Good morning! It's Wednesday. I need a plan for date night.

In the meantime... how about these gorgeous tips?! :D

Humming bird 8 - Acrylic

I love closeups of these...

And another trip to:

Treasure of Alantis - Acrylic (OHMYWORD! )

Closeup so you can see how textured it looks (it's smooth as glass though! ;) )

How in the heck would you do fish?

Baked in a mini-oven? Mmmm.... ;)

PS - I'm a "fish guy" - just don't have any in my current house. Landlord doesn't allow any "water furniture". I'm a reefkeeper, and specialize in saltwater in general. My most famous account was building and maintaining a saltwater tank for former President Reagan. Picture this: "fish guy" shows up in shorts and a t-shirt carrying 2 buckets of equipment, walking into a fancy building, getting met by secret service in presumably expensive suits, getting escorted up to Reagan's office... It felt odd, every time, but was a pretty cool experience in my career at the time.

I've already got two Hummingbirds and the Antique Copper, Katie; but still, I'm sitting on my hands here!
I don't have either one and it took all my self control to list these two. Someone needs to buy them. Fast.
I blackened the 'Treasure' here and there on this one and it gave it so much depth! Love it!
By the way... I have an icicle sitting here. Just waiting for the disco ball :)laugh:) and another silver to join it. Have to have them all in one place at one time so you can choose. ;)

Oh my gosh, John, I've done nothing close to reef or even salt water. I only got into fresh water after a 43 yr hiatus with a tiny tank holding "George", my Mother's Day present from youngest dau. The more I looked into taking care of George, the more I found out how much keeping fish has changed, the bigger (not by much) the tank got, the more fish (not many) I got. I learned business in school, but had to become a chemist!

Yeah, it's pretty cool keeping fish for a president! Did you ever get to meet him?

the bigger (not by much) the tank got, the more fish (not many) I got.

Especially true for saltwater, the bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain. Seems like backwards logic, but water chemistry is more difficult to control in a smaller volume. Freshwater has become pretty easy these days, if you know some of the tricks. Most freshwater fish you find in the pet shop like a buffer of 7.0, so you add some neutral buffer powder and don't worry about Ph so much. If you set the tank up right from the beginning (slowly, key), the nitrogen cycle happens naturally.

My freshwater fish of choice was African Cichlids - very colorful for freshwater, and most people though they were saltwater. Their Ph requirements are different from the South Americans, or other freshwater fish in general, plus they're territorial - a problem as they grow if you have too many.

As for overcrowding in your case, there's another trick. People like to see a tank full of fish. The problem is there are rules to how many fish you can have in a volume of water, based partially on filtration. The solution is... add more water! I set up a lot of tanks with a sump (a smaller tank under the main tank, which usually has additional filters, airstones, etc.). Now you can crowd the main tank and break the rules.

Feel free to PM me if you ever have any questions or problems.

Did you ever get to meet him?

Yes, several times. Sometimes he didn't remember who I was though... :(

It was cool to have the opportunity to look through the Presidential log - a giant book full of photos and memories each president gets. He also had a bullet on a pedestal in a glass dome display case, with a plaque that read "This is the one..." It's probably on display somewhere now - maybe the Reagan Library?

Back to your regularly scheduled program... TIPS!

Aw-w-w, thanks John. I did let my tanks go thru the nitrogen cycle before introducing the fish and I don't have too many in them. Do partial water changes every week to 10 days and always test the water chemistry mainly for the nitrate levels. My fish are all very small at maturity and compatible. In two yrs haven't lost one to illness yet........knock on wood.

I got to meet Carter during his first campaign. My boss was heavily into democrat politics. Got a chance to work in the West Wing, but decided to marry my husband and move to a small town in S.C. instead. I really, really made a good choice! Wish I could have met Reagan........
