Where is your coil placed in relation to the posts? What size coil is it? Also what flavor are you using? I have one of my 3 adv's and sadly my main, skittles, that I get zero flavor with rayon at all. Haven't tried with the merlin but have in my skittles boreas tank and my limitless. No issues with the other flavors I make but skittles for some reason.

I'm using an alien coil, 5 wraps on a 3mm I.D rod, comes out to .45ohms.
I'm running it at 400f and 35watts. I've tried it hotter and at 50watts, and it was too hot on my lips. Good clouds though.
I haven't used this alien wire before, I'm thinking it could have something to do with the muted flavour, or unusual taste. Its had a few tanks of juice through the tank, so any taste from the wire or tank should be gone, and only the juice taste remaining.
I will try 2 strands of twisted 28g Ti when I get around to it, I find Ti has no taste.
If I could taste the juice I'd leave it alone.
The coil is positioned almost level with the top holes.
I cut the rayon level with the outer edge of the tank, fluffed it out a bit and tucked it down past the juice flow holes into the cup below it.
It's not spilled a drop and is wicking well, no dry hits even if I chain vape.

That is odd indeed then. Haven't used aliens myself but everyone I've seen raves about them. Are they ka1? I typically use n80 due to not liking the flavor I get from ka1. I normally use fused but occasionally go with a single core clapton paralleled with a flat baztard or twisted claptons. What flavor was it you're using?

That's really weird. Are you sure the oring isn't stuck under the top cap? Mine do that sometimes.

It doesn't say what the wire is manufactured from, other than 0.3 -0.8 -32ga.
Watermelon flavour.

I was finally able to get one of my Merlin's so I could MTL. I used the ideas of 2 of the guys here. I can't remember who they were but I think one was Ricks. I put a 1.5mm ID 28ga coil inside the bottom of the reducer. It was a nice snug fit so it shouldn't fall out and then I used 2 silicone tank bands at the bottom to stop the air at the top & bottom of the AFC ring. It looks funny but I will only use it to stealth vape where I'm not suppose to vape. The MTL draw is not the same for everyone, that's why they make adjustable air slots. We need an adjustable reducer or like another person said, several different size air hole reducers as an accessory.

I'm assuming you mean the lip of the reducer? I tried a 2mm coil like you did but it wouldn't fit into the bottom of the reducer. It was too big so I tried a 1.5mm coil and that fit in there tight. I haven't taped the bottom of the base yet though but I think I'm still going to get air from the top of the AFC ring. :(

Yup, from the lip of the reducer. Did you insert the coil from the bottom of the reducer?

Yep. Did you see my post above? Thanks for that idea BTW. :)

Oh, cool. I'll jump through a lotta hoops myself to get a good solid MTL vape so it's always a pleasure to pass along any info that helps someone else too[emoji106]

Hey how would you compare this to your boreas. I love my Boreas and have considered the second roxy offering, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
About as airy as having 1 1/2 holes open on the Boreas and just as flavorful. Just as easy to build on too.

As another MTL vapor I'll say the only real change I felt that made this a solid choice was to also change to a narrow bore drip tip from the larger one provided. That and dialing it down to a little less than 1/4 open on the air slot (using the reducer it comes with in place) and it's fine for me.

While this may seem like a terrible thing to say I shall just go ahead with it. Yesterday I received a K5 clone from FT. Putting it to use caused my Merlin to become sidelined (temporarily), it's been laying on my desk now for about 24 hours and hasn't leaked a drop. As soon as I get enough ambition I'm going to revisit using the notch coil that came with it.

Speaking of Notch coils, here is what one looks like after about 250ml of gunking juice after a quick clean.

Also received my replacement deck from STS today So far zero seeping, which no matter how I wicked the original it seeped out the bottom. Just because I could, I tossed a 5mm id 22g 316L in it, works quite nicely all that coil and wick takes up the large majority of the chamber. Deck does have the oblong holes.
