You can perfect this mod to suit the polyfil density, juice fluidity and your vaping habit by using these two steps:

1. overstuffing the polyfil a little
2. standing the cart up, presuming you've filled it, polyfil end down for about a minute (this largely depends on your vaping habit, ie. less time for frequent vapers).

Then, if the polyfil hasn't soaked up to the rim of the cart, pulling the polyfil out slowly until you see the juice line and then cutting there. That way you match both variables. Works for me when I switch to new poly or PG/VG mixes. Conversely, if juice starts coming out in under 30 seconds then you need to make a denser pack...unless you're a vapin' fiend!

Great mod BTW!

I've been using this mod for a couple of weeks now and love it, but prior to trying this had thrown away all but 1 of my fillings (that came in the carts), and was strictly dripping. Now that one has pretty much had it. So.....

This is probably a dumb question, no make that TWO dumb questions.

1. I placed an order for empty carts today, and am wondering when I get them how to tell if they are the "dense" or "loose" filling? Can I assume since I just ordered them this week that they are the new looser fillings? (I have no idea which kind the one I've been using was).

2. I have several bags of polyfil from Walmart at home that I use for making pillows, crafts, etc. They are "flame ......ant." Can I use those or is the polyfil you all use a "non-flame ......ant?" I don't even know if there is such a thing, but since I'm about to leave my office and head home, I wanted to stop on my way and get the right kind if the flame ......ant I already have isn't supposed to be used for this.

Thanks for any help!!!

Note: I'm a country girl, and live so far out that once I get home, it's a pain to go back to "town" for supplies. :)

I live in one of them places where we pipe in sunshine and it took days to get to lubbock to buy the right stuff. I tried some polyfil batting from my wifes craft stash and it must be the 'loose' stuff. I really didn't have much luck with it. Instead I got some fluval foam from petsmart (Look for the U1 Foam Block) and I make it a circle one millimeter larger in diameter and about 1/8 in thick. Also check out Phoenician's post. His two step process is invaluable if you routinely use different juices that may vary in 'thickness'. Hope this helps.

Hey, i just put a 510 cart (minus the atty) into my 808 cartomizer without the top part that has the hole, both filled and MAN the hit off of it was great.... then tried filling the 510 part (after it was pulling dry) with liquid, place it into the 808 and did it again.... its like a SUPER cartomizer!

Anyone else ever try this?

Tremendous idea, here. I've been vaping for about a week now and having serious issues with getting away from the old Marlboro reds. Seems like I having been able to get enough vapor, or was constantly refilling, overfilling, having inconsistent vapor production, etc.

This simple mod seems to have solved all those problems at once. Not only is vapor production strong, but I'm spending much less time refilling and more time enjoying my 510.

Not only that, but because the atomizer is kept wet I'm getting no burned taste or harsh, nasty hits. This seems to have been an all-in-one solution.

Many, many thanks. Maybe I can give away that pack of reds, now. :D

WOW!! This is the .....!!!! I too was getting alot of "burnt" tasting hits with the stock cart fill.......Tried this mod and I really think I may be able to stop smoking cigs!!! I must say that although ur mods r really helpful, in my case it could be life saving. The way i figure it, if i can get this thing to work amazingly well, i just might be able to throw away the cigs.....I am on my way......Thanks;):D

I've been playing with various cart mods on my 510 Tornado for about 6 weeks now and have had the most success with this method. The plug's primary purpose is to hold the fluid in the cart and that's what this does without taking up valuable space or leaking.

The only aggravation is that sometimes the plug stays in the atty when changing carts. ....no big deal if you have tweezers or a toothpick handy, but quite inconvenient while trying to drive.:(

Fluval polishing pad also works nicely if you slightly compress it during insertion.

This method teamed with 510 mega carts and mega attys give me about 4 hours of vaping before needing to switch carts, and I vape quite heavily.

This is definitely a great mod.......and simple too!

Doesn't that push down the filler in the carto, assuming you didn't take out the oring. Did you trim the cart at all or just stick it in

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modders-forum/68992-cartomizer-mods-utilizing-ccfm.html scroll down to the third vid, double capacity breather mod. Pretty much the same as you said but with a breather hole so you dont need to pull apart to refill.
Sorry for the hi-jack. But questions need answers!

Got an 801 today (auto) Wanted to try out a "handsfree" approach....I noticed right away when i took out the cart to do this mod that the shape of it is really kinda weird....I mean why do they have the big grooves down the side? Why not just round, or square? There is always juice in these grooves when i pull it off to look...Seems to me thats why these leak...Any thoughts...

I am pretty sure that on the 801, when you draw a hit thru it, those grooves are how the vapor gets to your mouth. The vapor doesn't get drawn thru the filler material. The juice there is probably condensed vapor.

:D I got my Tornado in last week and let me just say how happy I am to have found the easiest and probably best cart mod out there right out of the gate. I'm new to the vaping world so this site has really accelerated my growth as a newb. Thanks to all of you who contribute these great ideas in the pursuit of the perfect vape!

highping, I registered on this forum solely to say:

THANK YOU

After running into all kinds of issues getting comfortable with my ecig over analogs, the #1 problem being the burnt taste I got all the time because the poly would dry out so quick, this fixes it!

On my first try, got no leaks and saw a big vapor improvement, and I can actually inhale a deep drag instead of small drags and no burnt taste.

Freaking amazing.

Sticky This Please!

But move it over in cartridge mods where it belongs, and leave a link here under Tips & Tricks. There are still tons of folks over in that sub-forum that haven't seen this. Those folks are flailing about with blue foam, silicone caps, straws, staples, toothpicks, freakin' tea bags, paperclips, horsehair, aquarium filter media, ball bearings, springs, and all kinds of other shiz that doesn't work near as well. I know, because I was one of them. This is simpler and much better!

Oh, and thanks highping! ;)

Thanks again to all of you for the great feedback!

Ralph: I just posted this over in the cartmods area. (couldn't come up with a flashy name for it, so I just called the 'highping cart mod' :D )

Sweet. I asked Eledil several hours ago if he could link it so it shows in both forums. He probably isn't on yet. Also asked him for sticky.

I've been advertising for you in my sig too.
