Morning, all.

Rain here, snow higher up. Works for me!

Our woodpecker is back. He drums at the chimney to mark his territory.

We'd often have woodpeckers rapping on steel transmission towers. No, not looking for bugs or marking territory - sharpening their beaks.

After having lived thru so, so many political cycles, it's downright boring to hear about 'cutting Government waste' .. the newly coined Department of Government Efficiency, headed by two guys that have no authority, but like to wallow in the attention

I don't know about you, but the whole 'cut the waste' bit goes back, way back .. it's a nice sound bite, I suppose .. remember $600 hammers, etc .. ??

Until it comes time to actually 'cut the waste' .. when Congress has to step in, entitlements, earmarks, pork projects and all that start to come into play .. SNAP is another they like to toss out on the table .. yeah, sure, there is waste .. but the cost to attempt to eliminate the waste is more than the waste itself ..

In the meantime, NPR and PBS always seems to be at the forefront during initial talking points .. I guess folks just don't know the miniscule piece of the Government cheese these two entities actually get .. but, hey, I guess it sounds good .. 'We don't need no stinking PBS, it's a pack of woke intellectuals .. give 'em the boot ..' .. my advice is, talk to a teacher .. PBS supports key developmental areas — from communication and critical thinking skills to literacy and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning .. all areas kids these days need more of ..

Then there is this 'Eliminate Birthright Citizenship' .. OK .. I really don't know how that would work, I mean, is your birth certificate not the foundation of your identity .. ?? Do both parents, in the Maternity Ward, at the moment of a child's birth, have to cough up 'their papers' in order to get a Birth Certificate .. ?? What if one parent is a natural born American and the other is not .. ?? If somebody could offer an understandable answer, that would be great .. otherwise, just another talking point from a talking head ..

Mass deportation .. ?? I'd like to see it happen .. I really, really would .. why .. ?? Because it will, at some point, clearly show the American populace just how much the 'undocumented' bring to the table .. literally, to your tabe .. jobs that are near impossible to fill without 'undocumented' labor .. folks have no Earthly idea just how much this segment contributes to the economy and helps to actually keep prices down ..

There has always been a very easy answer to halting 'undocumented' flow .. enforce laws against the employers that hire these folks ..

Take a moment and read about the Alabama debacle of a few years back .. and, keep in mind, that what is really not covered in this article is the fact that well-connected farmers and large food operations were both primary in getting this onerous legislation quelled ..

Been away from here for a few days, so thought I check in. Yuck and yuck, I been struggling with a bad sinus and head cold that started end of last week. Every breadth I took felt like I was breathing in fire and smoke. And swallowing was a struggle, felt like someone polishing the inside of my throat with sandpaper.

This is day 4 or 5 going through it and finally the symptoms are much less. Hopefully I’m over the hump and my body can throw this bug.

On a brighter note. Miles, our 1st born grandson, turns 10 years old tomorrow. OMG! How fast the past 10 years have gone. I still have the image of him in my head, on the Gerber Baby jar that @Uncle Willie photoshopped. Tis’ true I guess, the older you get the faster time flys by.

I know how you feel. It sure lasted a long time with me. I really cannot complain though because I rarely get sick. Look on the bright side, you at least got it over with before Christmas. (I hope)

I am having a hard time finding someone who wants to work on my washing machine because it is 16 years old. They say the parts are hard to find. It has been such a good machine. I honestly think the older ones lasted longer.

I really don't mind bringing my laundry to Perry's. At least I have access to a washer. I guess I'll start looking at what is out there. I know I will not pay the price they are asking for a Bosch. Boy, they like their stuff. The only problem I am going to have is having a mix-matched set. I may have to replace both washer and dryer.

Almost 70 degrees today but rainy. Supposed to have hard rain tomorrow. Oh, joy. I have a doctor's appointment for my knee. I am hoping he will just say give it more time and it will be fine. Everyone cross your fingers for me.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Good rainy morning everybody. It's 57 outside so I'm glad I'm not dealing with icy roads. I have to drive to DE today to get my hair cut and will be stopping at our daughters house to drop off some stuff and see the work being done on her bathroom. That project is long overdue so we're so pleased it's finally happening.

I made 2 batches of Christmas cookies yesterday and will hopefully be able to get some cut out cookies made today to take with me. It wouldn't be Christmas without cookies! Next up is our traditional Kiffle filled with either Lakvar jam or nuts. And then of course there's the dobas torte cake but I'd rather wait until next week for that. So much for our diets... Maybe if we just don't eat anything else and just live on the cookies until after the holidays.

Rain back late today, so they claim. But nice until then :)

Yeah, some brands are really proud of their products... Mis-matched is fine, just try to stay the same capacity.

Well, they do make specialty appliance paint in a variety of colors ... just saying.

Morning, all.

Cool and dry, until tonight is the claim, then not so cool and soggy. We'll see. And maybe only scattered showers for the weekend.

We tend to "mix and not match" laundry appliances, but do try to get them all the same capacity, and all white. So have to look at the labels to see they're not the same brand. And lean to the bare bones models, since all the gee whiz electronics tend to have more problems.

Couldn't agree more about appliances. My cousin's wife got a wiz-bang refrigerator when he remodeled her kitchen. It even has a camera inside so while she's at the grocery store she can 'look inside it' with her phone app to see what she might need at the store.

Nothing but issues and problems with that over gadgetized 'ice box'.

I bought a new a new stove a while back .. July, in fact, since that's one of the best times for appliance sales .. it came with convection cooking, air frying, automatic shut-off sensors, control thru app, etc .. I have found the air frying part handy .. that's about it .. it was also touted as a larger capacity oven, which sounds great until you realize the storage drawer is the size of a shoebox ..

But, in defense of the stove, it was half price, so a $1500 stove for $750 with free delivery ..

Not being one that routinely looks at appliances, I did see a couple refrigerators with a nice, large LED flat screen on one of the doors .. I suppose you can wirelessly stream HGTV while cooking ..

Which reminds me .. As a fan and viewer of 'Wheel of Fortune' since Chuck Woolery was the host, I was very skeptical of Ryan Seacrest taking over for Pat Zajack .. but, I have to admit, Seacrest does a pretty good job ..

We had an old washer that finally bit the dust but the dryer was still working so we just replaced the washer. Of course a year later the dryer died. Well, makes sense, both machines were the same age and they don't last forever. On the positive side the newer machine should be more efficient but I totally agree with you about the old machines lasting a lot longer.

Hope all goes well with your knee. It sure is helpful to have both working well together.

I have a bone on bone knee that will never get better. 4-5 years ago I was given choices. The choices were surgery or a cortizone shot. I choose the shot and my knee is still doing pretty good.

Our daughter was having an injection for a bulging disc in her neck this morning. Since they required her to have a driver, Brian had to take her. So, after baking some Christmas cookies I drove to her house last night to stay over and take the boys to school this morning. BIG MISTAKE to drive in the dark, on back roads in the rain. The glare on the road was awful. Half way there the car started making a horrible noise but when I pulled over to investigate there was a large branch stuck under the car. I couldn't reach it so I cranked up the radio and kept driving until I arrived. Bless Brian because he went out this morning and removed the branch.

Today it went up to 40, but was windy and sure felt a lot colder. Tomorrow is only going to be 38 but I'm going to be baking so we'll be cozy inside.

The previous homeowner renovated the kitchen and put in a Thermadore gas stove. it does everything but shop for ingredients. I'm not much for bells and whistles but having 6 burners sure is nice. I tried the convection oven feature, but didn't think it was that much better than a regular oven. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. What I'd really like to try is a conduction stove, but there's no way I'd get rid of a perfectly good stove to get one. Plus they're pretty expensive. Given time though we'll get used to the stoves we have.

Not sure if you know already but they make counter top single use conduction units. We're probably going to get one ourselves soon to test out. Fairly priced.
