I've wanted to try extracting tobacco for a long time now. I finally made the jump into DIY a mere week ago, and remembered I had an old bag (purchased about 8 months ago?) of one of my favorite pipe tobaccos. This is also not something I can get locally (in MI) as it's custom blended at a little smoke shop in WA, a solid 2500 miles away...

With so many methods to try, I read and read and said "screw it, I'm going to make it up as I go".

Some tobacco, some PG, in a jar with the lid on, but very loose, I tossed her in the crockpot with some water and put it on "low".

Left it on for about 6 hours, then shut it off overnight. Another 6 hours the next day, and I got antsy and decided to pull it out. I put it through a syringe with cotton at the bottom, and the jar pictured gave me about 25ml of flavoring. First impression? Good lord this stuff smells good! Exactly like the tobacco. I mixed a batch at 10% (6mg, 90/10 VG/PG) and a batch at 20% (80/20) and it's steeping now... I did take a few drips of it before I put it away, and while the flavor is a bit weak at this point, it tastes JUST like smoking a pipe. I can see myself setting up a mod/atty especially FOR this juice, and trying to perfect a coil to truly mimic the pipe experience.

Next time I'll be sure to weigh/measure my ingredients, and take more care recording how long I need to heat/cool it, this was just a "guess and go" trial to see if it might be worth my time. As it turns out, it most certainly is.

Why oh why didn't I start doing this earlier? A big thanks to all here who have posted their knowledge on the extraction process!

Love the V-Dub! Early 60's with 1959 bumper bar? On-topic - the hardest thing about starting out with an extraction is working out what you are supposed to do, I found. Just jumping in by putting some tobacco in a jar and covering it with PG seems to be a good start. It can only get better from there!

:) she's a '62, with unknown bumpers (good ol' craigslist), however I believe they're the *proper* year. I've got lots of motorcycles in the garage that see way more use than the bug, but she's my baby.

It's just about time for me to make another batch of NET flavoring, I'll be sure measure this time and report my findings!
