north of us, of course.

If you can find your chain saw... ;)

I'd like to take a brief minute and write a bit about Mike and Janet ..

There are few, if any, people I know either in Real Life or in our on-line Family that I feel like I know any better than these two ..

I'd guess it's been maybe 11 or 12 years since Randall started the first 'Older Folks' Thread and through the thick and the thin, Mike and Janet have been there, consistently and without fail .. I / We have shared their Journey and what a Journey it's been .. many have come and gone, for various reasons, over those years ..

Mike and Janet have always been there, and, somehow, in a weird, symbiotic way, they have complemented each other .. I don't mean that in the sense of praising each other, but in the sense of, well, all I can think of at the moment is, two peas in a pod that continue to put up with each other over oh, so many years .. to me, it's a beautiful thing ..

So many life events that it's impossible to remember .. the Grand Kids, life's ups and downs, the humor, the advice, growing potatoes in a bag, the food, the Family, the get togethers, the trips, essentially, the Good and the Bad ..

My highest admiration for both of you .. I feel like I have been somehow vicariously enriched by our happenstance 'meeting' those years ago ..

I raise a glass and look forward to many more years of your particular brand of Peace, Love and Friendship .. I sometimes think that we, as People, don't express our real feelings as much as we can or should as it relates to those that touch us in one way or another ..

So, Thank You for being You and letting me share that ..

@clnire I agree with you. I may be too sick to do much right now but love to read you all.

And Cathy you’re right… Gary is a saint. Currently he does everything here. Greenhouse, house cleaning, dishes , shopping, laundry. Coaches me to breathe when I panic and don’t think I can. Gets me my first cup of really hot tea in the morning which soothes my throat and stops the coughing.

Seeing the pulmonologist this Thursday. I’ve had a chest-ray, a cat scan, a PFT (pulmonary function test) and an echo. Surely the doc can come up with a plan. Will keep you posted.
