Here is my entry. I thought I'd share with you kind peeps what I do, and what I spend my major time on. Like Laurielie, I love the sounds of nature, especially the toads (their songs are usually sweeter than a frogs, perhaps to make up for the brown bumps? ;) )
But I spend my time growing and hybridizing brugmansia. I am sure the photo will convince you why I do this. Aren't they spectacular?
:)
You can click it for larger photo, I don't exactly know why it didn't go full size from the get-go? Laurielie, how did you get the moon picture so large? It's fantastic, btw

I cannot find my post. My description would be my favorite place to have a non-cigarette, under one of the plants I grew from a baby less than 6 inches tall....i.e.: vaping. I guess I had so much mail in my mailbox I posted in wrong place. oops.
edit: I re-read my email. It says I am responding to contest thread? huh?

I moved it to this thread, it is now post #142--three posts above this one :)

Sounds very cool, tell us about it here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/mom-pop-vapor-shop/399421-monthly-contest-contest-thread.html ;)

The forum post about which I was talking was originally in the contest thread and started "Here is my entry." Since it did not have a picture of vaping and did not describe a place, I moved it to the discussion thread (here) where it is currently post #142. I don't know anything about your email--I know there are a lot more ways to interact with the fora now than those with which I am familiar, so I can't really help with anything other than logging onto the site directly or a little bit with using Tapatalk.

This is a perfect example of why I don't like digital cameras... especially on the 'auto' setting!!
(except that you don't have to pay for the film and processing, plus my favorite lab closed)

These 2 photos were taken within minutes of each other...

Vaping on the Coast Hwy... with the ocean about 3 blks. behind me... ;)

The weather in Kentucky is like that, too ;)

Actually, from the red tint to the pictures you're taking them at sundown, which is a notoriously difficult time for photographing in natural light (I'd assume it applies to digital photography as well, as evidenced by your photos)--what happened with your lab is that they'd have a standard program (if done on a machine) or routine (if they still developed by hand) that would account for and colour-correct the sudden and drastic changes in dusk photography. I've taken four pictures in the same minute that had drastic lighting differences, and that was after the lab colour-corrected them (I used to be an amateur photographer, but I had to give it up in the switch from film to digital since I cannot afford decent digital equipment and film, processing, and the postage required to use them have gone up so much I can't use them either).

Holding the shutter button halfway down to get the focus without taking the picture for a couple-few seconds should give the camera a chance to kick in on the auto-whitebalance to account for the change in the colour temperature (though it won't help at all with having the image directly back-lit). On the other hand, Irfanview is a tremendous little free program for photo-editing (it's nothing like Photoshop, it's more a developing lab for digital pictures than an image compositor like Photoshop). It literally took me about 40 seconds to do this:

sk2.jpg

and that includes downloading your picture, opening it in Irfanview, adjusting the gamma, contrast and saturation, and re-uploading it to this message :) Not saying you care about that, just pointing out the option if you do ;) There's even an "auto-adjust" features that uses the information stored by the camera to produce the same image you would have gotten from a One-Hour Photo type lab (if they didn't go back in and redo problem photos, like your second one, by hand).

Having that limit of 20-40 pictures per roll still engendered a bit more creativity and care, imo, than having a file "limit" of thousands per card, though...

(are there still five entries? also was there a winner for may? Did I just miss that?

From the very first post in the contest/picture thread, referred (and linked) to in the June rules post:

5. There is a limit of five entries per person per contest. You may post more pictures, but only the first five will be eligible.

The winner for May has not been determined yet, so there has not been an announcement. I will post the identity of the winner, along with a link to a video of the prize determination process, once the determination has been made.
