:?: Never heard of Jerk Chicken ... is that jerky?

Never:shock:
It's Jamaican. It's good & spicy!

I've been really good the last few days hon :)

Right now it's in my Foggy dripper, don't know how it will be in anything else yet
Those tanks really are different aren't they?

 Now I don't feel so dumb!

Ya'll want to see my new special order that's coming? :?:

Glad the last couple of days have been better for ya:)

Yes! It's pretty mind boggling how different they can taste in different things.

Sooooooo pretty:D

It's possible the the original versions went all the way to jerky, but now it refers more to the seasoning. At least that's my understanding.
But I think the popularity of it came from Jamaican street food vendors. Not sure if it truly originated there though.

Here's the recipe I was looking at (minus the onion, DH's preference)
    Jay's Jerk Chicken Recipe - Allrecipes.com

...we do. :( I'm off here in a few to get my bath too. Plus, I want to pack my bag for tomorrow night. We're going to do an overnight at the lake.

Ooo! That sound's delicious! You'll have to let us know what you think of it Lori :)

I know Chim, I've just now really learned that lesson ...
now I'm kind of afraid to put the cocoa in a tank for fear it won't taste as good

Hate to waste it even if it was free :?:

Yep! I think the Jamaican version uses a rub.
I haven't had jerk chicken in a while! May have to get some from this Jamaican restaurant here soon:)

Yeaaaa! A night at the lake! I hope it's more for relaxation than work dear:)

I know what you mean. I've done that with a couple of juices. Ended up losing what was in the carto but taking the rest out of the tank with a syringe.

Guess I won't know until I try huh? Not real patient with the dripping thing anymore

Yeah but if it's strong then hopefully you won't lose too much flavor in your tank. But dripping does sometimes spoil ya with the flavor doesn't it?

I still like my Igo's for around the house but that's about as far as I can go with dripping.

I'll let you know. I have a recipe on a cookbook that I have as well, but I need to check ingredients.
The reviews for the one at All Recipes talk about cutting way back on the onion. That it was too overpowering.

Yep! I think the Jamaican version uses a rub.

DH lived in Atlanta for awhile, that's where he first had it. He said that the owner of the restaurant was a true Jamaican, and his jerk was REALLY, REALLY spicy. Good, but almost too spicy. DH said it can be pork as well, not just chicken.
We had some frozen Jerk Shrimp. That Margaritaville brand that I'd mentioned a couple weeks ago. DH said he's never heard of Jerk Shrimp, that it was explained to him that it was meat that needed to be cooked for a long time on a grill....or other type of long method of cooking, and the "jerk" was the motion you used with your fingers to pull the meat off of the bone. He said that was what the Jamaican owner told him. DH thinks that now, "jerk" is more a reference of the type of seasonings and spices used, and not the original meaning.

I really don't even know enough about it to even be talking about it though.

I can't say I've really heard of jerk shrimp either. I've had the pork a long time ago but I prefer the chicken.

Hummm...now you've got me wondering too. I always thought the name came from the seasoning too:unsure:

    Yeaaaah it does :(

Oh oh! Not to be a bad influence but Halo has a juice sale right now. 15% off but it doesn't say how long it'll last.

I'd never had it (at all) before the other night. It was good on shrimp, if you like shrimp.
Since I didn't know how it even tasted, I kind of went with a loose interpretation of a serving suggestion that was on the back of the box. So I put the shrimp in tortillias with some melted cheese, and served pineapple with it.
The box also showed it with white rice with some red beans...but not sure that it was exactly full blown red beans and rice. Since I haven't ever had that either.

....I'm REALLY in deep here.

No, I bought it frozen, ready to go...

I'd seen it but was too cheap to buy it. Then I saw a local groc store had it on sale, buy one get one free. So that made them 2 for $8.99 instead of one for...
    I also bought the coconut shrimp...it wasn't that great...at all. :(

I don't find anything that refers to it other than a spice....

There's no such thing as cheap shrimp, I was just leery to spend that for it because I'd never tried jerk anything before.
I also have no idea how it will stand up to restaurant jerk seasoning either. So... I take no responsibility if you think it's nasty.
