For those who appreciated the Asolo, they have a new version coming out....the Asolo mini...a single cell 75 watt device

IJOY Solo Mini 75W VW/TC Box Mod W/O Battery

I'm pretty excited...if it has the same features as the first one, i hardly ever ran above 70 on it.

its a Solo mini, not Asolo mini, and if you have the 200w why would you step back other than form function? and if form matters theres better single 18650 mods out there that are cheaper>
Better is subjective....
Its only a step back in wattage...but many dont need 200 watts.
But many would like the added usb charging. As to better single 18650 mods out there (i assume we are keeping to the TC category), name one that can control kanthal.

i saw this advertised somewhere and thought i wonder if they're gonna try and charge a crazy amount for this version as well, then drop the price to $75 like they are now. IMO the 200 watt was a fail. great idea with no dry hits for kanthal. However, in real world tests the results were hit and miss. who knows maybe they fixed via firmware, hardware, whatever. my cousin has one, 200 watt, 50/50 on dry hit protection.

I've done extensive testing on the asolo 200 watt....
The dry hit protection and regulation on kanthal works really well.....if you use the right coil types. Spaced coils work best

I have no problems with mine either. I got mine for a steal, under $55 so I could not pass it up. It has been my daily device for the last month. I know there were some reviews knocking it, but I would buy another if I was to lose it. I don't think I would go for the mini though. I have quite a few Temp mods as is.

To be honest, with the advent of the NiFe TC wires and even SS that can be used in essentially the same way as kanthal excpet with robust, accurate TCR-based TC, I really dont get the need to stick with kanthal come hell or highwater but maybe that's just me...

i cant really control kanthal, i dont know if i would even give it the benefit of a doubt there, and all of the rewiews say it doesnt really work all that well, so anything thats more accurate is better

heck if they'd have come out with a 40 watt, single battery box from the start i'd probably have one already; but I never needed a 200watt box to begin with; all I was interested in was dry hit protection.

between dry hit protection and squonking rda's like the fountain v2, i'd be all set.

Im sorry, but i have done extensive testing...and it DOES regulate kanthal. It doesnt regulate it in the same manner as Ni/Ti wire is....but regulation is happening. It also does work really well....when used correctly. Untill i broke mine (basically threw it against asphalt...not on purpose :( ), it was my all day vape. Once i learned how to best use it and build for it, performance of both dry hit prevention and regulation was rock solid.....and using SS wire was even better....a wider range of coil types would work well with SS.

Right behind you...
It also had the advantage of being a pretty damned compact serial 18650 mod as well, rather than the stupidly large bricks like the Sig 150TC, IPV 3/4, X Cube II, Snow Wolf 200, etc.

And it wasn't a fail so much as it was a reviewer fail, and even if Kanthal dry-hit prevention didn't work AT ALL (which it does), it's a pretty good VW high-power mod, and "conventional" Ni200/Ti temp control works just fine on it. Not one single review dinged it for conventional operations, all the bellyaching was about the Kanthal dry hit prevention. Which you don't have to use.

If Evolv got graded the same way when they first released the DNA40, they'd be considered a "fail" too, because of the steep learning curve on building Ni200 coils, and learning what atomizers worked.

Thats exactly why i spent a week straight running different coils on it, to see what worked and what didn't....i wanted to be sure to give it a fair review. My first couple of coils didnt work that well....but once i figured out what the mod liked, it became my most used mod.

I have one and for the most part it's a nice mod. It's the smallest dual 18650 mod I've ever owned.

What I didn't like was:
1. It only goes down to .1 in TC (almost impossible to build dual Ni200 coils in my Billow V2 and get to or above .1 ohms)
2. The fact that you have to vape TC coils in power mode first to teach the mod before switching to TC
3. NO USB port for updates (#1 could easily be fixed with an update)
4. Mine was sharp along the bottom edge making it not very comfortable to hold (could just be mine or the way I was holding it)

Not saying it's a bad mod, just like to point out the negatives as well. I've yet to find perfection lol.

Cheers,
Steve

Correction: you don't have to vape ni/ti coils in power mode first. With those coil types, press the "t" button three times, and a coil type selection screen will appear. Highlight ni or ti and you are set. Vaping in power mode is for kanthal and SS

I'm not at home at the moment, but I'm almost positive the instructions tell you, you have to let the mod learn in regular TC as well as taste control. I seem to recall when I tried to just enter TC without letting it learn, it kept switching itself to power mode. I ended up just using it in power mode since I mainly use Billow V2's with Ni200 in TC and my builds are under .1 ohm. Honestly since getting a few DNA200 mods, I haven't used it.

I promise you that you absolutely do not have to "train" in power mode for ni or ti

I am excited for this one! I watched the beta testing of the Asolo very closely and the fact that it can take any coil out there is a huge bonus for me. I haven't tried any wire except nickel and kanthal but I am VERY interested in stainless and I think this particular mod is perfect for me. I vape at .5 ohms almost exclusively so 75 watts is perfect. I never go that high even with lower ohm coils (55 watts on my X Cube at .28 ohms). I have not had a TC mod yet that gives me perfect dry hit protection and it would be great to finally experience that, lol. I am looking forward to seeing how it performs!! :)

Me too.....if it is at least as good as the Asolo, it will be a great little mod

I agree! I loved watching you learn the Asolo and sharing everything as you went along. I was very interested in the Asolo when it was first introduced but hearing your thoughts and findings made me want one even more! I hadn't even tried TC at that point but now that I have I know more about what I am looking for, and this mod came along at just the right time. Not only that, it's pweeety. :D
