We're headed over to our son's house today. Just going to hang out and eat a lot. He likes to grill and I think there might be steak involved so I'm really looking forward to it.

Anybody else have any plans for this Labor Day?
No plans here but I think dd has a BBQ in mind.

Has anyone heard from Bea? I hope her health issues are still improving.
I've been checking in on her. After multiple doctors and tests, she finally got a diagnosis and a plan of action. She's doing better but still has some challenges. I'm with you in hoping she continues to improve.

    Morning, all.

We finally did get some rain, as in: rain, not dew :) Just over 1/10th of an inch, so the hoses got a break :)

And, other than Saturday, nice temps, staying in the mid 70s.

Thanks for the update on Bea, good to know the docs have figured it out!

Just had a tree guy here to see about taking out 3 huge tulip poplars from alongside our driveway. It's not sap, it's honeydew and they're droppings are horrendous - right on our cars. The bees are walking all over the cars eating it. If we were fussy we'd be washing the cars everyday. While it's not necessary to use anything special to get it off, just use soapy water, it does take some wiping, it won't come off with just spraying water at the carwash. Whew, we're so excited not to loose perfectly healthy trees.

You're not having them cut down?

Uh oh. Forgot to say that evidently it's aphids that drop the honeydew (which is a nicer way to say their poo) and they just love the tulip poplars. The arborist said this was a very bad year for them. They put some chemical at the base of the tree for the roots to take up and when the aphids suck the juice from the tree it kills them so we don't have to worry about another tulip poplar on the property re-infesting these trees. Our infested trees have already dropped 1/2 their leaves when none of the surrounding trees have started yet.

This company could have made a fortune by taking out these 3 trees, but the guy said they were more interested in caring for the trees. Wow, that's refreshing,

Nope. Turns out we don't need to. Don't even have to spray. That would have been hard enough given the size of these trees. They're beautiful trees too. A bit messy in the Spring when they drop their tulips, but it's a small price to pay.

    That's a good thing.

Nice temps continue, as does the dearth of rain drops. Oh, well, can't have it all.

Very! Sick, or hazard trees should come down, nice to keep the health ones and get rid of the bugs!!

I worked on a lot of VW's in the 60's and 70's; bugs; buses, station wagons. fastbacks, Ghia's. Everything from general tune ups to complete engine rebuilds. But I never saw one like this.

    Hola .. :|

Yeah, that was owned by George 'The Caffinator' Barris .. who also originated the 'coffee mug glove' which had a mug permanently attached to the glove .. that later morphed into the 'hold my phone in my hand all the time' movement ..

If memory serves, did you not also once push a VW into a lake .. ??

Geez Willie, you must keep lists like Torey! Nothing wrong with your memory!!

So, he DID push one into a lake?

(Good place for them, imo. Punched out a windshield on a bug, with my head (riding shotgun), back in my teens. Haven't liked VW since. Then cheating on mpg estimates. Nope.)

If you are going to bring up my past adventures, then get it right. It was a foggy night (so was my brain after a day of various intoxicants hanging at a tavern listening to my friend‘s guitar sets) driving to an after show party and I went right through a 2x8 road barrier closing the road and then I drove into the lake. I think the barrier was there to keep that from happening but what do I know.

It was mid winter and very cold wading back to the beach. Plus we were on back country roads, miles from our destination, if we had to walk we’d probably come down with hypothermia. But … 3 angels were toking up on the beach. With a big wow the said ‘we thought you were going to stop’. Then they introduced themselves “Hi, I’m Mathew and these are my buddies Mark and John. Can we drive you somewhere.”

    ***LONG POST WARNING***

The Rat had a wonderful trip but has been so busy I have not had a chance to post. sniff, sniff

I posted once but for the life of me I cannot remember what I told you. Oh well. The main thing is I had a wonderful time and I dearly loved his family. We even ended up going to Georgia to see his brother. Ken had not seen him in a long time so it was nice.

I am pretty sure his family liked me. What's not to like?
    1laugh.gif
I am just kidding but they all made me feel at home. I hope to see them again.

The trip was not totally perfect. Ken got a speeding ticket on the way back. Within 50 miles of home, he got pulled. I could not really blame him. The traffic was all moving so fast and that car is so smooth that you don't realize how fast you are going. Of course, we do know because the ticket said he was going 86 in a 70. I really hated it but I was glad it happened at the end of our trip.

When we got home Monday, guess who had no A/C? I have had nothing but bad luck with that unit since the day they installed it back in 2017. Thank goodness we had a warranty so the parts did not cost. I think I told y'all about the $330 labor cost for installing a motor. Well this time, it is the compressor.

The unit is made by Goodman. Because I have had so many issues, they offered to give me a brand new unit which is bigger and more cost efficient. I still have to pay for the labor to have it installed which I am not sure I think is fair because I already paid for it once.

The quote for installation was $1800.00. The first two days, I talked him down to $1600. It took me a few more days but I finally got it down to what I feel is reasonable. Ken and I are going to help him and his assistant. In fact, Ken is going to pick up the unit with his truck and trailer. The ac man told Ken he better keep me because I was one heck of a woman. Ken said he agreed. They are so silly but anyway, it is now going to cost $700 cash. I am pleased with that.

It worked out well that I could spend the night with Ken. With my thyroid issues, I keep mine set at 76 or 78. Ken on the other hand is hot-natured and keeps his on 69. I wish I had packed winter pajamas.

Well anyway, we meet the man at 9 tomorrow and hopefully I will finally be sleeping in my bed. I miss my bed.

I have been so busy and active, that I have only gained 1 pound this trip. Probably sweated most of it off. We went to the Moose Lodge last night and tonight. Double meat nachos last night and a fish sandwich and tots tonight. I really do like their food. Everything I have had has been delicious. They are supposed to have pot roast tomorrow night and Ken said we might have to go again. Doesn't matter to me, just tell me when.

I will tell you that the relationship has really gotten pretty serious for both of us. I know it has only been two months but we have spent quite a bit of time together and I am happy about it. Of course, I have told him he is still on probation until the first of the year but judging from his pros and cons, I want him to stick around.

I am on the couch wrapped up in a blanket. Since I am warm I am going to go run jump in bed and hopefully have enough heat to warm the sheets quickly. (fingers crossed)

Glad to be back. I sure do miss y'all when I'm gone.

    Have a great Thursday!
