Different states have different laws so that is the first thing to be aware of but my only rule is to be courteous about it. If someone thinks I'm smoking and refuses to accept my explanation than I stick it in my pocket and move on. If I'm in a new place I will ask if it's OK, If I'm in a small group of strangers I'll explain what I'm doing when I take out my PV. If I'm in a crowded place like an airport or mall where people might object I'll stealth vape.

I like mini's and look-a-likes for times when I'm concerned someone might think I'm partaking in alternate substances.

Many of us feel that minis/look-a-likes just continue to confuse the uninformed and make them more strongly believe that vaping is just as bad as smoking. When I vape my Darwin, NO ONE thinks I'm smoking. And I don't want anyone to still think I smoke!! And in my personal experience and from the thousands of posts I have read over the last two years, there have not been one report of vaping being confused with using a "controlled" substance. I think that is just an idea that some have from watching a lot of cop shows. I've talked to many cops about vaping and when I mention some are worried about giving the wrong impression, they have all just laughed at the idea. I wouldn't worry about that.

It is kind of funny in the car, and the wife and I are vaping huge clouds with the windows rolled up, and people are imagining how we're not suffocating in all the "smoke". And in two seconds, everything is gone.

Thanks for the visual...love it!!!

I started vaping right before taking a cross-USA flying trip with a long layover connection...something I've never looked forward to as a semi-heavy smoker since the airlines banned smoking on planes (yes, I remember smoking on planes). I discretely/experimentally vaped in the airports and even stealth vaped on the plane during my trip. Only had to explain to one guy in Atlanta what it was...he showed enough interest that I gave him the website here :) . I vape in my lab at work...both my technicians have been on me to quit smoking and have been very supportive after seeing me go all day without going outside to smoke.

Like everything else in this life, common sense, courtesy and consideration have been my guide as to where vaping in public would or would not be tolerable within reason and they have not failed me; I trust they will serve you equally well!

Well we probably just need to agree to disagree on this one. There was a recent post where someone was shaken down by the police who was using a mod at the time. Wanna guess what they thought he was smoking? Try going to a website that sells vaporizers to pot smokers and tell me how many of these devises look just like some of the mods we use. I currently have one of the mini analog look-a-likes and when I am using it in public anyone within 25 ft. of me quickly realizes I am not smoking a cigarette and ask me about my pv serving to further educate the public on their use and utility. Anyone further than that isn't too concerned about whether or not I'm smoking as long as I am somewhere that allows smoking because they are not close enough to be bothered even if it was an analog.

So my preference when in a place that allows smoking is to use a devise where those close enough can tell it isn't a real analog and those far enough away assume I'm smoking as opposed to partaking in the inhalation of a controlled substance which could result in my good time being interrupted by having to explain to the police that it's just a pv for nicotine. But then again we probably line in and frequent different places so I'm sure our needs will differ.

Yeah I have pets as well so it was a huge No No in my house too. Especially since it's an analog and it just STINKS right!? ;) So far here in Ca. I've vaped in a couple places without people flipping out and a couple places that have pretty much looked at me like I was smoking something else other then what they thought was tobacco if ya know what I mean...My work is ok with it in the breakroom along with a couple gas station's/ local stores I go to frequently.

I had a lady stare me down outside of the supermarket while I was sitting in my car puffing away for a good 5 min's. She was sitting straight across from me in her car and would NOT look away. haha. I thought she was going to call the cops for a sec. I'm actually waiting for the day a truck driver calls California Highway Patrol for assuming I'm lighting up narcotics and I'm an hour late to work explaining to the officer what I'm REALLY doing... Not looking forward to that one!

I haven't tried it in restaurants only because IMO I think it's rude to do it while people are eating who have to make an assumption if it's real or not. Just a personal outlook though. Good luck on your Where can I Vape travels.

LOL...no weird looks in the parking lot or anything.... I drive a decent amount though...and chain vape while doing so, and I figure Im bound to get hit by CHP one of these days.... think Im smokin somethin weird or somethin.... good thing my truck windows are real dark.

Because it ISN'T illegal narcotics, when I'm in my car, I vape away, all cool and collected, because I figure if onlookers think it looks sketchy, the only thing that looks sketchier is me ducking and taking incognito hits. Besides, if they pull you over, you test positive for what, nicotine? (unless there is anything to hide, in which case, a device that grabs hold of their suspicions probably isn't a good idea...) I always figure, if I'm out, obvious, and by all appearances oblivious to the fact that it is a new-fangled electronic cigarette, I'm changing the world's perception, one person at a time, making them think, "oh! well isn't that nifty... and you don't even smell!"

I make gelato in the back room of my coffee shop, and I vape away back there, worry free. My boss came in my first day with my new PV, and said I was working so hard, why don't I relax and take a smoke break? I replied, "don't have to!", brought it out of my apron pocket, and took a puff. He said nothing but "good for me", and I'll take that as a GO.

In places where smoking is discouraged, i try not to be the showy-offy loophole finder, and (nonchalantly as possible) grab a few short hits, holding the light-up end, and sucking as though it were a pen, holding the vapor in, and letting it out slowly so there's no visible exhale, since that seems to be the biggest freak-out for people. I kinda get why people complain at indoor restaurants and stuff, but since they obviously can't smell anything, and they see no fire, makes you wonder what bothered them about analog cigarettes in the first place... am i right? I also fiddle with it in my hand or throw it in my pocket, making it obvious it isn't a cigarette, or at school have it sit on my desk so nosy folks can inspect from their seat at their leisure, also hopefully making it a more commonplace item to see around.

I did finally enjoy a symphony concert with my mom last weekend, without nic fits stealing any amount of joy I might have had those two and a half hours. (She's a cancer survivor too, so needing to smoke always made me feel guilty, but car rides are a dream, now. She thought it was cool, and asked all about it) I just held it in my hand, sneaking puffs, and witholding exhaled vapor. Didn't get a single look. I think they probably just thought I was playing around with a pen, as I had homework on my lap, but still... One step at a time, and the public may soon understand.

You are absolutely right there is nothing they can arrest you for or at least charge you for. Hey I am glad it works for you and you have had so much success I am just trying to raise awareness to a possible issue. You see there is no roadside test for pot. What if you get a hard case cop who refuses to believe you? He will confiscate your pv so it can be sent to a lab for testing. In the meantime he can also choose to detain you for further questioning. Been there and done that and have no desire to have my day fraked like that again. In my case it happened years ago with a unfiltered roll your own.

But like I said before everyone's situation is different. I happen to have long hair and can often be found in jeans and a tie-dye which in some jurisdictions in the US is considered probable cause. Here in Belize the police can detain you and hold you in a cell for 3 days without a shred of real evidence. The cell is a 10 x 12 room with no seat mattress or even a toilet. Just a gutter near a wall and probably 5 other people in there with you. So if I sound overly cautious in this regard it's because I am and with reason. In other parts of the world it is even worse.

there's still an awful lot of uninformed out there when it comes to pv's...that includes the officers out there trying to keep order and protect.... there are quite a few states that are trying to pass laws banning the use of e-cigs, some countries or areas already have...regardless of our situations and our rights, we all need to learn/show discretion anyways...there will always be someone that's ignorant about whatever and will take offense to it. in example, the police could pull you over, stop you walking down the street, etc for 'vaping' if they don't know the difference... that alone wouldnt be fun having to deal with regardless if it is legal or not... remember, not everyone is savvy to vaping, including the authorities, to most it's still unknown or they just heard about it on the news or from a friend, etc...

I am in and out of every major courthouse in GA. I vape in everyone of them. I have demonstrated my Darwin to many sheriffs and state police in these court houses. The only questions I get is, "Can you tell me where I can get a good one?"

I cannot speak about other countries and I'm sure if I was in a foreign country I would be much more cautious. I'm also not saying that it's not possible to run into that one axxhole cop who just wants to hassle someone. But I believe you got about a 95% chance of never having a problem.

But the more we vape PV's that look like cigarettes and the more we ACT like we are smoking (vape only with smokers) the more the general public will believe that vaping is exactly the same as smoking and is just as dangerous. If people who vape do not strive to change the perception of vaping as being the same as smoking, then it will only get worse, not better.

I gotta say that vaping in your hotel room is fine. No one would ever know even if it is a non-smoking room. I do vape in non-smoking buildings, but won't if there's a crowd around. I've found out that some people hate smoking so much, just seeing that cloud of vapor set them off. I think if people keep getting outraged about vaping in smoke free buildings, vaping itself will be banned.

Sometimes it just comes down to where you are. There are not many places I can't smoke in Belize so for the most part vaping is not an issue and I have had many, many people come up and ask me what my look-a-like is partly because even though it looks like a cig I don't smoke it like a cig and they can immediately tell it's different and ask about it. I don't try to pretend I'm smoking at all.

As far as vaping only in places where I can smoke - well in NJ that is the only option as e-cigs are banned everywhere smoking is meaning any indoors public place. What I find really interesting about this though is there seems to be an unwritten exception for the mall kiosks as I was able to freely vape a sample in the mall. I'm sure it's only a matter of time though before someone else figures it out and shuts them down.

Personally I just try to stealth vape. But openly doing it at work in a PD and only get questions about how it works. No one's questioned use in this public building, despite the ban on smoking in a public building (or inside any building for that matter!) in Illinois. Maybe all the cops are just more tolerant of different things than the rest of the public.............lol

Do you vape in bars and restaurants? At work? Where do you vape that you wouldn't smoke otherwise?

I vape everywhere. I don’t make a show of it. If asked I explain what it is and is not. I am courteous in that I don’t blow vapor in anyone’s direction. Except for one time, I’ve not had anyone ask me not to vape.
