Morning, all.

Seems the gap between fronts has stretched out a bit, so some sun today :)

And time to start bringing in the outdoor potted plants. Haven't dropped below 40 yet, but it's coming.

Did that about a week and a half ago when night temps got down to the low 30's ..

This is one twice a year ritual that I simply do not look forward to .. maybe it's time to switch to fake greenery .. I saw some very natural looking items at Hobby Lobby ..

I LOVE Hobby Lobby! Didn't have one close to us at the old house, but we're within 20 minutes of one now. I can get lost in that store! In fact I texted my daughter when I was there asking for help because I couldn't leave the store!

I've been careful about what I bring in. Some plants I know are not going to over winter well so I'm leaving them on the deck. You have some rather large plants though. I just have 1 large one so that's in the basement by the glass doors. The others are of medium size so I stack them. It's a PIA to bring them in, but your big ones will make your inside look lush over the harsh winter. Enjoy them!

Tomorrow is the big day. Mike gets his first cataract done. We'll both be happier when it's all over. My own experience was wonderful so I hope his is too. It's like a miracle to be able to see so much better and really, other than eye drops it's no real trouble. Think I'd rather do cataracts again than have my colonoscopy. Geez, 10 years goes by so fast!

Morning, all.

Down to 37 last night, and said to be sunny today. Yep, good time to bring them in.

This is one twice a year ritual that I simply do not look forward to .. maybe it's time to switch to fake greenery .. I saw some very natural looking items at Hobby Lobby ..

I've been pushing for green cement and plastic flowers for years. Nope, she's not going for it.

Think I'd rather do cataracts again than have my colonoscopy.

Yup. Wife had both hers done some years back. (Not at the same time, of course!) And I had one done last summer, the other's not bad yet. Yep, no muss, no fuss, and a huge difference :)

Well, the problem is, although I am not a Horticulturist, over the last 10 years or so, I have dabbled in propagation, since my natural need to tinker around, why not with plants ..

This has, thusly, exponentially increased the sheer numbers, and, I just can't bring myself to throw any away ..

And yes, the house looks great and during the 'good' months, the deck looks like I live in Florida .. the interior side benefit is, natural air cleaning ..

But, the day will come, sooner or later, that I will need to pay somebody to haul them in and out .. my lower back continues to be a delicate contraption ..

The procedure is done. I'm a one-eyed dude this afternoon. Yep, no fuss no muss and it was over. My eye is 'waking' up sooner than expected. Post procedure they said it could be dinner time before the numbing medications wore off and my eye muscles would begin working to open my eye. By the time we got home late this morning I was getting a fuzzy picture with the 'new eye'. It's still quite out of focus but I am 'seeing' with it. Just time now.

I did remove the right lens from my prescription glasses that helps. Poor reconditioned eye was also straining to look through a prescription much too strong.

One, uh, interesting item regarding cataract surgery that I found out a couple months ago (and a couple months after getting one eye done) is that Medicare will pay for a lot (in my case ALL) costs for new glasses after the surgery :) Was REALLY nice after picking frames and getting the fake lenses marked up to see my bill was $0.00 :)

Don't know about you, but I can't just do 1 cutting. I take several because I don't know how many will "take" and then most of them do! Depending on the plant you can pot up a couple in one larger pot so that helps. But still, I end up giving some pots away.

I have plans for a couple very large pots that may require hiring some high school kid to move in and out next year, My back takes too long to heal to take a chance. Then there's the problem of finding enough of the right windows.

Isn't that great after spending mucho bucks on glasses in the past!! Of course, there's no question that the old ones won't work after cataracts.

Speaking of the cost of glasses, I got my last pair from Costco at a fraction of the cost at the glasses shops. Woohoo! Now it's 2 years later. We'll see if that still holds or will I have to go get a job to pay for a new pair.

Sure wish you had told me that about a decade ago. Well, at least I found out that medicare picks a part of eye exams if you have diabetes.

Morning, lizards.

Brisk temp overnight - down to 32 for the first time this season. But maybe low 60s today, rain back tomorrow :)

That they don't :)

Sorry, but I didn't need the surgery 10 years ago ;)

For us, our "advantage" plan does pick up most of the cost.

@MikeE3 Congrats on the successful cataract surgery! I think it was @Janet H who suggested to me to take out the lens in my glasses after my surgery. That really helped during the transition.

Yes, Medicare will cover a pair of single vision eyeglasses or bifocals, no extras. I still work and am on the computer a lot. The change in focal distances drove me nuts (stuff on the desk, look up at the computer, or lookup to talk to someone outside my office) so I went for a pair of progressives which aren't covered. I'm used to them, and it felt better to my eyes.

Costco is good for glasses, and I've gotten a few pairs there. We also have a local shop that offers 50% Senior Discount on Sunday and Tuesday. I like supporting local, plus the service is extraordinary. The hubby had a problem with his new glasses, they did another eye exam to check it vs what his doctor prescribed at no charge and then replaced the lenses to the new prescription at no charge. What a difference for him - and then one lens started getting cracks - they replaced that at no charge too. just wow for service.

Update: my tentative retirement date is no later than Feb. 14, a Valentines Day present for the hubby! The new owners are starting the search for my replacement. I told them I wanted to retire after the corporate taxes are filed, typically by the end of January as that's a good point of closure but gave them a little leeway. And if they find someone sooner, all the better!

According to the optical shop ... medicare will only pick up the charge for 1 pair of basic glasses. Any extra's, progressives, coatings, etc ar out of pocket expenses. So I'm counting on Medicare plus some out of pocket for the new prescription glasses, then use my vision insurance to cover some of the cost of prescription sun glasses.

My routine eye exams are covered by medicare because i'm on a 'glaucoma' watch. Otherwise I'd have to use my vision insurance which id dang basic. I guess that's the 'up' side of having an eye disease.

Good morning. It's a beautiful morning and the leaves are still falling. It looks so pretty outside with all the leaves on the ground.

Mike found a very nice little theater in a rural town less than 30 minutes away from us so we went to see Cabaret. The play was very well done. The next play in Nov. is Beauty and the Beast so this morning we're looking at the possibility of getting tickets to take 2 of the grandsons to see it. I'm interested to see how they like the experience of seeing a stage play.

Morning, loungers.

Might spend the day there, as it's said to be rain all weekend.

Didn't notice any the times I got up overnight, but the temp only went down to the low 50s (from high 50s...) so it must be cloudy at least.

I'm interested to see how they like the experience of seeing a stage play.

I suspect they'll like it :)
