I just made a coil/wick using 32 gauge wire. Wanted to see if I could guestimate and get close to 3.0 ohms. I wrapped 9 wraps around the screwdriver and came out with a 2.7 ohm coil. I'm thinking that each wrap equals around .3 ohms or so. Of course, that's on the screwdriver I use (and I sent you.) Different size screwdrivers would yield a little different results. It's all about the amount of wire you use.

ohhhhhhhhh then yes we are trying to use wayyyyyyy too much cotton!! hahahaha, we are probably trying to use 10x that much!! lol photo(2).jpg
Probably. It takes a tiny little whispy piece of cotton....then roll that up between two fingers....it shouldn't be much bigger around than regular crochet thread....maybe a little thicker. Then make one end kinda pointy. It should slide very easily into the coil.

The cotton on the tip of a Q-tip will make at least two wicks. That might give you an idea of how little cotton you need.....

I thought that the cotton 1 you sent me was PERFECT, it just didn't last as long but I believe that is because of the type of juice I vape gumming it up.

I guess this is actually my first micro coil. My previous attempts were way too big. I didn't realize how small 1/16 inch was until today.

Meters at 1.5 ohms! With my previous fat coils this many wraps would be almost 3 ohms.

I might not have rolled the cotton tight enough. It looks a bit wispy. Amazed how small the coils and cotton wick are. That box of cotton I bought should last me through any zombie apocalypse... Unless I get bit of course then it's going to be used for bandaging.

Does it look ok? More wick? This is my first vape with cotton and it tastes "sharper" than silica. Less muted. Btw, the reo and rm2 got in as pictured. Mailman had the gall to make me sign for it... well my underling anyway.

Your pics look good, liveone. Try a vape and see how it does. It's easy to replace the cotton wick if it's not performing the way you feel it should. Some of this is trial and error. :)

Sennie, I use cotton, too and have some juices that require rewicking at least once a day - caramel juices get me every time, but I love them anyway! I always pull the old wick out (I use a tweezers), dry burn the coil to clean it, then rewick.

Bro, looks awesome! You may try to run post to post on the juice hole side, that puts the coil directly in front of the airhole. That will likely add some different dynamics to the vape :)

Nice clean build there bro. I like it. :)

OK. Well here's one with proper alignment; but some serious no-no resistance. I know sub-ohm is awful; but I love it. Wanted to start seriously putting this cotton into some extreme testing. So . . . . . out comes the 26 gauge Kanthal. Ringing the bell at 0.8Ω on a true and proper micro here. Point is, cotton is kickin' some ayss here. Not even breaking a sweat.

I was trying BF sub-ohm micros with Nextel, and it was drying out on the long toots. I tried all kinda coil configurations. Since I've been using the sterile cotton balls, I noticed I could get more toots out of one squoizie. So, I put 2&2 together. Nextel wicks faster (better where there's a pool of juice to draw from): cotton holds more (better for the squonk). Anyhoo, now I can have my sub-ohm cake, and eat it with a micro-coil fork too! :D

BTW: I know it pains you, cuts you deep down inside, Supe, to see this fine cotton and micro brought to such low levels of resi-buse-istance. But a man's gotta do . . . . :p . . . . . . . . . . . . :)

So I decided that I needed to try cotton again after reading how successful all of you have been with it (I've been using Nextel in a micro coil for the last while). I had tried cotton before in a drunker and viva nova's and hated it, it would wick great if I wasn't vaping too much but it just couldn't keep up sometimes.

Well, with a micro coil and a Reo I am totally won over. It's been a week now, changed the cotton every 2 days. I've got more Nextel coming, and some ekowool that I think I'm going to end up selling.

Quick question, I've been using cotton balls, is there much difference between those and rolled cotton?

But seriously, I either have a gigantic reo or my coils are looking a lot smaller than Commie's. Whatever as long it passes the vape test.

They are smaller than mine. I've generally been using 28 ga wire, which prefers slightly larger diameter coils. Mine are about 16ga (1.5mm) inner diameter, yours look like about 18 (1mm)?

Well, this one is an experiment, it's almost 2mm diameter. 2.4 ohm, still hits like a truck. Too much vapor even for my taste. I have to take shorter draws with it.

Here's my first attempts:

You guys all seem to have very uniform coils that all touch. Does everyone usually torch and quench to prevent them from trying to spring apart or does it just take a bit more practice? I tried heating mine up after it was attached to the RM2 and squeezing them together with micro pliers but didn't seem to make much difference.

Okay, okay..... I swore I'd never use cotton but this morning I made my first micro coil and used q-tip cotton for wick. For RM2. Amazingly easy, coil and threading wick!!!!! (I've rejected natural wicks as my juices gunk up coils really fast requiring every day or two dry burn but threading cotton was so fast!!!!!)

Used 30 Kanthal, my favorite. Don't ask how many wraps.... I did it at 0500 while having first coffee.:D Used smallest jeweler's screwdriver I have. Metered about 1.6

I may soon be a cotton convert.

Thanks X and all advocates of micro coil and cotton wicks (JCOkie especially)

The q-tip I used would make more but this was my first one and next one will be a little thicker and longer. First one fell out while sniping the ends so next one I held ends when snipping.
