Can I just reiterate what some, if not many of you already know... This 26g Nichrome on the Grand is spectacular! After some testing I ended up with a 0.5~0.6Ω coil, maybe a 6/7 or 7/8 wrap, 1/16 ID coil (its all a blur...).

Testing this config. with my ADV juice against my 28g Kanthal in the VVG. Same juice in both, the flavor is VERY similar but, it might be placebo, but I think I detect a slight metallic taste to the Kanthal setup? Vapor output is pretty equal (huge) but the Nichrome setup feels thicker. Same volume, but more dense?

Downsides? The sub-ohm Grand seems to eat through juice faster, or maybe I'm just hitting it more. And I definitely feel the battery sag at around 3.8~ volts. On that note, I'm using two very old AW IMR 1600's and two new 2000's. Enjoyable battery life right now is definitely suffering. I can get maybe two and a half hours, or roughly one third of my 6ml bottle. Got some new 1600's on the way that will hopefully help the situation. Among the many traits that I love about the VVG is it's consistent output. So tell me coil masters, can I get the same vape characteristics from the VVG that I'm getting with this sub-ohm Nichrome setup, or do I have a couple more Grands in my future?

Nope . . . . . Yep.

So here is my RM 2 setup. Let me know what you think.

20130919_191144.jpg

26 ga Kanthal
6/7 wrap
Wrapped around small screwdriver (.077 in dia.)
Organic cotton ball wick
.65 Ohm

20130919_191709.jpg

Using 1600 mAh AW batteries on my Grand.
Air hole on my RM 2 is slightly larger than stock at 1.2 mm (.047 in)
Vape is warm. TH is present, but not harsh. Vapor is slightly dense, not a huge cloud, but definitely more dense than my other setups.
Juice is 70/30 @ 6 mg

I find that my sweet spot is somewhere between .65 and .75 ohms. Anything lower my wick goes bad faster, anything higher the vape is too cool, and throat hit is very diminished. Generally I change my wick once a day, and re-coil once a week.

Looking good there Dennis :)

Ha! Too funny. Just ordered some samples of 28, 30 and 32 Nichrome. Figure I will try some high resistance builds for the VVG. On that note, I think I need to invest in a better DMM. I've got the Extech Pocket DM110. I've been measuring resistance by touching the leads to the tops of the screw heads. This meter only reads to the first decimal point, and lately the readings jump around considerably and will fluctuate +- .3Ω at times. I find this more of an issue when going sub-ohm than with my usual standard resistance builds.

So, anyone got a good DDM they can suggest. I don't like the idea of those stand-alone resistance checker boxes as I really don't like a uni-tasker (plus they're out of stock EVERYWHERE).

I just got this one. It also reads only to tenths for ohms. I like it. It is auto-zeroing-outing (←tech. term), and auto scaling (2K, 200K etc). The way I see it, almost any MM is gonna cost at least $29. this one was $49. So, I really only splurged $20. After using it for a week or more, I feel like I can get a good sense of the hundredths by how much it wanders. (It'll favor, say, .4; but occasionally jump to .3, then back to .4 . . . . . so I figure it's "low .4") ←genius, ain't I?

How the heck do you get it that tiny? The reason mine is so big is because that is as close as I can comfortably cut it. Maybe its time for a smaller pair of scissors.

I bought a little pair of cuticle scissors at Meijer's. They work pretty well. Nail clippers work fine too as long as you aren't mowing mounds of cotton ;)

I picked up some "thrum" scissors recently. You can get them all sorts of places, fastech, amazon, ebay. They are cheap - as low as $1 each. They are made for embroidery but they are fantastic for clipping the cotton. I tried sisors, nail clippers, etc. and these are far easier to use and work great. I got the first one on a whim, ordered three more last week.

Dude, I actually use big ol household scissors to trim it - their sharp and don't try to pull the wick out like my tiny scissors did. It's not as difficultly as it appears :)

I just ordered three pairs of these off Amazon. Ridiculously low priced, like $3 for 3, and free shipping.

Hey guys...

Field exercise has been stomping me into the ground. Not much free time.

Didn't want you to forget about me, so here is a baby orangutan with a baby tiger...

Just looking over Reoville here since I am a recent convert.

(Great, looks like I might never get caught up reading new posts with the additional threads I am going to keep up with little lone going through the old posts!)

Here is my current micro "magic" twisted ribbon setup wrapped on a 1.2mm form for .9 ohms

9ohmtwistedribbon12mmID_zpsd0952ed6.jpg

I have tried many many twisted ribbon sizes / techniques / number strands with ribbon & round & mixed to come up with "magic" for a balance of surface area vs heat vs latency.

"Magic" is.6mm X .07mm Kanthal A twisted until folded over like so

6mmX07mmcoldtwisted165ohmft_zps8a68c5c0.jpg

them 3 of those backwards twisted while selectively heating so they intertwine like so

6mmX07mmcoldtwistedthen3hottwistedoposite56ohmft_zps53f63403.jpg

Tales a long time, very easy to screw up at any stage of making, and 6 foot of ribbon makes enough for 4 to 6 coils if I don't mess up.

Well worth the trouble in my opinion.

Have a couple of ginnie pigs I am sending some to to see if I am crazy or if it is as good as I think it is or maybe both.
