…I found this in an older, now closed thread (can't quote from it anymore).

Sure you can, if you absolutely must…just pick up the post number from the permalink in that thread, quote anything from your target thread, plug that in to your reply and sub out the pertinent data…

"QUOTE="member name, post: post number, member: member number"]text[/QUOTE"

I like tidy. :D

Good luck. :)

Pure PITA IMHO.

Did a search. I found this in an older, now closed thread (can't quote from it anymore).
Sure you can, it's super easy! Just highlight what text in the post you want to quote (even in closed threads!), and click the little "+Quote" tab that pops up. Then go back to the thread you want to quote it in (any thread at all), and Insert the quote!

Like so:

If you look at the ECF Material theme right now, you'll notice that every function from the old theme is preserved. And for those that want it, I will leave the old theme up - although it will become unsupported and I can't promise it won't get broken over time.

:)

EDIT: Sorry, apparently the ability to quote in closed threads is limited to staff. :(

Hit or miss for me sonic. Works fine as long as you're in the same thread. Move to another to quote and ??? Don't understand what breaks this function but it doesn't uniformly when selecting text from alternate threads (tabs, alt windows) or if you hit reply first. May be my old v6.x Safari. Use it when I can tho.

Now on to weird stuff don't work. Any insights on why I might be experiencing local thread search crash loop? I've cleared cookies, reset browser, etc., etc. Do still need to test on alt browsers.

Thanks and good luck. :)

p.s. @sonicdsl, here's loopin' at ya…

In order for this to work, you have to refresh the page in the new tab. It does work across tabs though. Say, you have two tabs open, one tab for each post. In order to transfer the quoted material over to the new tab, you have to have the page refreshed after you quote the post your wanting to quote.

Are you doing the refresh every time? I am getting the insert quotes option after a refresh.

Okay.. it works.

Haha…ok, it does. Dunno how long. Like I said. It's been hit-or-miss for me. Just don't have time these days to dissect stuff like I used to. But good point to keep in mind re page refresh/reload. Appreciate the comeback. Hopefully sonic might have some clues on the search loop.

By and large the rewrite is ok. Looking forward to the Dk Alum.

Thx and good luck. :)

Hmm. That's how I usually quote and reply, but I don't get that little "+Quote/Reply" tab when I highlight a portion of the text in closed threads. Tried several different closed threads. Nothing, nada, zip. Nothing pops up. What gives?

Refresh how? By hitting reload this page? Doesn't work me at all.

Are you doing this on a PC or tablet?

She is right in that the little quote/reply thingy isn't coming up on old closed threads. I just tried it in one and it didn't come up for me..

Are you getting it to come up in closed threads?

It worked for Sonic (and others). Not for me. ONLY on closed threads, though. No problems with open threads.

Your correct that was a closed thread Sonic quoted. hmmm... Mine is having the same problem as you with closed threads.. its working with open threads, but not with closed ones.

When you said closed thread I went to an old one and tried again (since I used open threads this morning when it worked) and got nothing just like you. I am on windows 8, on a laptop, using firefox at current moment.

Could very well be a "staff" ability then. I'll test later on an account that has no staff ability.

Edit -- Yep. It's a staff ability. Was not able to do it on a normal account.

Aha! Special perks! :D Thanks for trying to help, Retired. BTW, not a big deal, I can always copy and paste if I need to quote something from a closed thread.
And, please hurry! I soooooooooooooo want to slap a big red "disagree" on Sonic's post.   :banana:

Like I said, tidy. Like if you want to quote off of some other compatible forum, or just make a quote look like one and extend with an external link. Makes things neater when you're introducing multiple quotes in a post. Know this seems like it breaks things sorta but we all have our OCD moments.

Good luck. :D
