Hmmm....could be. I know when people are rude to me I remember what they looked like for a long time, though.

I have also had a non-smoker cross a large parking lot to enter a designated smoking area to harangue me for smoking, so I can picture this scene. This was years ago and I still vividly remember her face.

She opened the convo with 'why do you want to die?' After several minutes of annoying prattle I reminded her I wasn't the one approaching strangers in public to annoy them and perhaps it was not I who had a death wish. ;)

Call me a bad person or whatever (and believe me, I realize I probably didn't make any friends with my pregnant woman rant, so if that makes me a bad person... c'est la vie!), but I can't bring myself to scold or reprimand anyone who flings a little poo into the face of the holier than thou. There exist people in this world who think they're so morally superior that they're immune to any sort of reason or rational thought. I'm thinking it goes back to issues of a fragile ego and/or low self esteem. It's as if they feel that if they even think about offering a mea culpa on a subject that they are obviously misinformed about, they're in some way either admitting an imperfection exists where their ego denies vehemently, or it gives credence to what their poor self esteem has been telling them along: "You suck".

I'll say it again, the bad attitudes among people we encounter vis a vis vaping or smoking in general is less to do with concern for health and more a need to control the behavior of someone else.

Isn't allowing someone to start an angry exchange with you ultimately allowing them to control your behavior?

When poo gets flung, everyone involved gets covered in it.

Not if you take control of the situation, allowing you to direct the exchange. I'm not suggesting one should go out and pick fights. I'm merely saying that it's a little poetic justice when someone like that gets their come-uppance.

If I'm smoking a cigarette and someone asks me to refrain because the second-hand smoke is bothering them, and we both have the right to be where we happen to be at the time, I will either politely comply or let the other person stay while I find somewhere else to smoke. I mean, there were and are times when I was a smoker that I didn't want to be around it, particularly when eating.

On the other hand, if I'm vaping and someone comes up to me and asks me to refrain because the second-hand smoke is bothering them, then I already know it's a ruse. I could explain that there isn't any second-hand smoke, but because by being caught asking you to stop it under false pretenses, they go into fragile ego mode and on the offensive. That's when they say ignorant things like "You're blowing out smoke!", and no matter how you try to explain that it's vaporized PG or VG, their brains are hardwired to believe that only tobacco products produce "smoke", and therefore you're killing babies, the ozone layer, and instantly giving everyone withn a 5 mile radius terminal lung cancer. With these people, I absolutely refuse to stop vaping. I don't get ugly about it. I remain calm and pleasant about it...

...then make the mistake of venting my frustration on an internet discussion forum, only to have our own brand of holier than thou hurl insults at me. Ironic, but beside the point.

And that point is... face it. We, as smokers, have become the modern equivilant of lepers. It's nice to be able to deal a little poetic justice every once in awhile.

People get addicted to plastic surgery, body modification and tattoos too. If anything I feel sorry for her (we can quit smoking she can't go back to her presurgery self) and I don't think she deserved to be snotted off. Because she started it is not a good excuse for just being in return.

I also think its creepy and weird that he was able to give such a full and vivid description of her. How long was he staring and was he writing his notes down (or did he wait until later to do that?)

OK,
I was being nice about all the Mary Poppins stuff but now that I am creepy....

I do tend to memorize just about everything about people I have negative interactions with. It's a natural reaction that could save your life. While yes some people may get addicted to plastic surgery, the number of people that have actually been diagnosed with such and ailment is smaller then those who have Munchhausen's syndrome. This is to say that you have a better chance of dancing with the President then meeting someone with such a genuine psychological condition.

No, most people go that far, that badly, because they are shallow and see no worth in themselves or in others beyond the physical . Oddly enough they also don't seem to notice what a side-show act they have become because they can't see past their own ego. Now honestly I'm all for re-constructive surgery, even if you don't really need it. Large breasts can be nice, a cute button nose is cute and button like.

However not every idiot is the victim of some kind of responsibility negating disease. I swear is it one of the worst things about the USA today that people can't be a ....., they can't make bad choices, they can't be a spoiled brat that was never been taught to pay attention by the video game that raised him, they can't be sentenced to death for having four too many drinks and then killing someone with their car. Oh heck no they have a disease! Not their fault at all you see! B.S.

Sometimes an idiot is just an idiot. And if a person is going to insist on dragging their inner idiot across the street and bludgeoning me with it, I'm going to make them my plaything. However with the plastic woman in question, I wasn't angry, I chose to be amused instead. She wasn't sick, and she had no interest in saving the world, her only desire was to self validate through the degradation of others. She wanted to prove that she was better than anyone who dared to make decisions that were different from hers. She wanted to prove to her friend that I was a lesser being because I had a different lifestyle or had made different choices. Most of all though, she wanted to be able to put a show on for her friend and she wanted me to just lie down and take it.

She thought that because she felt superior that she was. She thought that because she was louder then I and had adopted the special chicken pose with her hands on her hips that I would just roll over and take it. She was wrong on both counts. Her kind of attitude isn’t deserving of kindness or understanding. Put a pillow case on her head and a KKK logo on her chest and her attitude won’t change in the slightest, just her target.

Perhaps, but then isn’t allowing someone to tell you how to react and what to think just the same? If you’re not willing to take a stand for yourself, the default interpretation is that you know you’re in the wrong. My personal philosophy:

If someone is confused, try to educate them.
If someone asks an honest question, give them your best, most honest answer.
If someone is wrong, try to help them right themselves.
If they are mistakenly aggressive toward you, try to help them calm down and find out why.
But if after all that they still ball up their fist and swing,
By all means, break their arm.

ACTUALLY Brown was very witty with how he handled the barbie doll. I don't think he was aiming anything specific towards you or anyone else on this forum. I don't believe he is acting defensively either. I think your post, Wendy, is quite defensive.

I'm just saying.....

I don't think we need divisiveness in here, we need to unite for a single purpose.
So please don't throw insults back and forth.

Thank you Raven. On both call outs; it never ceases to amaze me that men of certain demographic believe they gain some kind of street cred by spreading their misogyny via the internet-- especially considering that they'd probably never recount their tales to a real live woman. Not in person, not face to face.

Back to the topic at hand (standing in line at minimart)
Mullet Guy: Is that one of those electric cigarettes?
Me:Yes.
Mullet Guy: You like it?
Me:Sure.
Mullet Guy: Cool.

The fubar thing is, I am a Leykis 101 student. But even comments like that are crazy. It is ok because the poster apologized, and explained that he was under the influence at the time. And I can understand how something can be funny while drunk, but totally ......ed the next day when the beer goggles come off lol

My friends get mad when they have to go outside to smoke. I am left sitting at the bar/table watching all the purses and puffing on my e-cig! Summer isn't so bad...but I just laugh at them when it is winter in Iowa. Burrrrrrrrrrrrrr !

As for the non-smokers. They tell me to go outside, I explain the e-cig. They shut up fast. I have had an e-cig for just over a year. Been on local TV news, and in the paper about it. I figure the more who know about it the better. But admit i am tired of explainning...all the time.

Yes. Very creepy.

Mary Poppins? Never really thought I was the Julie Andrews type.

LOL,
This is one of those things that will never end. So I give up, victory for you! :thumb:

I can't imagine how I ever allowed my opinion to differ from yours in any way. How incredibly foolish and creepy of me. And being observant, having a good memory and writing in a descriptive manner, what was I thinking.

My almost sincere apologies from the heart of my bottom.

Julia Andrews was kind of cute.

I'll immediately rush off and seek professional help now.
Thank you Oh Great One for your words of wisdom.

Sincerely,
Creep

Yet the irony is that you are so very bothered by my opinion. I'm sorry for hurting your feelings.

Most of my friends are smokers. I remember giving a few of them to try it, but they just pretended to cough and start pulling funny faces, like "ew, what the hell is that, I'd rather smoke my cigarettes". But then again, they are very close minded hardcore smokers. My classmates on the other hand love it, we pass my 510 around during classes sometimes. It doesnt help my crap battery life, but I'm hoping I can convert some of them to vaping!

Some folks are just like that...
Hey...I knew a gal who refused to ever listen to Styx again after "Kilroy Was Here" was released. She claims it is because they 'sold out and went commercial', therefore she could never stoop to give them another listen...even her older records that she 'adored' before.

I kinda shook my head...and thought to myself...
Ummm...the second they got on stage as pros...they were 'commercial'...and from album 6 forward (On moving from RCA to A&M), every one was multi plat...so her logic evades me.

The same chick loves PF Dark Side of the Moon....and if that wasn't designed to be 'commercial' from day one...I dunno what was ;)

At any rate...
Some folks have just made up their minds not to like something. You can't force them to like it or try it. Eventually they might...but it'll be their idea if they do...and they'll usually need some kind of 'honorable out' or they'll stay in the hole they've dug for themselves with words on their former public proclomations forever-more.

I haven't really talked to many strangers about it, but the friends I have who smoke have either a. tried it and loved it, b. tried it and couldn't make it work, or c. just weren't interested. And all of those are fine.

I think I'm actually more cautious about 'proselytizing' than I would be if I had smoked, because I know that since I didn't get hooked on analogs first, I really *can't* empathize with the whole trying to quit thing, nor with the lectures smokers probably face all the time. If someone asks me about it, I tell them briefly what it is and explain that nicotine helps me with pain and neurological problems and stuff. Since I'm visibly disabled, they don't tend to question it. I guess I'm always happy to answer questions, but I don't generally initiate conversations about it.

Never gotten a negative reception - in fact, the reactions I get are so awesome I'm thinking of becoming a dealer. :p Only weird comment I've gotten is from a few people who think you can just use cartridges. They see me dripping and go "Oh my god! What are you doing?!" like its the difference between smoking and spiking ....... :p
