New York Senate Health Cmte amends bill (S 7027) to ban the sale of all e-liquid products unless they include a warning label (same as proposed by FDA) claiming e-liquid is derived from tobacco (to demonize the products) and is addictive (despite no evidence any nonsmoker has ever become dependent on e-liquid), and unless e-liquid bottles contain a child proof cap (that can leak, and despite no evidence any child has ever been harmed by e-liquid).
S7027A-2013 - NY Senate Open Legislation - Prohibits the sale of liquid nicotine to minors - New York State Senate

S 7027 would also ban e-liquid sales to minors (because Linda Rosenthal’s 2012 bill that banned e-cig sales to minors didn’t include e-liquid because she knew very little about e-cigs except how to demonize and lobby to ban them)

I suspect that the NY Assembly Health Cmte will amend Rosenthal's bill (A 9299) so it is once again the same as S 7027.

New York State lawmakers debate e-cig bills
New York state lawmakers start debate over e-cigarettes - Albany Business Review

A list of new laws seeking to rein in e-cigarettes will be debated this week. The talks begin during the Health Committee meeting scheduled for noon today at the Capitol Building in Albany.

Among the proposals is a law that would better define an e-cigarette, a term generally used to describe several devices that produce a "vapor" from a mix of liquids.

Other laws being considered this week include one banning e-cigarettes from public places, under a move that already proved effective in curbing use of traditional cigarettes. A public hearing on the potential ban is set for Monday, May 12 at the Legislative Office Building in Albany, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Those of us in New York on this forum need to be very concerned about these bills. Im contacting all my reps and I will tell them that I will vote them out in the next election and actively campaign for their removal from office should they vote yes on any of these bills. As far as.I am concerned the time to be polite and "ask" them to vote no... is over.

I wish you guys the best on defeating this. Nate is correct on this making California look rather tame. You guys are in serious trouble. For those in NY state, I hope you read this part of Bill's last link to CASAA.

"FIRST, It is IMPERATIVE that you act NOW by contacting your state Senator to express your opposition to these bills. You can find your senator by using New York State Senator ('Find My Senator'). Ask your senator to OPPOSE any bills that (1) would ban sales of electronic cigarette liquid to adults, (2) enact punitive sin taxes on e-cigarette products, (3) impose labeling and packaging requirements that would make it difficult for products to be sold in the state and therefore reduce your access to products, or (4) ban usage where smoking is banned. (More detailed talking points are included in the Call to Action below.)

"SECOND, a public hearing on SB 6562 is scheduled for MONDAY, May 12th at 10:00 a.m. (Legislative Office Building in Albany). Oral testimony is by invitation only. Please make your views known BEFORE this hearing."

Now isn't that convenient, a controlled public meeting.

Someone from my Senators office called Friday in response to my email. He wants more info and he said his office wasnt even aware of these potential bills....

Im really shocked by the lack of activity in this thread.

I'd be more shocked about the lack of "awareness" in your state Senate.

That was a total disaster. I haven't seen so much mis-information in my life besides going to the onion.

Can you elaborate?

Of course I wasn't expecting much positive news about this given their "invitation" policy: "Oral testimony is by invitation only. Please make your views known BEFORE this hearing." Was anyone allowed to speak in favor of vaping?

Wow. Talk about cherry picking the folks permitted to testify. It seems nobody was invited to present any scientific evidence concerning harm reduction from vaping or even any recent scientific studies on vaping. Just the same old stuff - including the recent Times article on formaldehyde (which I believe Dr. Farsalinos has already addressed). Oddly enough, the only 2 "pro-vaping" presenters were from the Empire State Tavern and Restaurant Association and the NY Association of Consumer Stores. Both noted that the evidence is still out as to whether e-cigarettes/vapor are as harmful as tobacco smoke and both urged that the state defer to the FDA on the matter and/or wait for further studies on e-cigarettes.
