Speaking of Notch coils, here is what one looks like after about 250ml of gunking juice after a quick clean.

Also received my replacement deck from STS today So far zero seeping, which no matter how I wicked the original it seeped out the bottom. Just because I could, I tossed a 5mm id 22g 316L in it, works quite nicely all that coil and wick takes up the large majority of the chamber. Deck does have the oblong holes.

While this may seem like a terrible thing to say I shall just go ahead with it. Yesterday I received a K5 clone from FT. Putting it to use caused my Merlin to become sidelined (temporarily), it's been laying on my desk now for about 24 hours and hasn't leaked a drop. As soon as I get enough ambition I'm going to revisit using the notch coil that came with it.
How is it?

The juice flow holes on my merlin are rectangular, on the deck and the chimney.

Got a 2nd black Merlin. Rectangular holes on build deck (new style). ROUND holes on chimney. Makes no sense. Came with all dark glass. It's been mentioned the newest, new black ones come with a CLEAR glass spare.

I'm kinda glad, my 1st Merlin with all round holes is perfect so far.

Na, had the DNA200 in mind, I pulled it already, I think 3 or 4mm is big as I'll go in it depending on what it is. the 5mm impeded airflow more then I cared for, flavor wasn't that great, put a 3mm 26g 316L in this time, again when the tank is empty I'm going to pull it, flavor is OK, but nothing great, maybe a little muted. So far for me its going to be 26x2/34 clapton or the notch, much better flavor.

I can see someone saying flavor isn't that great if they are using straight Kanthal or SS coils, If I hadn't tried the notch and clapton in it I would be completely underwhelmed. I don't mind winding up some claptons, but honestly I think I'll be buying some more notch coils. They can be had pretty inexpensively if you shop around, and the effort to performance ratio is pretty decent. That and they seem to hold up pretty well.

If you got it from STS more then likely it was one with a bad deck, and it was replaced with one he got from Augvape.

From my experience the old round holes wicked just fine even at higher power levels, just needs to be wicked for it.

@dwcraig1 hows the airflow on that 5? I was holding off hoping to find someone stocking the Tobeco, but I think I'll give the SMJY a shot, they seem to be banging out some decent clones IE Pico, Ravens moon, Xdream.

I'm liking these mkws notch coils which have been made with velocity deck in mind. $3.23 for 10.
$3.23 Authentic MKWS 316L Stainless Steel Notch Coil Wire for RBA Atomizers (10-Pack) 10-pack - 0.2ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

You may not be able to use them in VW mode though. They are supposed to be 0.2 but seem to come out closer to 0.14 each so would have to be used in TC on most mods.

I have the Demon Killer B version 0.2ohm 5x9mm, I am thinking of picking up the D version that is 3.5x6mm. Much easier to fit in other RTAs.
$4.79 Demon Killer 316L Stainless Steel Notch Coil Resistance Wire for RBA Atomizers (12 Pieces) - 0.2ohm (40W) / w/ rods at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

They also make a 3x6mm C version.

While i like the dimensions of those better then the 5 mm ID the legs are not set up correctly for most rda's, which is why I didn't get them to begin with! Sure you can bend them but many complain about the welds breaking easily with slight manipulation when building and straightening on the deck. That is why I took the one's set up already for Velocity decks to minimize fiddling about.
