NEW Dicodes Dani Box Mini

oh no ... a sad start to my day. This is not happening to one of our mini's but to one of our full size V2's. The main display is dim and the menu items are dim and garbled (some worse than others). I just emailed info@cremedevape.com with these pictures and left a message about this on their 'contact us' page. I'm sure they'll help me get this resolved but it still 'hurts' to have one go bad.

Oof, Hopefully it turns out okay.

I'm scared of the dicodes menu in the same way I was scared of opening the hood of my VW. I mean, I knew there were car parts in there, but that was about it.

Whenever the husband worked on it (frequently, alas) he would always be bleeding somewhere and muttering about "metric systems," "non standard items" and "shoving 10 lbs of something in a a 5 lb box."

I will admit it was fun to WATCH, but like...… Yeah. I believe one time he had to change the battery and it was UNDER the engine or something. LOL. He also replaced the radiator one time because it was cracked that was a day he was SUPREMELY unhappy, that one.

The follow-up:

I heard back promptly from Keith @ C-de-V who copied Achim @ Dicodes on the email. Achim apologized for the faulty device and said I'll have to return it to Dicodes in Germany to have the screen replaced.

So now I'm mentally tossing the dice on whether to ship it back via USPS mail or Fedex.

Any opinions / comments on the return shipping are welcomed.

Maybe consider DHL. I've been happy with DHL when I order from CDV to here in the states.

On another topic. Got a leather sleeve a few weeks ago for my Dicodes 21700, got one for my Dani Mini coming next week. What's the best way to clean these? Any ideas if we need to put leather conditioner on em too?

Holy Moly! Fedex wanted $130 to $140 to send it to Germany depending whether I opted for shipping out on Monday or next Thursday. No other options for pricing. Nope, didn't go with FEDEX.

My next stop was UPS because I had to drop off a couple Amazon returns there. UPS had one price option ... $150. Nope, not them either.

Off to my local USPS ... $24.50 1st class mail to Germany ... will arrive there in 7 to 10 days. That's better!

(I don't know of a local DHL drop off so I didn't check their pricing)

Just curious Mike, what happens when you drill down into the menu and try to adjust screen brightness? Is the screen brightness set the same on both devices in the picture?

I was curious as to what you'd find, since this issue ruined a trade for me last year. The other party was in Germany, and I found exactly what you did. I wasn't going to pay well over $100 to ship and the other party said he would not wait for the USPS delivery, so the deal fell through.

DHL is great, but since their attempt to set up a US service failed it doesn't look like they care much about their website. I couldn't get a price quote (we were setting up the trade in the evening) without actually calling - and the call center was closed. I have the strong impression that DHL is very expensive for casual users, but if a business actually sets up an account with them the price drops significantly. So instead of $25 for 7 to 10 business days, the rate for their account holders is about $30-35 for 2 to 3 calendar days.

I didn't try changing screen brightness. Many of the other menu's/sub-menu's were virtually unreadable the display was so garbled. I didn't think it was a brightness 'thing'. I did swap batteries from a working Dani just in case there was something wonky about the 'output' of it's current batt.

I'm guessing a factory reset wouldn't have cured the issue either of the folks from Dicodes would have suggested that before sending it back. Seemed they were pretty sure it needed a new display from the pictures I sent along.

Oh, FWIW ... during my email exchange with Keith I mentioned I'm in the market for a couple more before the dreaded deadline here in the good 'ol USofA. Here's what he said about that ....

"I don’t know I’d worry too much about that May deadline if I were you. Imports from outside the US will get through unless of course it’s commercial size shipments then you could have a bit of a problem."

We can't take his opinion 'to the bank' ... but it's nice to hear from his perspective C de V will not stop shipping to us once the deadline hits.

Hobbs .. where you been? I don't recall seeing any pictures of your enticing meals or wonderful dogs over in the Provi thread for quite some time.

Mike, I don't follow it closely but yours is the third one I've heard of with a display problem and there's likely many others in the grand scheme of things. No mod is perfect and sometimes things slip past factory QC I guess. Even Provari had some issues from time to time. Good thing is Dicodes will make it right. Shipping sux though.

Just haven't been around much although I do lurk from time to time occasionally. Since I got my Dicodes setups sorted, there is absolutely nothing to change or improve on. I'm set with what I have for the long haul.

... and from just yesterday. Korean Fried Chicken with Edamame Rice ... Plucky chicken strips tossed in chili sauce, green onions and red pepper flakes. Sprinkled with sesame seeds. Sweet-and-spicy coated tempura-battered pieces of perfectly fried chicken. Tamari soy sauce on the edamame rice.

OH ... and Sugar and Mason, the miscreants. It's Friday !!! WOooHOoo ... Jump Around !!!

We used to send 'care packages' back to Germany to exchange students who had stayed with us. We never had a problem using USPS for that. So I'm not concerned, but one never knows the end result until it's over.

Thanks for the info, good news for sure. There is no way I will be able to order everything I want before May, not just the Dicodes.

Well, damn. I've coveted the Dani Mini blue since I first saw it. But I'm one that just hates to spend big money for something like that. With May approaching, I'd just about convinced myself that I could justify to myself getting a virtually 100 percent bulletproof, reliable, "liftetime" mod. And that I'd have to do it by May. Thanks, Mike & Hobbs, for depriving me of that!
