Ah, the brass fittings! I've been waiting for so long!
So true. Some people have waited a couple months even and for that.... I am sorry. I'm here to save people money and save people time. I'm truly not here to tease.
The reason in the sudden change of mind for me happened yesterday morning when I found the original brass adapter with the double "o" rings again...... attached to a lighter that holds very little butane. Before that.... I could not even find the one I have in my Nico-Drip V2 because the lighter I got it from was apparently no longer making them the same. They actually have
no brass fitting at all now. (Do not buy BIC in these lighters!)
Here it is:
The lighter above can be found at Wal-Mart for $2.12..... beside the paper plates and toothpicks. The amount of butane it holds is the smallest amount I've come across. So... potential for waste and polluting the environment is the most minimal and yet.... it is the only one I've found that actually has the best brass adapters! Double "o"ring!
Getting it apart is easy. Draining the butane is pretty fast. Do it outside!
Completely have every last little bit of butane out of it before you dare to unscrew the part that has the brass adapter! I cannot stress that enough!
It is under high pressure and can propel its parts like bullets if every little bit of butane is not emptied. I learned by experience. 8-o
LEAVE
NO BUTANE INSIDE!
DO NOT KEEP LIT FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS!
HAVE NOTHING AROUND TO CAUSE IT TO IGNITE!
DRAIN IT OUTSIDE!
IT FREEZES THINGS..... DO NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH THE GAS!
DO
NOT INHALE ANY OF THE BUTANE! OUTSIDE!
I know that we all have dealt with butane and lighters as smokers. I just am reminding anyone who have never thought about it. The stuff is dangerous.
Once you actually get to the brass adapter.... your work has only just begun. At that point you must take it apart.... remove springs and tiny o-rings.... put only the brass parts back together.... seal it all with Marine-Tex..... Let it dry straight and aligned..... then take a very small drill and drill it straight.
Then..... you finally have a brass adapter.
This is all reason as to why it would've been great to find adapters that are affordable somewhere.
And the risk to the environment........... ? This is better than everyone tearing apart various lighters and only using the tubing, etc.
The lighter above is
THE ONE.
I will do a how-to on this and include info on other lighters. I'm not holding back any info. I'm an environmentalist who cannot stand waste. That is why I have not instantly given out this info until now. I wish I had found this lighter before I did this "how-to" but I just found it yesterday morning. And I almost didn't even buy it to test it!
Let's save everyone time and money and save the evironment as much damage as we marauding human beings can..... and share any information you may have learned on lighters or fittings.
The reason I am posting the lighter make even though I don't yet have a how-to is in case anyone wants to pick it up while they are out all ready. The how-to will be coming as soon as I find the time to get it finished properly, uploaded to the photobucket album and posted. But I do work for a living and have many chores that simply must be done at home. Yeah.... Life first.... modding second..... sharing third.....!
