Hi Ladybug,

I'm in the UK so got my Stick through iVapour. It rocks! Excellent vapour, great battery life and comes with a passthrough. It's plastic and you'll find the paint starts to come off of the end after a while - but I've had mine since May 25 and love it! Can't comment on the Dura-C but I know that there are others who can help you on that. :)

Thanks for your info pipeman!

Both the stick and the Dura-C are sound purchases, but fill different needs. If you like the penstyle vape then the stick will provide that in bucketloads, despite its plastic construction its a great vape.

The dura doesnt have the battery runtime but is a proven performer and many people swear by it. If you are prepared to carry a few spare batteries and fill the cart regularly, its a great choice.

There are risks with buying any new product, I agree there. However remember Janty provide a superb warranty.

Andy

Thank you froggy,:D

No, I do NOT like carrying around extras and always topping off. I can't reuse the squeeze either. The Stick is sounding better with each reply.

Hi All,

This is totally a user-error story. Please don't flame me on this post. I struggled with if I should post this or not, but finally decided to so others would learn from a mistake.

I love my Janty Stick. I love it so much, I bought one for my mom.

My mom one day thought that the lack of vapor coming from her Janty was due to the battery needing replaced (I suspect she just needed to clean the atomizer). So, she took the battery out and switched over to the spare one I had got her.

She installed the battery backwards, and when she would press the button, of course nothing would happen. She assumed the battery needed charging, and proceeded to plug in the Janty Stick into the USB port of her computer to charge it.

She immediately heard snapping and crackling, and quickly unplugged the unit. I haven't been to see it yet, but she said it smelled like burnt plastic, and that after turning the battery around, it still would not turn on.

I suspect the charging circuit inside it is totally fried, or perhaps the battery has been damaged. I'll know more tomorrow.

Any ways, to those who have not-so-technical or mechanically inclined parents/relatives/friends that introduced them to vaping, PLEASE make sure they know the right way to install their batteries.

I totally know this is user error, so I don't expect anything from Janty to fix/replace the unit. I sent them a similar message as this post last week asking they update their user documentation to warn people about this.

On another note, I also suggested to Janty that they add to the charging circuitry a way to detect an inverted battery's polarity, and disable the charging circuit. I don't know how difficult this would be. When plugged in, the unit has power from the computer, so should be able to add a circuit to check battery polarity, and if not inverted, charge. If inverted, flash a light pattern. It was lucky that the battery did not explode, or the unit catch fire. This safety feature should really be investigated and added to prevent possible future problems.

Again, I love my Janty Stick, and just bought two more, one to replace my mom's, and one for my dad for Father's Day. This is the best unit I've found to date, and have tried many others. Great work Janty, and keep up the innovation!

Ron
Janty should replace it, if there was no instruction book included with it. And Janty fails to place a positive sign or sticker with +. Thats the fault of Janty. Look at any other piece of electronics, they all have those indications of Positive +, or Negative -

Thanks for the informative post. You probably saved a few people from committing the same error.

Btw, there is a simple fix to this. The use of a diode inside the charging unit would prevent this from happening. A diode only allows DC current to pass in one direction. I wouldn't be too quick to claiming guilt via user error here.

the battery is a 10440.
10mmX44MM There is no other size. Ultra fire batterys clam to have 500mah in the 10440 but that is not very likley and should be assumed that 500mah is peak preformace.
Also note that the 10440 is unprotected so discharging below 2.8V would be a hazard.
You could use a usb battery back up.
another fourm poster noted that they are under 20 bucks and you can find them anywhere. They should deliver 4-5 volts and give you that hit that the usb pass through gives you.
Does the Stick have a protection IC (PCB) to keep battery from overcharge and over discharge, most chargers do. The cost of $3.20 Janty sells their battery is to me unprotected. A protected battery cost $8 to $12 dollars.
Or just buy from Janty $3.20 a battery

The only thing I don't like about it is that battery cover. The grooves should have been a little bigger, so a dime would fit. When the warentee expires, I'm going to glue a little dowel or something on there so I don't need a screwdriver to change the batts.

"Vapes great with my beci 801 atomizer"

What is beci? Who did you get your ecig from?

Thanks!

He is talking about the 801 atomizer he bought for the Stick, which is the BE112, that is their 801 atomizer from BestEcig-Newest Mini E-cigarette|E-cigarette|wholesale e-liquid
which I also bought, 5 for $35.00, and works great with the stick. OK MY TEXAS CUTIE PIE

I gotta wonder why you would look for a battery?
The stick batteries are small and easy to carry. Do what I did...buy 4 extra batteries and a charger and you're set.

I've been getting a consistent 4 hours from the batteries consistently smoking. At work, I only use the battery I used in the morning. I have my USB passthru in the car connected to the USB adapter.

Overall, I gotta say that the stick battery beats the Dura battery hands down. But the vapor is lighter still and you still need to "drip" every 30 minutes or so.

Has anyone looked into finding slightly higher voltage batteries that would fit into the Stick?

I'm trying to research this but I'm having difficulty finding the physical sizes of battery candidates. Something close to the original Stick battery even with a slight mod seems to be do-able, no? I'd sacrifice some ma hours for slightly more voltage.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

If you want a 5v vaping experience get a Prodigy............I think the stick works just fine as is........

It appears that I may have started worrying prematurely. I just tried a fresh battery and the atomizer seems to be fine. Either I used the battery more than I thought or it doesn't hold much of a charge.

You should expect anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours for a Dura-C battery.

As for juice...yes, you should follow your operating instructions if you expect the warranty to be honored.

I use Totally Wicked juice now. Works fine. But I don't expect warranty repair...when all is said and done, atomizers should be treated as "disposable" around a month or so.

I have been vaping for about three weeks now and started out with a M401. I didn't care for the flavor of the carts but ordered soem JC Tenn Cured and loved it. I found that I needed to fill the carts often. Not a problem while sitting at the computer at work. I could charge and switch batteries and top off the cart right at my desk. The problem comes when I am not near a desk or power source. It just made it harder to vape. I would pull over on drives to top off or switch carts and batteries.

So I bought the JS and it arrived last Friday. I figured a couple of days working in the atty to get rid of the bad taste. What I have found is that I am having to top off the carts almost as much as the 401 and going though alot more juice. Also the flavor does not seem to be as good as the 401 using the same juice. I did the straw mod on the stick and it helped a little but it just does not taste as good as the 401. I get the horrible burning taste sometimes. I also mixed my Tenn Cured 2 to 1 with some JC cherry and that has helped a little with the flavor. Everything I have done to the stick I have then tried with the 401 and it just makes the 401 better too. I know they are coming out with an adapter to use the 401 atty but then I am back in the same boat with the small 401 carts.

Any thoughts on why this is. What could I do to enjoy the stick more?

Thanks

Dan

I returned my stick for similar reason. It did not produce good taste and vapor was not so good either. Also had burnt taste after 20-30 puffs on full cart. I changed attys, batteries, juices without any improvement. I sent it back and got refund right away. Thanks, Janty for that. I might give it a try on next version especially with good refund policy.

Well, I got an e-mail today saying my Dura-C has shipped. That is 8 days from my order date. Not great but not too bad I guess.

I placed my order with Janty(Europe) on 6/5/09, and received an e-mail that my order was shipped on 6/8/09, also it would take 4-8 days to receive it. Well today is 6/22/09 and still haven't received it from Janty Europe. This will be my first e-cig, so I'm very excited, I want to quit analogs all together. Please let me know when you get your order. They need to update their times for delivery to their clients. I guess I will wait another week to see what happens!

Does the Stick have a protection IC (PCB) to keep battery from overcharge and over discharge, most chargers do. The cost of $3.20 Janty sells their battery is to me unprotected. A protected battery cost $8 to $12 dollars.
Or just buy from Janty $3.20 a battery

until now i have not seen any 10440 protected battery, no ultrafire or trustfire, and don't believe their 600mAH, they don't last longer than other 10440.

i made the error to think they are protected, because the cutoff and fullcharge voltages are printed on their body. but that does not mean they are protected.

and yes the stick has the PCB inside, for now i will stick with jantys own batteries. they deliver the needed current longer than those Ultrasfires.

The thing about shipping stuff from Europe to the US. Sometimes it can be here in a week, sometimes it takes a month. Depends on how it was shipped, whether it gets stuck in customs for a few days, etc etc.

I've shipped to Canada from the US and it took 2 1/2 weeks. Another time it was 4 or 5 days. No telling sometimes with our *wonderful* postal service here in the states.
