Wanting to quit smoking is definitely a requirement for quitting, and it sure worked for me. I couldn't stand what smoking was doing to me. I met an old man at the bank who lit up on his way out, and I told him about ecigs. He blew me off very fast as he walked away and said nothing could compare to the real thing.

That is certainly his choice, but I could tell he was already badly affected by his smoking, and it was going to get him in the end. He just didn't want to quit. But I think most people do.

I know two young people (thirty-something), totally unaffected by their smoking, who couldn't quit fast enough when they discovered ecigs (thanks to me...haha). They're the lucky ones because although they got to enjoy smoking for a few years, they stopped before it hurt them. Got to admit, some young folks are just plain smart. :)

Oh and the denial. It's so easy to convince yourself that cigarettes are not killing you. That your symptoms are not from smoking. That you are fine. That you have many years of smoking left. That you won't get BLADDER TUMORS and piss blood and have to get your bladder reconstructed from your intestines.

QUIT ANALOGS NOW!

I'm sorry but I've skimmed this and I have to respectfully disagree about this not being a "magic bullet" as I quit smoking totally by accident using these things. I originally found this site and looked it up for my friend that has to quit to stay insured at his job. I was happy smoking and didn't have any reason to quit, didn't even care that they were killing me to be honest. Anyway as I read this forum and other sites, I learned about stealth vaping and figured that I could have my cake and eat it too. That I could smoke when I wanted and when I couldn't I'd still have this kewl toy that I could play with and modify etc. and use it where I couldn't smoke even if discreetly. Well I was jazzed and justified it by telling him I'd do it with him as support but would still smoke.

So I got us a pair of DSE901's I ordered mine with an extra battery as the starter kit only came with 1. Since I wasn't quitting I saw that they had interesting flavors that I could try with it so I chose irish cream. When they came in it worked out right that i'd finished a pack about 10 min b4 it was charged. And I started using it. B4 I knew it I had went all the rest of that evening without a cig, I was using my new toy a lot, but I'm like that w/ just about everything. so didn't think anything of how much I was using it. So I didn't bother opening another pack. and kept vaping. A few days goes by at 18mg and I did actually start craving because I got upset about something and just needed what I was missing to calm down.

Anyway, I tried a cig and I actually had to choke it down to get what i needed I hated the taste so much. and don't think i've had 6 since. but now I don't see why i should keep smoking, I just need to find what's missing (but that was discussed in another thread) I prefer vaping well over cigs, and i never meant to at all.

My friend however still has to give his e-cig a proper chance - he has cut down using it but it's still got to be a tobacco flavor etc. I think when/if he gives it a chance (he's always been slow to change - ever since middle school) But the second the battery's dead (he doesn't think he should need a 2nd 1 despite my explanations - perhaps after i build a decent battery mod) he's lighting up again.

Perhaps maybe it's not that you have to want to quit but merely have to be willing to actually use it.

I can't believe that i'm the only person who's quit accidentally.

Oh youre not :) I didnt even want to quit just cut down, but I quit anyway, I call it quitting 'against my wishes' lol I liked my smokes with a good capuccino - but they were really the only ones I 'liked'. The others were all habit and made me feel bad by the end of the day, still did it though. I had no expectations about PV at all when i got mine - I thought it was a neat idea but I didn't thnk much further than that. COming to ECF I got more interested a everyone seemed enthusiastic, but I still didnt want to quit (I came here first and got a 510 based on advice).
My first 10 days of using hte PV I still smoked, but everyday was less and less as the 'urge' to have a cig became less; and I found I wanted my PV more and more. Eventually (day 10) I thought it was pretty pointless to keep using cigs at all, as I was only on 2 (down from just over PAD) so I stopped. That was december.
I agree that unless someone is interested enough to try a PV, and do their OWN research, then they won't use it right or give up with it. The forum here has been a goldmine of info and help for people who ARE so motivated.

I've ran into the same disgruntled and disappointed would-be vapers. It's really upsetting that there are so many who really wanted to stop cigarettes but were knocked back by crappy, and usually expensive, e-cigs.
I stress, and I mean stress, to those people and everyone who even seems slightly interested, that they come here to the forums first and read, ask, and study for just a few days. A visit and study here will put them on the right path.
Read forums, then order.

I know when I found this place it was a life saver for me. I had already ordered a blu before I found this site. I was slightly disappointed in it, it wasn't really delivering like I suspected..so I went back to smoking cigarettes unless I was at work and smoked the blu at my desk..then I fell into a lake and it broke..I was sort of disillusioned with the idea of PVs and went back to smoking cigarettes...Then I found this forum..did some research..and got alot of my questions answered very thouroughly by very nice people here. And now Im the proud owner of a 510 and eGo..and havent looked back to cigs since

yeah right, but many of us still drink flavored sugar water (which is bad for us and makes us diabetic and rots our teeth) instead of V8 or some other healthy drink so i think it is just a matter of your personal focus. i think many of us are not concerned with health until we get sick.

Bingo! Human nature, denial. Being proactive takes intellect and evolves our species. Of course those of us who were/are smart enough to switch to vapor were/are dumb enough to smoke tobacco/analogs in the first place!

It's hard for me to describe what a blessing the e-cigarette has been for me without getting choked up. I tried so hard for so long (2 decades) to stay off cigarettes. The patches, the gum, the lozenges all helped to some extent, but I was never comfortable as a non-smoker. It wasn't just that I enjoyed smoking, it was that smoking helped me to cope with day to day life. The patches etc. just kept me from going postal on anyone when I wasn't smoking. I knew from the moment I tried my first e-cigarette that my whole world had changed.

It has now been over 7 months since my last cigarette. That's the longest I've gone without a cigarette in over 40 years. For me personally, the e-cigarette gives me everything that a regular cigarette use to give me and without the terrible guilt.

I have had moments over the past 7 months when I wanted a cigarette, but I could make them pass quickly with just a few good vapes. I have turned 3 people on to the e-cigarettes and 2 are still vaping.

I will be eternally grateful to this forum for making this an easier transition.

I got my ecig hoping to quit smoking instantly. I had read so many success stories here of people quitting the day their pv came and thought it would be like that for me. I had sort of set myself up to fail. As soon as I had problems or frustrations, first I would come here, read, post, ask for help. Then go have a cigarette. Then I'd come back in and there'd be like 5-10 answers to my questions and I'd go checking all the links, rereading, printing and trying it out, ordering supplies, juice, a chuck...retail therapy.

No one I knew had ever heard of vaping and I didn't tell anyone for a while (read weeks, months even in some cases). Even my husband was initially not supportive. He thought it would look silly. But the more I read, and the more I tried different juices, the more I knew I would make it work for me eventually. He of course has come around, and uses an ecig too, but without a desire to quit. I think after I quit and don't want to kiss him cause he's stinky, he'll want to quit.

It has taken a really long time and I'm not sure I'm there yet. I've been 37 hours without a cigarette. My goal is 48. I have been wanting quitting to come easily so much that I sabotaged my efforts every time I got frustrated. I've been able to slowly work my way down to 1-2 a day, but it's a mental effort. I don't have withdrawal symptoms really, and I have all the right equipment. So I decided I needed to challenge myself. Really challenge myself. It's not gonna happen accidentally for me. I have to work at it, and that's ok.

Whenever I tell myself "that's my last one" I get stressed and worried and end up having another right away. So I'm gonna set goals of 48 hours, 72 hours, a week, two weeks, for as long as it takes until I try one and go yuck and put it out after the first drag. I know I can do it. It just means staying the course. And when I get to the end of 48 hours tonight at midnight, I have options. I can say I made my goal, and light up, or I can say, see, that wasn't so hard. Let's go for 72 without lighting up.

First vape i had I knew right away that it could help me quitting analogs. Although it was mall bought, I know that there are better models out there and that I can find a way to get a better one. Used that mall bought PV unitl it broke down, then bought another cheaper one while I was searching for a good supplier. Now I have a 901 and happy with it. I am thinking of upgrading to a riva the moment I break even.

Success in smoking cessation will always be subjective. I do know that this is the longest that I have been able to stay away from cigarettes thanks to vaping. Some people may indeed be able to pick up an e-cig and never look back. Based on feedback from people in this and other forums, that effect is certainly not ubiquitous - many people do continue to experience withdrawal from the smoking experience. My point is simple - for a new person who is attempting to quit smoking with the help of vaping, continued cravings is not a sign of failure. It is also not a sign that purchasing yet another mod will scratch the itch. Quitting smoking is difficult, and some people may find it more difficult than others. Suggesting that a person in withdrawal simply purchase a new device is not necessarily the answer, and will only enrich the merchant. Perhaps there is a psychological impact to the "mailman stalking" excitement as well as the first day or two with a new mod. Perhaps that excitement can help to get a quitter over a temporary setback. But really, how many times can this cycle be repeated without breaking the bank? It all boils down to one size does not fit all. I'm glad that I am no longer a slave to cigarettes. I will be doubly pleased when I am also not a slave to a PV. I can be patient, and I hope that when I get to month three without cigarettes, I will find the process even easier.

While I tend to agree with you about what you said and say in this post... I will also say that I started on a DSE901 and was Ok on it... BUT I got my eGo yesterday...and while this may have nothing to do with my nic addiction or anything I have found that I get better flavor from the juices I'm using. I also had a friend who tried my 901 she sorta wanted one but wasn't thoroughly impressed with it. Showed her my eGo yesterday and let her try it once....and she's going to order it today!! So yes I agree...but if it's taste or throat hit a person who is having trouble with this needs...then a mod MIGHT be the way to go.

I too am one of those who seem to have "accidentally" quit. The first one I had (before I found ECF et al) was a Blu. I found it intriguing, thought it would be a good way to get nicotine where I couldn't smoke and at that point I had no intention of giving up the analogs.

It is what it is and seems to work out okay for some but for me, a person who had smoked rather heavily for nearly 36 years, the Blu was frustrating and I kept going back to the pack or two of analogs that I still had a death-grip (pun intended) on. But it did give me enough of an intro to vaping that I was too curious not to continue researching it for a better way. I can't help it - I have a strong perfectionist streak in my personality. lol After finding the 510 megas, I had found something that was satisfying me. I actually preferred it to analogs. As my sense of smell and taste began returning I was there -- I knew I would be a dedicated vaper. :2cool:

My wife and I started learning to DIY juices and we love the control it gives us over nic levels and flavor. We started some friends on vaping and now they are off cigs too. We just keep working on getting the word out. :)

I didn't start vaping to quit cigs, but I sure am glad it happened!

Accidental quitter of analogs here too. I got my Blu out of sheer curiosity after I saw my son & his wife using them. I received it on 3/30/2010 at 2:52pm and have not smoked a real cigarette since then. The Blu was frustrating and I wasn't getting enough nicotine, but I found this site and worked through it by buying better equipment and juices.

I hadn't intended to quit. I was up to smoking 3 packs a day and started 40 years ago. I loved smoking and didn't want to quit despite the fact that there was nothing good or right about it. After those first few draws on the Blu I knew I had found an obvious and much better alternative. So I thank Blu for providing the stepping stones. I thank everyone here for the shared knowledge and support.

Just as I am a lover not a fighter, I am now also a vaper not a smoker. :) e-cigs 4 ever! Congrats to all of us that have found them and each other.

Well I came across an e–cig site free trail on the net and the information they provided intrigued me, so what the hell I ordered one. A few hours later I checked my bank activity and noticed I was charged 3 times what they said. Well I then started looking into this and read what a scam they were. So I canceled the card which would stop any charges, I did received the product which worked for about as long as the carts held out ( I now just add a few drops to the addy if I want a quick hit of a different flavor, the devise can’t be vaped ) but I also realized vaping would work for me. So I then did some research found the right products, found this site and smoking as I knew it for 45 years is now a thing of the past. Thankful of the information here.
:toast: Enjoy

I always knew I could not quit smoking. I heard about e-cigarettes and knew it was the only chance I had to quit putting all those deadly chemicals in my body. It took effort. Not so much because of the change but more because of malfunctioning equipment and not enough supplies. Now, I'm stocked up. I had several people offer me cigarettes yesterday and turned them down every single time.

I'm a new vaper (less than a week). It's hard getting away from regular cigs. I've tried cold turkey which didn't work. I've tried simply limiting myself which didn't work either because I always knew they were there and my impulse control isn't the best.

I feel like I let myself down by thinking this will be the "magic bullet" that gets me to quit but I realized that I don't work that way. I got over excited. But I do notice that I am smoking less analogs and thats a plus in my book. I'm still excited about vaping and I know that once I experiment with more juices and maybe bump up the nicotine content I'll be much happier. Once I find the proper throat hit I'm looking for I can see myself cutting out analogs. Like others have said it's a learning process.
