I had a chance to re-check the voltage drop since putting the new contacts in my grand... From the numbers I'm getting it would seem I am getting a .15 voltage drop in total...

Battery: Panasonic CGR 4.06v
Coil: 27g 8 wrap 1/16" .9Ω

battery fired w/o atty 3.84v <.22 voltage drop
battery fired w/ atty 3.69v <.37 voltage drop

Just installed my new contacts and am loving it.

I may have to do a few cosmetic mods, this RM2 is a bit too shiny compared to the one my friend lost. Brass looks so much nicer :)

That and my 2.1 could use some love from Mother's aluminum polish ;)

Edit: Has anyone seen these Purple Efest 18500's? I wonder how they'd compare to my old and probably damaged AW 18490.

I just ordered a 2nd set of purples mid week (decide to keep my 2.1) to go along with the pair I got a month ago...I can't speak to the life span in as far as cycles go but for an 18500 they are punchy...I'm not a super big fan of normal Efests (they seem to have a short effective cycle life span with a quick charge drop off) but I've been treating the purples like my Sony's, .5 ohms worth of duals and they deliver...batt life suffers if you load them like that obviously but if you're using tired AW's it will seem like black and white.

The way I see it, for $16/pair...if they last 5-6 months performing like they do, meh...worth it

5-6 months ? Heck I have aw imrs that are 3 years old and they work great. So why not just buy them ?

Even though AW's have an equal if not better continuous discharge they don't seem to match the purples surge current (I keep wanting to say fault current)...I'm a 5 second vape guy...in the short race the purples take the AW's (IMO and purely anecdotal)...

Let the flaming begin but again, it's only my findings...I recognize that the AW's are overall the better batt but the purples seem to do what "I" want a batt to do better.

I'm not trying to be a flames here  just more than anything asking a question see if you only get a few months for them thar purple batts and I get several years outa aw's why not ?? But then I'm a cheapo and will save a buck where I can. If that means spending a dollar or so more to start I'm all for it :)

I'm running 1.7 ohm coils and can tell absolutely no difference in battery life or how hard it hits between 18490 Efest Red and 18490 AW IMR's. The AW's cost a lot more than Efest/Sanyo/Panasonic in Australia, a lot, not just a little, even more than a VTC5. I'll let you know which ones wear out the quickest :) Of course, if I had a sub ohm coil I might notice a difference, who knows. Can't wait for the sub ohm kits to arrive, hopefully one more wrap on the coil and slightly longer battery life, and big clouds of vapor ;)

i have had AW batteries that lasted well over a year and have had some last me 7/8 month range. Had to recently toss one that was not even a year on it so in my history of using AW for the last 3 years they have been generally good batts, but a few have not lasted. I use Sonys now. Will see how long they hold up. So far so good. Haven't tried any Efest Imrs. just the 18500 reds. Seem to be good. Have been wondering should I get some purple Imrs..

The red 18650. 1600mah Aws have been good batts. Overall, Aw,Sony,Efest Seem to be good batts. Panasonics have been great for higher ohm coils too. Still have Orbtronics. 18650s going after a Years use but don't sub ohm with them.

dont know if getting years out of any batts are in the cards for me. lol

Must be a vaping style thing...I ran AW's from the beginning and I'd get 6-8 good months out of them...then I jumped into a Panasonic coop for the CGR18650CH's...I've recently moved to Sony's for discharge reasons and like Doots said, only time will tell with their lifespan but the Panasonic's are the only batt I've had that lasted more than a year.

...for me, fresh horses every 6 months is just the cost of doing business...I mean I drop $25-$100 on RDA's to play with all the time, spending $20 every 6 months for a pair of good batts seems reasonable considering they're kind of a key component of what we're doing :2c:

Man, you had better luck with those batteries than I did. I got the Panasonics from the coop and they MIGHT have lasted eight months.

They were also a bit too long for my Reos. I couldn't remove them without putting an electrical tape "tab" to grab hold of. Any idea of how the Sony's compare to the AW1600 in length?

Also, can anyone explain the difference between the VTC4 and VTC5? Looking at the RTDVapor site, the mAh is the only thing I can tell. I vape right around 0.9-1.0 ohm. Would one be better suited for me than the other?

Yeah the Pannys are a little long..

The VTC4 and 5's difference are int he Mah. The 5 giving you a little bit longer vape time.

The AW 18650 and the SONYS VTC4's are about the same length with the VTC4 being a flattop and the AW being a button Top. The SONY VTC4 button tops are a hair longer than the AW 1600Mah batts,, By 1/2 to 1mm longer. Fit the Reo fine in button top or Flattop.

The Panasonics are a long batt, of the 10 I got, 4 fit my 1 Grand at that time, my other mods were mech tele's (had I had more Grands Like I do now I'd have been p*#s'd)...when I was using them I was a 1.5 ohm guy, that may have been why they lasted me longer, I wasn't stressing them like you.

On the Sony's...I bought 2 pairs of 4's just before the 5's came out (story of my life)...would I have bought the 5's? probably but in reality, I need two batts to get me through the day now that I love the .5 dual thing, I'm not sure the 5's slight mAh increase would change that...

I've been thinking of placing a battery order. Since it seems like the VTC4's fit a Grand well, I believe I will give a couple of those a try. (and a pair of AW's for insurance in case I don't like them)

Thanks for the info!

the reason i like the 1600 AW's is it has a longer peak output range than the earlier choices shown in graphs; and the fact that they are 15c rated (not 10c as some think) meaning super Amp rating.

anybody know how these newer batts stack up that way?

I made this from some test I found.
