Of course the oven would have to be on for 9-15 hours.
I think that would be costly because the oven uses a bunch of wattage, I think.

The repair guy said he uses an air fryer that's much quicker.
I just watched a YouTube on that this morning because Perry has an air fryer. It is pretty quick (16 minutes at 350 for apple chips) but you can only put around 6 in at a time. I'd have to air fry all day just to make a snack.

I know it is just because it is all new but I am loving my little dehydrator. I bought the one with 9 trays but I wish I had bought a bigger on. But I have lots of free time anyway.

I am looking forward to trying to make crackers and cookies. The machine came with a very good recipe book. Saturday I get my jerky gun. heehee I am definitely obsessed.

But that is just how I roll.

My heart just breaks for what our people in the mountains are going through with the hurricane. A friend of Perry's was taking a load of donated stuff to them yesterday so Perry and I both bought a 5 gal. bucket of cleaning solution and a 5 gal. bucket of bleach to add to his load. I know it is not much but at least it is something. Made me feel good. The man that owns it remembered me from buying there before. I talked him into donating a bunch of empty plastic gallon jugs to go with my order. Sometimes, it's hard to say no to me.

We haven't heard of any shipments from here going to the flooded areas, but we did make a donation to the red cross and Samaritans Purse. I just can't wrap my head around loosing EVERYTHING and I hear most don't even have insurance. What are they going to do? It's just heartbreaking,

On a lighter note, our oldest grandson, Miles, is now a Weeblo scout! Looks like they have a great troop here with lots of parent support. Yesterday I spent several hours sewing the patches on his shirt - ugh - not the fun part of scouting. Then Mike was doing some researching and it looks like I have to take one patch off and move it down 1/2" - WHAT??? My poor sore fingers. Is there anything we won't do for our kids.

Last night his brother asked me for a small ziplock bag so I gave him one and he promptly spit into it and lo and behold there was a little tooth in the bag! So, I got to play tooth fairy last night. Unfortunately he took forever to fall asleep, but I managed to get some money under his pillow and snatched the bag away. He was a happy little guy this morning to know that the tooth fairy could even find him when he wasn't at home in his own bed.

I can't speak about the whole swath of folks effected, but I have spent some time in Asheville, NC .. it is a beautiful city with great people and a vibrant culture ..

The issue, as I understand it from the insurance perspective, is flood insurance, not generally just your regular Home Owners policy ..

"Most homeowners insurance policies don’t cover floods, but many homeowners don’t know that"

“The No. 1 reason [people don’t buy flood insurance] is that people mistakenly think that they’re not in a high-risk flood zone, that they don’t need it,” Burgess said. “No. 2 is confusion, that they believe that their homeowners insurance covers the risk of flooding when it does not. And No. 3 is the cost.”

I don't have flood insurance and I have a home within a couple of mile of the Mississippi .. however, although the river flooding is fairly common, my elevation is around 600 feet .. if it topped that, a very very large area would be underwater ..

Indeed. Grim.

Yup. And a LOT of other things to be problematic!!

Many years back, when we were looking for land to plant our house on, I took with us the "inundation maps" from work. (Hydroelectric plant electrician / operator, ALL dams in the US are required to produce and periodically update those, which show high water downstream in the event of different dam failures.) Crossed a few off the list as worst case they'd be under several feet of water. No issues on the parcel we eventually bought.

I have had a wonderful weekend. Perry and Walter (the man from another city that came to help Perry) worked so hard this weekend.

Walter is a nice man who has had a hard time the last couple of years. He had a special needs son who passed away and a sad failed relationship.

He fell in love with one of Ken's motorcycles and wanted to buy it. After eating supper with him for two night, I decided to give him the motorcycles as a gift. He deserves it and I think Ken would approve of my decision. Walter was shocked to say the least. I think I am just as happy as him. Here is his new ride.

They should be finished soon. We are going to trailer his bike and take it to his house foe him. It is on the way. Perry is taking me to the beach for a couple of days. I am so excited.

Hope everyone has a great week. I'll be back soon.

@DavidOck - I agree about checking out the lay of the land before purchasing property. No matter where you live there's always some kind of problems people need to be prepared for. At least here we haven't usually had to deal with tornadoes, hurricanes or earthquakes. At least so far.

Our daughter's oldest son, Huxley, has had a fever for 9 days. After 8 days she took him to Urgent Care and then the pediatrician - all told her his lungs, ears etc were clear. Nothing to be done. Yesterday she got her demanding Mom hat on and insisted on a chest x-ray. Sure enough, he's got pneumonia and they FINALLY gave her a script for amoxicillin. We hate that antibiotics have been handed out for everything, but when you need them, you need them and nobody wanted to listen to her. They're listening now!

We do have the occasional earth mover, but nothing big for many years. Of course, after each little shake the local news goes crazy talking about "the big one." :)

And our volcanoes have been nice and quiet for a long time as well. We're on the foothills of Mt. Rainier, and all the data suggests that when it goes, some day, it won't be pointed at us :)

Having been there for both of the big ones, I hope to never see another. Made for a lot of extra work as we were showing dogs at the time of Mt St Helens and we had to wash the dogs after every time they were outside as the ash cut like a razor. Had to wash vehicles constantly as well or it took the paint off.

As for the quake, I was at work and watched the floor and windows move like a carnival ride. Worst part was taking over 6 hours to go 23 miles home to check on pets/family.

We were still up in Port Orchard when St. Helen's blew her top. Prevailing winds too most of the ash elsewhere.

Yeah, the quake was... interesting. And we all went scurrying to check the dams and power houses, which all did come through just fine.

You lived in Port Orchard? I worked there and surrounding areas when I worked for the state out of the Bremerton office in '96-2000.

We are trying to find a property around Yelm so we can relocate with the horses. Prices have skyrocketed so I dunno.

Yup, where we landed when we moved to WA in '79. There for about 10 years, 8 commuting by ferry to the shipyards in Seattle. Country living, city wages :) Then got the job at the hydro, and drove that round trip for two years so our youngest could finish high school without changing. Me, service brat, didn't want her to deal with those transitions so late in her schooling. As soon as she finished, we found a place in Eatonville, so my commute went from 3 hours to 10 minutes :)

    Hi Veep. 'Member me? ;)

Just dropping by to wish you a very happy TWELFTH Vape-a-Versary!!

Sorry for the intrusion, Lounge Lizards :D

No intrusion, jump in! And how could I forget? :)

And thanks, but a day early :) 12 years tomorrow.
