That is true. I have a debit but rarely use it. I worked for the bank for 12 years and to this day, I have never used an ATM machine. But it is nice to know that I can in case of an emergency or the banks are closed.

I must say my supper was another hit. I would fix the kielbasa and kraut again although if it had not been for Ken, I would have bought the turkey kielbasa. I think it is good and much lower in fats. I added Southern-style pintos from Glory, cranberry sauce, and yeast rolls. No wonder I've gained. Sheesh! I have been avoiding the scales for a good reason.

Gosh, this has been another quick week. Thursday they have an open mic nite at a bar we go to. I have seen karaoke but never open mic so I would like to see it. It depends on the weather and how I am feeling. I am still recovering from all that rain yesterday. There is a man there that we always talk to that sings every time I have seen him and he has a beautiful voice. His name is Jerry so last week, they were calling him Jerry Roll. (you know, a play on Jelly Roll) heehee It is a shame that I can only sing in the shower.

And it is also a shame that I am no better at the guitar. I still pick it up but not like I used to. I have the guitar, harmonica, and uke right beside my chair. I did play one night for Ken and I think he was a little surprised.

Happy Friday eve everyone. Sleep well.

I do use credit cards (but not debit cards) for many things, but I really prefer cash. I figure it's nobody's business but my own what I spend money on. Once you get a bank involved (credit, debit, or check) you are broadcasting your spending habits to the universe.

Good morning. We're going to 45 today and he next 2 days and then we'll be at or below freezing for the next 10 days. 2 months and 1 week til Spring. Unfortunately there's no snow predicted during that time. If I have to endure these cold temps it sure would be nice to see some snow. Yeah, I know, be careful what you wish for.

I'm off to get my hair cut this afternoon which is close to my daughter's house so I'll stop in there for a visit. I'll get to meet the new nanny. Well, she's really more of a babysitter except she'll pick up the little guy from preschool and maybe take him to the park etc if the weather is nice. Anything to keep him off the iPad... She sounds wonderful, but they haven't met in person yet.

I'm not really for paperless billing .. send me a real bill .. T-Mobile offers $5.00 off if you auto pay, so I did do that .. the rest of them I pay manually via Ethernet wired PC on a VPN ..

What's funny is, not soon after you begin paying on-line, the cheap .......s stop sending a return envelope with which to mail a payment in ..

I can well remember return envelopes years ago where the postage was pre-paid .. well, that went the route of the dodo

I get and pay most of my bills online, but I can always print out the bill anytime I want. Here at our new house our mail doesn't come till 5:00-5:30 and I'm having a hard time getting used to that especially now that it gets dark so early. I bring in the mail and open it by the trash can where most of it ends up. I agree with Tory that it's great to check each day as to what's coming in the mail so I know if I can skip the trip to the mailbox.

I'd rather pay with cash too especially for small businesses so they don't have to pay the 3% service charge to the CC company and always leave a tip in cash. There is the problem of carrying the buildup of coins in my wallet. Change sure gets heavy pretty quick.

Speaking of cash, the other day I noticed I had 2 - $1 silver certificates in my wallet. You know, the ones that say One Dollar in silver payable to the bearer on demand. Ha! Just had a mental picture of me going to a bank and demanding silver for it and them sprinkling a little silver dust into my palm. Haven't looked into whether it's worth anything to a collector.

Morning, all.

Looks to be a brief respite from the rain. Likely very brief! And they say we'll be joining the cold snap, said to have highs in the mid 20s for the weekend, along with more precip. So it both do happen, possibly snow down to sea level. We're about 500', so...

Yup. Same here. And serving folk ALWAYS get a cash tip. No reason for them to lose that %.

I feel the same about "loyalty" cards from merchants. And their "apps." NO, you don't need to know what or where I buy things...

What meek said .. now, I will say, I have an ATM withdrawal card, so I do get access to my cash if needed .. however, it can only be used for ATM withdrawals ..

I'm known to be a fairly generous tipper .. these days, and over the years, the convoluted methods that some outfits use to pay out tips can and does sometimes have a direct effect on the server .. and, since so many customers use the plastic, how does a server really know anything .. ?? It's BS ..

My way .. ?? I hand the person the cash money and always say 'Deposit this in the hip pocket National Bank ..'

Curious mind here: What do you have against debit cards. If I'm going to use plastic I'd rather use a debit card than a credit card. Too easy to run up a bill on credit cards. At least with a debit card I know I need to have the money in the bank to use it for a purchase.

I do most of my purchasing on-line so I'm not concerned about having my buying patterns tracked ... they already are being tracked.

I don't really have a vendetta against debit cards .. to each his own .. everyday purchases, gas, eateries, etc, I pay with cash .. I always have .. I also keep enough cash on me so that if I somehow overhear someone say they have a 1969 Martin that they got somehow and are trying to sell, I'm their man ..

I see people using debit cards for $1.75 purchase .. I think it's stupid ..

Uncle Sam wants a cashless Society .. he has for years .. it's not going to happen, at least not in my lifetime .. I'm just doing my small part to keep the status quo ..

Control the money, control the people

Lastly, electricity and telecommunications outages can take out digital networks and people's access to funds with them .. just something to think about

In preparation for the rain tomorrow, I got busy today. I changed sheets, did laundry, made tea, vacuumed after I got all the hair removed from the beater bar, dusted some, took the garbage down the street, took a walk with my aunt, fixed a big o'l salad, got my hair washed and legs shaved, and cut my toenails. Tomorrow, zilch is on the agenda. All day long!

I said something about going to hear the open mic tonight but Ken said he did not care about going. Funny how I always go along with what he wants to do. I rarely ask to go to someplace. If I had not been so tired from the day's activities, I would have gotten dressed and gone by myself. I know enough of the people there that I do not think I would feel out of place. Sheesh! Is the honeymoon over?

I'm not sure.

Happy Fri-YAY everyone!

Fer sure! Gotta have clean sheets when it rains.

??
No, not because it is going to rain but because when it rains, I am sure I will not feel like changing the sheets or much of anything else. Me and the rain do not play well together.

I got in bed but ended up getting back up. I wish I could fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I envy those who can.

And besides, who doesn't love clean sheets? Rain or shine.
