Can we leave crap like this off the forum please? If you don't know what I'm talking about, then it's best that you never post another joke again.

Just a suggestion, but you might want to edit the quote in your post. I wouldn't have known what the joke was if I didn't see it in your post.

FWIW though, I don't see anything derogatory in the joke. I'm just passing along one of the ECF suggestions to not quote something you find offensive.

NNNNOOOOOO!!! I had an awesome post typed in, an essay on comedic purity, the wit of offensive jokes and how to rescue it while achieving peace on earth and global communion, but I'm on a public computer so don't have "remember me" checked and my dagnabit session expired and I lost the post! bah! Oh well, I don't feel like reinventing my awesome retelling of the essay joke, or my explanation of the irish thing, maybe I will later....

How do all racist/sexist/dirty/offensive jokes start?
<looks over shoulder>

Anyone here listen to Ron and Fez or O and A? I ask this question because both shows have hit on the offensive subject many times (the Imus situation being very memorable). A joke is a joke which is a joke is the gist of it. Anyone can find anything offensive.... It's a shame we've gotten to that point. Somewhere along the line people forgot how to laugh.... The world is a worse place for it....

I have to agree.
I think part of the problem is that in order to laugh with someone you have to open up a small part of yourself.
The world is becoming so self centered, and you are afraid to open up to anybody for anything.
IMO....

I think we laugh here a lot. I look forward to coming to this forum knowing there will be at least a few post that have me cracking up. We are blessed with several humorous members.

Two old ladies were outside their nursing home, having a smoke when it started to rain. One of the ladies pulled out a condom, cut off the end, put it over her cigarette and continued smoking.

Lady 1: "What's that?"

Lady 2: "A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet."

Lady 1: "Where did you get it?"

Lady 2: "You can get them at any drugstore."

The next day ... Lady 1 hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms. The guy looks at her kind of strangely (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but politely asks what brand she prefers.

Lady 1: "It doesn't matter as long as it fits a Camel."

Mildred, a 93-year-old woman, was particularly despondent over the recent death of her husband. She decided that she would just kill herself and join him in death. Thinking that it would be best to get it over with quickly, she took out his old Army pistol and made the decision to shoot herself in the heart, since it was badly broken in the first place. Not wanting to miss the vital organ and become a vegetable and a burden to someone, she called her doctor's office to inquire as to just exactly where the heart would be on a woman. The doctor said, 'Your heart would be just below your left breast'. Later that night........ Mildred was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her knee.

When reading my post, please remember I am not directing this at any one person. The word "you" is meant for everyone reading this who thinks it's ok to tell "off-color", offensive, jokes. Also, as requested by the person who initially posted the joke in question, I have removed the quote of the actual joke from my previous post.

This thread doesn't have to descend into madness. Just keep the jokes clean.

I personally was not offended by the joke. But I can easily see how it could be offensive to anyone of Latin descent (as with the Irish one, or any joke similar). As you can see from my profile pic, I'm a white guy (German/Italian). But my wife is Hispanic. Maybe I have a better eye for these sorts of things, I don't know. I also spent 8 years in the Navy. My world has been culturally diverse for a long time now, but it wasn't always so. People who never left where I'm from still say racist things, and they don't even realize it. It's normal to them, as I'm sure it's normal to you. It's just how you were raised, the culture you come from, and you don't know any better.

But don’t hide behind people like carols mencia, and the thought that everyone is offended, so who cares. Carlos Mencia had his show canceled for a reason. And anyone who says "so what, lets just make fun of everyone and it'll be ok"... I'm sorry but you're just dense, immature, and ignorant to the world around you. Just because you think people should have to have thicker skin, because you do, doesn't mean they have to.

I've lived all across this country, and been all around the world. Just noticing that there ARE different cultures from the one you know, is very hard. That first understanding, of what culture actually is and means; it's an eye opener. If you could understand this, you might be a bit more sensitive to it.

Because it's so debated and ingrained in every American's head right now, let’s use illegal Mexicans as an example. Say Mary is a hardworking Mexican-American. She's a natural born US citizen, but growing up with a different colored skin and an accent in her speech, has lead to a hard life of racism and ridicule while growing up. Maybe her parents did come here illegally. Maybe much of her family did. But they have all since, spent many years taking classes and filling out forms, to finally become US citizens (side note- my in-laws know more about this country and the constitution than I do). Now Mary overhears some employees she works with, joking about boarder-jumpers, and feels degraded, ashamed, and has had her self esteem lowered.

In the work place, maybe you're telling your "off color" joke to someone you know will appreciate it. But the thing is, you never know who might overhear. And that can lead to YOU loosing your job, and the company getting sued for harboring a hostile work environment. Why do you think that is? If a joke is just a joke, then why wouldn't a court of law agree with you? Guess what? On the internet, EVERYONE is overhearing you. Not smart.

Get mad at me if you want, but that's just how it is. Take the blinders off, stop trying to defend yourself, and actually try to imagine what it might be like for the people who find these types of "jokes" offensive.

Hey valdrak, not too far away in Raleigh there, nice! I'm in Greenville, hit me up if you're ever over this way, maybe we could grab a beer or coffee and a vape? Anyway, the look over shoulder thing, the people know what they are about to say is offensive, so they have to check who's around before they say it....

Anyway, I'll try my hand at another:

One day while enjoying a vape, a man came upon a wild dog attacking a young boy, he quickly grabbed the animal and throttled it with his two hands. He let out a sigh of relief and took a final relaxing puff before putting his PV away.
A reporter saw the incident, congratulated the man and told him the headline the following day would read, "Smoking Man Saves Child by Killing Vicious Animal."
The hero, however, told the journalist that he was no longer a smoker.
"Well, then," the reporter said, "the headline will probably say, "Man Saves Child by Killing Dog And Immediately Quits Smoking."
"Actually," the man said, "I quit smoking some time ago with the help of my bloog."
"In that case," the reporter said in a huff, "the headline will read, "Rude Insensitive Cult Member Kills Family Pet."

-hmm, I dunno about that one, maybe?

Dragging storys about hardship of mexican people into a joke thread with a WORDPLAY on a mexican word is insane!(ya now i got personal too)

I will defend the right of free speach without sensorship any time any place.. There are Muslims searching for a certain dane, wanting to kill him, just because he made a drawing of there god! He life is over and he lives in exile last i heard.... That is not ok, we should NOT accept their rules in our country, just because they try to bully us.

. The Germans came to Denmark and tried to take over our country. Do you think for a minute i would be offended if i heard a German tell a joke on the danish? NO! cus im damn smarter than that. I honestly wouldnt care.

My parents had a friend once, that was black... They grew apart cus eeevery little freakin thing he saw as meant derogatory on him.. They could be talking about cakes, and the dude suddenly could make about the black n white. Just because white people hurt black people doesnt give them the right to punish every white person they meet

It is called insecurity and the oversensitive should get some help with that and not try to drag everybody else down to their level. Because it is details like that that start freakin wars, and I say go get some real problems, cus this mission aint gonna fly. Who are you to decide what is racist or not. YOu think its ok to be rude to some one you dont know, just because you feel like it??? See what you've accomplished to spread here? The happiest forum on ecf. You defend your right to be hateful and see things negatively. I think you should cut it out, lighten up.

This is NOT the place for you to lecture, and you are not smarter than everybody else, as you seem to think.

Real racism would be if valdrak was mexican and someone told him he couldnt be here because of it. A wordplay on a word is NOT racist. YOu are still the only one that wrote something derogatory, and beeing rude.

Just because you think people should be more unhappy and insecure, because you know people who are, doesnt mean we have to..
