I've been vaping 5 years now and been analog free during that time. I was mainly using analog sized batteries with cartomisers (realis) although I did have an aborted brush with an ego-c for 6 months which I abandoned because none of my juices seemed to work with it. I recently got fed up with the refilling / recharging rituals of the realis and ordered the provari, 3 protanks and 10 extra atomisers for the latter. Although initially disappointed with the taste from the provari after a while I thought I was at least vaping less due to the stronger draw and was enjoying not having to refill / recharge as often. As time went on though the harshness of the draw was frustrating me and, after a couple of weeks, I bought 10 smokes. I can't say I enjoyed them that much but neither did I get them out of my system. Please help me get back on the straight and narrow.

I've since found out that changing the protank atomiser helps reduce the harshness of the draw. How often is this best done and can they used ones be washed or boiled back to new? I've yet to experience the "flood of warmth and flavour" (at any voltage) I've heard provari disciples prattle on about. Anyone guess why? Is it because all the juices I've tried are VG (LF menthol blend), ecopure menthol and a tobacco flavoured WTA (so much for the fabled missing link)?

The protanks I'm using are 1.8 ohms and I've been experimenting with voltage from 2.9 - 4.0 but haven't had a lot of joy. Any ideas?

Its not your Provari but rather your Protanks. The Provari works amazing depending on what you use as a topper. That goes with any mod you happen to be using. Some love Protanks but I've had no luck with them. In fact, I've had a hard time with all tank types and clearomizers until I started rebuilding the coils myself. But since you may not want to get that fiddle with it all, you might prefer a dripping atomizer for full flavor and throat hit. I ended up using those initially after failed attempts with inferior heads on all different kinds of tanks, and now use febuildable dripping atomizers mainly because they are ALWAYS working great and I can depend on them for a good Vape. But everyone likes and wants different. I would recommend if you don't want to drip, then try a different tank system but keep in mind you might get a head on one that works amazing, and then the next head you use royally sucks. Lol. That's the problem with mass production from China.

As I type, I have failed protank just sitting here gathering dust. I have never liked the flavor I got from them.
If your not into rebuilding I would suggest an iClear30s. Not to be mistaken for the iClear30b which is a bottom coil and I know nothing about.
I tried, like you to find the flavor that everyone was raving about and bought every new clearo on the market. Nothing. Until the iClear30s that is. Flavor burst! You do have to chance the coil every week or two but I gladly do that so I can enjoy great flavor and fantastic vapor. I use the 1.5 or 1.8 ohm coils.
Oh and I use them on my ProVari mini's. :vapor:

I'm not familiar with the protank, but I can tell you it is only one of a MILLION different juice delivery devices that will work with the Provari. Don't get frustrated, it's just a matter of finding the right one for you. If you haven't read it yet, this is a source of some great basic info: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...rto-tank-what-juice-delivery-attachments.html
If you were happy with the vape you got from your cartomisers, I'd suggest a carto tank. It uses the same filler type carto, but with holes in the sides, that sits inside a tank of juice. I tend to use a 5 or 6ml tank with XL cartos, and even with heavy vaping, I only fill the tank once every day or two.

Agreed - you haven't got your ProTanks working to their best potential. Even when you DO, they're far from the best device for flavor and vapor. Don't get me wrong - I use them every day - but they're just not great, especially without a little fiddling.

EASIEST to try:
a) Use a tweezer and pull ONE STRAND of the wicking out of your next coil. There's too much in there - especially for VG juice
b) Maybe buy, if they're back in stock anywhere, a $5 "Aerotank Base" for your protank. It lets you open the airflow up, which improves the Protank's ability to make vapor.

NEXT:
Once that's working, and you're happy, but just looking for the next level, you can read about Carto-tanks, and Rebuildables (like a Kayfun or Russian), and Drippers - and choose something else to try next.

Good luck!!
Finding a good equipment setup, and finding a good juice - that's the hard part...

Agree with everyone else. It's the Protank. IMO, they tend to mute flavors a bit and getting rid of the extra flavor wick will help, though you might need to change coils every day to get some consistency depending on the juice. I have to replace/dry burn coils quite frequently. I usually just replace and rebuild them as it's easy to rebuild several at the same time.

Vaping isn't easier than smoking. It does take daily maintenance to keep equipment running at it's best. Going to cartos or rebuildables, you'll still have to do regular maintenance.

Other than providing accurate, stable, reliable power, ProVari don't dictate what one's juice in their topper taste like. The bottom caps on the ProTank seemed to be the problem for me. The airflow and draw just wasn't right, so I replaced them with quality aftermarket ones and haven't had any issues since, although I mostly vape from carto tanks now...

I've only ever used Davides, but they are much like Protanks. I concur with the rest, though. The heads get gunked up pretty darn fast. I rebuild mine and have saved a ton of money doing so, but depending on the juice, I have to change the head once every couple of days. One of my juices requires a daily change to keep the flavor and vapor production.

If you don't mind fiddling and are money conscious like me, do yourself a favor and learn to rebuild your coils. It is SO easy and you can tailor them to your specific taste. I don't even buy new ones at all anymore and I don't clean or dry burn dirty ones. I just pop a rebuilt one on at the first sign of trouble.

It's definitely NOT the Provari, though. I am anxiously awaiting the day that someone invents a clearo that is as dependable as the Provari. It will be a good day.

Thanks for the replies and links. I'm disappointed I've still got so much work to do after spending £250+ right enough.
Don't get discouraged! You totally changed technology, so there will be a learning curve regardless of how much you spent. You made the right decision going with the most reliable VV device. Now you just have to get the rest sorted.
And absolute worst case scenario, if you do decide that *gasp* the Provari is not for you (hey, it happens), you should be able to sell it for what you've got in it.....they don't depreciate like other mods......

Thanks to threads like this on this great forum many of us can find that special "setup" that meets our specific tastes. I am a newbie and I am extremely thankful for this forum. I may have spent some extra money but I have many different things on order to find what will work for me. At first I was thinking I would never want to mess with coils and rebuilds and I still may not like it but I won't know if I don't try. Therefore, I have cartotanks on order, I have the Kayfun Lite Plus (with airflow) on order, and the Prometey and Achilles also on order. I will also probably try a clearomizer as well since that is what I started on and it isn't too bad but I am hoping I can get better than that. Based on what I have read I most certainly should be able to. Best of luck finding that set-up that works for you. I feel so much better being off analogs I certainly would not want to go back.

It is definitely not the Provari, it's the Protanks. I have 3 protank 2's and at first I really liked them. Then they started leaking and flooding and the flavor is just not there anymore. Even when I crank up the volts, still nothing. Then I decided to go back to carto tanks and OMG!!!! They are freaking AMAZING with my Provari!!! I used to defend the protank when people were bashing them but I have lost my faith in them completely. After changing out the coil heads DAILY and still no improvement I finally gave up. I have not been happier!!
Get yourself some IBTanked tanks and you will be a believer again- I promise!!!
