I've been here over a year and a half and I'm seeing more posts of people who used to post here - went back to smokes and are now coming back here to 'try again'. This is a fairly new 'phenomena' - not that there weren't some earlier - just that I'm seeing it more these days. So despite all the problems people can have starting up - esp. if they got ripped on bad models, the urge to quit is still there and they decide to come in more focused this time... Again, no 'scientific' studies here but just an observation by someone who's been paying attention.

Count me among the people Kent is talking about :)

I think it mainly falls on the resourcefulness of people as individuals.

Many of you guys on this thread explained how you got introduced to E-cigs through ads, shops, etc.. but as we all know, most of those streamlined establishments were sub-par. But you decided to do some research, and that's how you got here.

My very first E-cig was actually the Smoking Everywhere that I found on the internet while searching for low price analog cartons online. I was fascinated with the idea, but unfortunately bought the SE through impulse, and was very disappointed to find out how terribly it functions. It didn't stop me though, I simply went online and started searching again.. I came up on ECF, and the rest was history.

I think the switch to E-cigs takes 2 things:

-Being open to new ideas
-The desire to really want to get away from burning tobacco.

Both have to be present in the mindset of someone in order to successfully make the switch.

IMHO, vaping as a way to quit smoking is not for everyone. After trying different brands the first few years, I settled on Marlboro Reds and kept on smoking 1.5 packs a day for the last 40 years.

When I ran out, there was always the next convenience store, supermarket, or gas station. I never had any desire to change brands.

Now, people have to choose amongst the following options: analog look alikes, tube mods, box mods, standard voltage, high voltage, high resistance, standard resistance, low resistance, two piece, three piece, carts, mega carts, tanks, cartomizers, fluxomizers, gigantomizers, clearomizers, bottom feeders, tank feeders,PG/VG ratio, and a gazillion different flavors that are available. I am sure there are things that I have forgotten.

If you like to tinker, you can transform your cigarette cessation into a full time hobby because Vaping is one activity that knows no limits. One can rebuild attys, modify delivery systems, batteries, build mods, and blend juices. I have about 30 different flavors of concentrate on hand.

Then you have all of the maintenance issues from keeping your batteries charged to keeping your attys/juice delivery system topped off and stocked up.

Most people have trouble remembering to wipe their.................never mind. It used to be a standard joke in college fraternities and dorms about getting the most out of a pair of briefs: you turn them inside out. Sadly, it's true. Ladies, don't laugh because you are no better.

People don't wash themselves, change their oil, clean their houses, check their tires, or even pay their bills on time.

Vaping is complicated, but I love it. On April 20, it will be one full year for me. My daughter put a gun to my head when I asked what she wanted as a gift for her MBA.

I am a widower and lost my beautiful wife to cancer 3 years ago. We do not believe it was tobacco related and was truly a weird and rare form of this ruthless killer. You can guess what her request was: my quitting.

Don't expect everyone to succeed with vaping. It just will not happen.

I read and read, this website has been a god-send.

After a month or two reading, i planned and bought.

after the second day i realized i wasn't smoking analogs anymore, just today i grabbed a dead battery was in town with a friend and tried to puff off his, i coughed like a first timer.

i doubt i'll ever go back.

long story short, if you want to help your friends do so, help them give them advice on what to get, and even if they tried the kiosk BS, have them try again!

You're only speaking for yourself here.
You may, however, also be speaking for many others as well.

But I have seen TONS of people stop smoking by getting a better device.
It happens all the time around here.

I myself have stopped vaping and come back to it. For me, I had to make vaping a lot more convenient. No toppoffs every time I vape. No f'ing cart mods. No trying to decide when to throw out atomizers. And I got honest with myself about the nicotine level I need to stay off the cigarettes. 36 mg only for me now. Tried to do it with non-tobacco flavors but that didn't work. 36 mg Dekang Camel works well in my 510 with carto. I got an unexpected bonus because it's costing me less money to vape than it did before.

Looking for the all day vape and the perfect ecig is like looking for the Holy Grail.

I was the exact same way. Bought a starter kit from a mall kiosk a little over a year ago and spent way too much on atomizers and juice. Went back to analogs for a few months. Was doing some random browsing around my birthday and got a 510 box, cartos, and my first dekang juice. Just tried to keep it simple and cheap, loving vaping alot more now than I did! Little over 2 weeks of analogs.

Yep, I'm with the general consensus that without this forum, I probably couldn't have done it.

I think there are a lot of Type A's, OCD's, etc. that get into this and that helps with this method.

The support here is invaluable. I for one will not go back. I refuse to fail and I think I'm subconsciously making it so dang expensive that I couldn't afford to smoke if I wanted to! And like someone earlier said, the easier you make it and the less hassle it is, the better.

To me it was a fluke and I was lucky. It was winter my daughter was going to have a baby and I was going to stay at her home where I always smoked outside.I saw an electronic cig on The Housewives of Beverly Hills and thought gee a temporary solution.Great! I'll try it.No intention of quitting smoking farthest thing from my mind.Just wanted to stay warm and make my daughter happy.I was lucky in that I found this site and picked a supplier on the boards. As soon as I got it I looked at my daughter and said."I just smoked my last cigarette". She laughed. That was Jan 16th of this year.I had 3 cartons of analogs sitting at home.I haven't smoked analogs since. My husband took my cigs to the Elks Club and passed them out amongst the smokers.I thank the Housewives of Beverly Hills, this board and Liberty Flights.I won't be swimming in the analog pool ever again.

I got my mom started on it the end of last year and she was a true chain smoker. She would use one cigarette to light the next and would do that from the time she got up until she went to bed. She would even wake up in the middle of the night to smoke. She did this for over 30 years. The day she smoked her last pack of cigarettes she started vaping and is now doing very little of that so she is completely smoke free and almost vape free as well. I myself may never stop vaping because I enjoy it so much but at least I am no longer smoking. It's been over six months for me and I feel like a new person I can breathe again!

My sister in law on the other hand is another story. I got her into vaping before my mom. She is/was maybe a half a pack a day smoker if even that much. She will vape for a few days the most being 6 days and then comes up with some excuse to smoke a cigarette. The first time it was that the battery went dead well DUH that's why you charge one while your using one! The next was because she found out her daughter has brain cancer and at the hospital she told me "I just can't do it right now I HAVE TO HAVE A CIGARETTE my nerves are just to shot for anything else to work". Excuse me but if I found out my daughter had brain cancer I wouldn't ever want to even look at another cigarette knowing THEY CAUSE CANCER!!! Just the other day her excuse was "Haley (my niece) is really being disrespectful and rude I don't even want one but I think I'm going to go buy a pack of cigarettes just to make her mad since she wants me to quit so bad that will really tic her off". Yes this is a grown woman I'm talking about even thought it sure the heck doesn't sound like one.

Then there is my neighbor she started on a 4081 and had troubles sticking with it but she fought hard and only had one cigarette in the morning for a long while but then she relapsed and went back to smoking more than vaping. I also started and quit smoking with a 4081 so I gotta love the 4081 no matter what :). I bought a Ego for the longer lasting battery and I told my neighbor about it and how great it was. She didn't buy herself one so after a couple of weeks I ordered her a Riva and guess what, I just got a message from her on facebook a couple of weeks ago telling me that the Riva is the best thing that ever happened to her that she hasn't had a cigarette in weeks and doesn't even want one and that I was her true lifesaver.

There are some that can pick up a pv and never touch another cigarette and are even able to put down the pv later and be free from it all. Then there are some people out there that want to quit and try hard but sometimes it just doesn't work (or they need a different pv). Then there are ones like my sister in law that SAY they want to quit but the whole time are sneaking off smoking.

Sorry about the ranting and rambling but I was just wanting to share my stories too :).
