great idea dusty. we need to talk about this awquard middle-ground they inhabit, the never-born attempts by the Big tobacco to devise a similar device, the patent issue, the regulating aspect and the manner in which we have seen it employed so far - even still-shots of websites would be good - like the ad for salespeople by Ruyan in the Australian job listings, 2 days after nicotine liquid is banned in Victoria. We should cache or download any pages we think might disappear.

This could turn into a "who killed the electric car" type documentary before we know it. Of course it would be great to get footage of people like Dr Murray or Jimdlk if they were game and an interview with an industry insider or a chinese factory worker would be a coup even if it was anonymous.

i agree. any and all information is good to have. whether it is used depends on what story actually comes out.

I agree about getting the docs in some video. I'll even do some local checking and see if any of the locals doctors have heard of these things and their takes on them.

i think the loss of freedom aspect and the regulation that is thinly disguised as "health related" could be major parts.

Awesome Dusty! I'd had a similar idea, but in the form of a website. Videos are the way to go nowadays. The youtube vids are getting some massive hits!

I'm sure there are plenty of stories people would be willing to share. I think it would be great to visually record how much these can improve quality of life and how easy it is to replace analogs with these. I've found them to be quite inspirational, and I'd like to see that aspect brought to light.

Just getting the facts strait would be wonderful. There's so many lies and misunderstandings out there it would be great to have them settled. I like dc's ideas as well.

G'Day Dusty , sorry to chime in a little late LOL ( have been away ) , I am more than willing to be the collator for any of the Aussies who wish to contribute, I would suggest that any Aussies wishing to get in on this should have a chat with you , figure out exactly ( or near enough ) what they can contribute or is required, film it, and then maybe snail mail a CD of it to me.... then providing you are happy to furnish an address , I could package the whole lot and express it to you .... I.E. I would act as a continental drop point ???
I am not sure the world is ready for my ugly mug lol , but I think I would have a bit to say ???

for uploading, anyone ever use dropbox? makes it all very easy to store, sync and share files online. you get a folder on your desktop, you put a file in it and this file then appears in the same folder on the desktop of anyone who you allow to have it.

It also gets stored in the cloud and you can download or upload files where-ever your at regardless of whether dropbox is installed on the machine or not via your account at their site.

check out the video demo at www.getdropbox.com

I've been meaning to use it more but I have not had the opportunity. It would be ideal for a project like this. It gets rave reviews.

I like this a lot, Dusty. Count me in. I've done a lot of video work in the past decade, much of it for Time Warner when I was a content editor for Road Runner. Listen, be sure to get Trog on video. He's perfect to talk about the nanny state, the la-la land newbies all gaga at the Chinese tech toy, etc. Plus his own Screwdriver contribution. He'd be great.

You have the makings of something nice, if you can get pacing down, not bore with any segment over 30 seconds, not cause nausea from cameras hand-held like fire hoses, etc.

It's "The Blair E-Cig Hunt."

TB, i'm sure i will be picking your brain quite a bit.

there will be some guidelines for submissions, but we need the question list finalized first. I agree with shaky cameras being very bad. lighting needs to also be adequate so that we don't get the jumpy shots from a webcam cranking up the gain and dropping the exposure to a horribly low number.

My sister used to work in the PR department at road runner. once we are ready to release i'll pick her brain. :D
